Well I didn't start stealing yet since RMR, I expect all miners to be triggerhappy, and expecting us. So I'm gonna wait a few days for them not to be as alert (do a few missions etc.) then I'll start testing the new techniques. The main thing bugging me is that we can't even shoot back in a hauler. Maybe it's time for a new thief's ship...
But anyways I'm making a call to all professional ore thieves to unite, maybe merge some corps, or make a thieves guild. It's time for us to be strong, answer back, and get back our territories. May all thieves, contrabanders, and people who work on the medium and dark dark side contact me by mail, at least to know who is seriously in the business. I will keep anonymous the identities of those who wish to remain secret, of course... And there will be a spy filtering mechanism

PLEASE DEAR GOD ALL ORE THIEVES BAND TOGETHER NOW!
I can see it now, hundreds of month old morons who's greatest accomplishment is "badger MkII" all gathering together into one corp so that they will be all the easier to hunt down and annihilate to the last man, woman, and sniveling little sack of [colorful metaphor] as just revenge for all the thieving your sleaziness has done over the years.
I'm already all to happy to lye in wait for your stupid kind to saunter up like you own the place, nose into my can, take some ore and just then realize that itÆs a very small amount and LOCK BOOM! A full salvo of justice laden hellfire delivered personally by a person thatÆs never been stolen from but IÆd be all too happy to set a trap for your worthless behind.
I strongly encourage players setting up mining operations to have a heavy hitter among their ranks with a web and scrambler/disruptor (if for some reason they are in a transport and you need to sit and pummel them for a little while). Have that person drop your jettison cans for you and just donÆt gang them (not ganging explained in a minute). Now whenever a flying pustule decides he wants some of the groupsÆ ore, heÆll get the unfortunate shock that one of the battleship miners isnÆt a miner! LOCK BOOM.
Now I bet youÆre wondering why you wouldnÆt gang this friend seeding your cans and killing your thieves? Simple, to prevent the thieves from baiting you like you baited them, your ganged members had nothing to do with the complete hide tanning of the worthless thief, so no retaliation is possible without CONCORD acting as a mediator (read as vaporizes any moron suicidal enough to attack an innocent gang). Meanwhile, if some sort of retaliation is to come from the nuking of the ore thief, it having been a totally legal kill, the ganker friend can just run back to base and dock safely till the heat dies down and no revenge from the thieves friends can be sought (as if thieves have friends).
Once the timer for any possible retaliation is passed, then itÆs back again to full power of ganking thieves.
Now the running to base to hide for a bit is HIGHLY unlikely to be a necessity as most thieves arenÆt in a player corp anyway or they would have a wave of war declarations and the following annihilation, also, having non-ganged friends may be enticing enough for one of the thieves idiot friends to take a shot at, and CONCORD would again explain to them what they did wrongà with laser beams, and explosions, and the hurting, and not so nice feelings in the rump.

What's the big deal? I'm not a theif, but I think it's cool that someone is the bad guy. Gives more cannon fodder for the bounty hunters to find. EVE's a dangerous world. I think having a theif guild is realistic.

Just get 3-4 guys a few thousand metres away from you and have them cloak. Scum pops into belt, see's hauler and barges thinking he has time to grab before backup comes, then un-cloak, jam and lock.

Edited by: Olenir Theadorvin on 16/12/2005 18:38:32 I am not an Ore thief. I am not a pirate. Nor do I buy, sell, or haul contraband.
However, what is good about this game is that you can be those things. But you have to face the consequences of it going wrong. Up till now, there has been consequences for being caught by empire authorities carrying contraband items. There has been consequences for being a pirate (Though not quite enough. The new rules saying we're allowed revenge is better). There has, until now been no consequences for being an ore thief (that can lawfully be taken).
Adding those consequences has to only be a good thing. It makes the game more fun for everybody (except those that aren't grown up enough to accept the consequences of thier actions).
And having a thieve's guild is a viable idea I think. I, naturally won't be a part of it, but I should think some ore thieves could and probably shall band together for mutual protection, higher profits, and more organised crime. As long as they can take the risk being declared war on and shot on sight by many corparations in EVE that is .
After all, EVE has how many pirate corps (also operating "outside of the law"), and assassins corps (some of which are reputable "bounty hunters", others are not and are hired to assasinate those that CONCORD won't let you put a bounty on. What's wrong with the thieve's getting organised as well?
*EDIT: remember 'i' before 'e' except after 'c' -- Olenir Theadorvin, Director, Cygnus United. Views expressed within the forum do not necessarily represent those of the corporation. They certainly do not represent the views of a sane man |

I'd be entertained by this. Stealth bombers would make excellent mining-op guards, 2-3 of them sitting around a belt, and as soon as a thief becomes a valid target, they decloak, and drop a half dozen cruise missiles on the hauler. That'd probably handle almost any hauler trying to steal your ores. Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the oth |

Maybe some time ore thiefs will do the same When there are lots of wars going on with ore thiefs, then there will be pepole who join those thiefs just for the fun of pvp. And there might be people joining who can fly stealth bombers.
But several frigs will also do the job.

