In regards to OP ,
We have all been there one time or another where we didn't take the time to properly read change X or Y and we all had a bad taste of that one day or the other. However some of us are aware of our verry own mistakes in that process and don't try to lay blaim with others.
The announcement has been as clear as a shining star for a verry verry long time by CCP.Just swallow it up like a man and move on , in eve 40 days extra is nothing so it won't hurt THAT much.

Wasn't free, I had to invest time, skill points, and in the case of 2 of my characters Isk into a widely publicised, often discussed, change in the game in order to maximise my skill points gain from it.
Now I'm reaping the rewards of my investment by having more expensive clones, and the exact same ships I could fly, no matter how badly, before the change.

We are NOT further ahead , we are at the exact same spot in regards to what we can fly.We did not get any new skills or any shipupgrades .
We ARE further in regard to clonecost. The only time this extra SP MIGHT have a benefit is when i was to sell my character and as such could appraise it for a slightly higher price because of the extra SP.A higher price wich then would pay back for that more expensive clone cost when Lucky .... Yes, but you got more SP total after the expansion than you would have been able to gain naturally. So, you got free SP compared to the general population. Not really much of an argument here.

To get to the same place you are now, a new player will have to invest more SP than you did.
So you are further ahead now than you were before the expansion.

Fixed that for you
Quote: So, yes, it is. Feee SP. With zero change in ability to fly ships. You're still hung up on SP having value. They don't. Before Odyssey, I had "X" number of skillpoints. After Odyssey, I had "X+Y" skill points - And could do nothing I wasn't previously able to do. The SP made NO change to my abilities.
No new ships. No new modules. No new industrial capacity. No changes to my ability to lead a fleet, or run a corporation. NOTHING changed in what I could do in game.
This is what the people frothing-on about SP are absolutely failing to understand.
NOW: If I had failed to follow the published roadmap - If I had felt something was more important than the BC changes, I could have chosen to not train those skills - And would find myself today without the ability to fly ships I *couldn't* fly before. Amazing, eh? Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

Right, fine. Keep repeating that if you want. Not sure why, though. It's not relevant.
Quote:Before Odyssey, I had "X" number of skillpoints. After Odyssey, I had "X+Y" skill points - And could do nothing I wasn't previously able to do. The SP made NO change to my abilities.
Yes, but relative to a newbie, you have more skill points after the expansion than you did before, and it will take them more SP after to catch up than it did before.
So you got free SP.
That free SP didn't give you any new skills, but you got free SP nonetheless.
You can't argue otherwise.
Quote:You're still hung up on SP having value. They don't.
The Character Bazaar begs to differ.
The Character Bazaar value proposition is "How long would it take me to achieve the same abilities from a fresh start?" and the answer before the expansion was less SP than that answer now. Therefore your character is worth more now relative to a new character than it was before.
Quote:No new ships. No new modules. No new industrial capacity. No changes to my ability to lead a fleet, or run a corporation. NOTHING changed in what I could do in game.
I know, dude. I know. You don't have to go into detail about it. Who are you even arguing with? I never suggested otherwise. Nobody in this thread has.
Quote:This is what the people frothing-on about SP are absolutely failing to understand.
You are the only one I see frothing, mate.
You got some free SP. I'm not mad about it. It's okay, really. You deserved it for planning ahead. Everyone did. Everyone had plenty of time to qualify for the free SP, and those who got it deserved every point and those who had a chance to get them but didn't deserve what they got to.
But what value is there in arguing that you didn't get free SP? You did. You said it yourself. Before you had X. Now you have X+Y.
Did you train for Y?
No?
Then Y was free.

Nope, my reasoning? I made an investment. Time is an opportunity cost, it's a limited resource, and that the choices were to invest 4 months total into bringing 3 characters up to speed or to invest the same amount of time doing support skills and cross training. I've paid for those skill points, albeit at a discounted rate, and that rate was offered to everybody.
I'm now doing the support skills on this character so that I can actually use all the ships I can fly effectively.
Quote: To get to the same place you are now, a new player will have to invest more SP than you did.

Basic math.
For a newbie to get where flakeys is they'll have to invest more than just SP.
SP is just a number, it doesn't matter, every ship and weapon class has a skill cap, 90% of my SP is wasted when I fly a frigate, so a newbie with a few months under their belt is on a fairly even footing with me, if it's a newbie with PvP experience, I'm dead because I'm a bit of a carebear. You can have eleventybillion SP and still suck, because 2 million SP and a good knowledge of how the game works is more than a match for someone who has no clue.
Newbies are also in a lot better position now than they have been at any time in the past, the NPE is loads better, they get better default attributes and the ships they have access to are considerably better than they were in the not so distant past. They don't have the learning skills either, lucky bastards.

You do keep bring this up - As noted, it's pointless. Why do you care?
As for the character bazaar, using SP there is pretty much pointless, too - except that folks have bought into the hype of SP. It is, at best, a badly-flawed approximation of character ability. More often it's irrelevent. At worst, utterly misleading. If I were in the market for a new character, I don't want to know SP - I want to know skill trees. What can that character do..?
Noobs have to train more..? Oh noes! They have to climb the ladders that this four+ year old character has already climbed - Even though some of the new ladders are shorter! How ever will they survive?
When you consider that the queues to many various specific ships are actually shorter now, I think those noobs owe *me.* Not really. Don't actually *care* how long it takes them to get to point A or option B in the game - Within broad ranges, player skill matters far more than anything else. I've faced off with n00bs who have given me a dangerous run for my money - 'cause they were good. Not 'cause they had high SP. Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

All you needed to do was pay attention to the headlines in the character selection screen.
If you were driving a car and drove through a "STOP" sign only to run under a truck, would you demand compensation from the truck driver? Or would you realise that you should have paid attention to the "STOP" sign and stopped in order to evaluate the safety of the intersection before attempting to traverse it?
Shadowyfreak wrote:Now I had those skills to level 4 - with only a short time to train them up.
The notices on the character selection page gave you three months advance notice of the change. If you played the game, how did you not know about the impending skill change? Sure, those who read the forums and follow the blogs had 12 months notice, but 3 months was enough to train the necessary skills.
Just remember to read the headlines in the future and figure out for yourself if they apply to you. Don't habitually ignore the messages CCP is trying to get out to you.

Other than being fascinated with the semantic acrobatics you insist upon, I don't care. I started too late to do anything about the change, so I have no stake in the matter one way or the other. It just seemed silly and pedantic of you to insist that it didn't constitute "free" SP when, in fact, that's exactly what it was. CCP made a change to skill training and had two choices: 1) require existing players to train the new skills in order to use the ships, or 2) give them free SP in order to bring them up to speed to their current capabilities.
They chose option 2, which is the clearly superior. They communicated it clearly, published it early enough, and gave everyone in the game a chance to qualify for the SP boost. Fair warning. All is good. No complaints.
But just because I don't "care" doesn't mean you can just change the meanings of words. You received free SP. Period.
You had X, now you have X+Y and you didn't have to train for Y. I don't need to get a dictionary to tell me that's free.
I invite you to find an example of a character with more than 1M fewer skill points than another selling for more ISK. It doesn't matter if the system is imperfect; it's the one they use. Just because you don't feel SP is a fair measure of a character's value doesn't make it so. It is the indicator of value.
SP is usually one of the two pieces of information included in Character Bazaar posts, and is the single most accurate indicator of that player's ISK value. You and I have different definitions of "irrelevant" because when I think of it I don't think "Always relevant enough to be included in every single Character Bazaar post ever in the history of the forum."
I mean, seriously?
Why are you even continuing with this charade? All to distract from the singular point that you tried to say you didn't get free SP when that is in fact exactly what happened.
Just fuckin go "Yeah, it was free SP but it's not a big deal and everyone had plenty of time to qualify" and I would be like "Yeah, I agree," and life would go on as if nothing happened.
I don't understand why this is even an argument, let alone how you managed to make it go on this long.
Quote:Noobs have to train more..? Oh noes!

Let me be really clear for you, Francis. I have absolutely no problem with what happened. It was communicated clearly and executed in a fashion that was free and fair for everyone in the game. I wouldn't have expected them to handle it any other way.
Got that?
But, that doesn't mean the SP wasn't free.
Who exactly are you rolling your eyes at here?
Nobody is making the argument you are rebutting. You are arguing with a fantasy that you invented.

The legend of the Jita sieges have proven that.
But if no-one makes a stand then it is our own faults for allowing it to happen. In EVE you have to fight for what you want.
I like playing eve - especially since I have started playing incursions, but If CCP does not want customer satisfaction and $180 a year of my money (plus plex purchases I make with real money), for a simple database entry, then so be it.
I am just as happy to pay the same $500 a year into World of Tanks or the up coming World of Warships mmo, or even better, I am happy give the money away to my WolfPack members.
Being a wealthy person, I have those options and I am selecting to exercise that option: keep me satisfied as a customer or im leaving.
I am not trying to be rude, but think about it like this, World of Warcraft did the same thing to its customers, did not respect them and now they are losing millions of players, I hope CCP does not do the same thing.
The crux of the matter is this - I am not asking for anything extra ordinary, or demanding extra special circumstances, I am asking for CCP to fill the agreement that was in place - and the agreement was "destroyer and battlecruiser skills for x days"
The EvE Community has the say in how EvE is run CCP listen to the majority of players not a single player.
I was playing WoT and that game sucks now these days.
I have been playing EvE Online for nearly seven years and seen allot of changes which were good and bad.
Also CCP makes mistakes from time to time but thats life.
We all have to take the good with that bad & the bad with the good.
I like the EvE community and we all have to respect the works of the devs and of the EvE community for the Input to make EvE a Great Game as it is. I am not a CCP employee-ájust having a say in the world of EvE Online

New players are in better situation now compared to older players. For example, they don't have to train to fly logis before they can sit in fleet command ship. I mean that requirement was logical and all that stuff, right?