Errr uhhhh, nothing to see here carry on with your incredibly stupid, errr, sneaky (yeah that's a good word they'd like) plan to centralize ore theft.
no one here has ANY plans of ANY kind to get in your way of making a singular target, err corporation (yeah that's what I meant, really ), in fact, I'd think many here would be all too happy to help you fund the founding of such a corporation. Not for personal motivations I assure you, but because they are such benevolent souls as to want nothing more than to help their fellow man in such an endeavor as making a ore thief corporation.

You don't have to concentrate very much on constant playing while doing it. You can have breaks when you wish etc.

It doesn't sound a lot most likely to many people but consider this: 1. It's entertainment too. 2. It doesn't require a battleship or a lot of trained skills. Even a newbie can do those 20 millions on his first playing week 3. It's very relaxed stuff.

takes a look at being an ore theif from the macro miners and then them a) taking my stuff and counter attack or b) they attack me with thier pathetic setup then get toasted roasted nad BBQ'ed. Does that make me bad for removing them from the game ? they arent real game players anyway
As for ore theives well battleships might soon become a weapon of choice for ore theifing. I can also see this happening in low sec pirate drops some cans near the gate cloaks in his BC or BS - newbie comes along sees the cans doesnt thing to check local to see pirate. Takes can pirate uncloaks boom one dead traveller without sentry guns.

Hi, new to this game, been playin for less than a week. Just a couple of passive observations here. Firstly if this pirating was so wrong then wouldn't the gm's just disable other player's from picking up cans that don't belong to them? And secondly surely if this game was ...find rock...mine rock... take minerals home..repeat...wouldnt that be pointless and boring? C'mon you guys are lovin this, and although i havent even thought about thinking about being a miner, fighter, pirate or even belly dancer yet, this whole situation in space seems realistic enough! This main reasons i decided to play this game, was because of this kind of realism!

The reason is that some people just love shouting that everything they dislike is BAD and should be banned. There is no rule against pirating or stealing. Never will be. The Eve Online game was designed so that you are allowed to play play versus player too.
In fact if you don't want to get anything stolen from you it's dead simple to stop it from happening and always has been. However some people just love shouting about their close minded views very hard.

Luckly since I'm human i get to be wrong every once and a while. And I believe when i refered to the can flagging not being implamented it was always in the context of the thief never getting to return fire. But thats beside the point. They might as well left it out in the first place, because the flagging hasnt affected me at all. I stole ore for 6 hours last night and guess how many times i was fired apon......not even once.

Yes thank you and I always did believe ore thiefs were important for Role Playing. Even those who don't want to be role playing, genuinely role play the robbed miner. You should read some of the messages we get, we used to send them to each other in my corp and die of laughter, especially the rudest ones they're the best.
But I would like to point out one thing. All those guys who think they're heroes are actually bragging about how they're able to shoot down a hauler: a big slow defenseless ship that can't fit more than 1 small turret. Way to go guys ! I am really impressed! You are Pvp champions! I wish I could be more like you
Another thing is like the guiding hand social club said. Since I started a few months ago, I always, always have robbed with a main, who's in a Thief corp. Anybody could have declared war on us, and some did (for a week). And no we didn't flea, or hide, or do anything apart from fitting warp core stabilisers to our ships... But I don't know why I even am justifying myself to these goons anyways...

Ore thieving isnt pirating, I know several hardcore players that would take extreme offence at being mentioned in the same sentence as an ore thief.
Pirate by default take the fight to the poor sod thats on the end of there target lock. They fight and then take the loot, if they win.
Ore thieves merely sit in a hauler (if they intend to do the job proper) at the side of a tainer and wait for someone to drop something inside it. Not exactly comparable is it?
Until now they have also had immunity in safe space, something a low sec, bountied pirate does not have. You said your new so fine, you didn't know the difference. I hope you have some idea now.

the post is entitled "message to ore thieves and contrabanders" I believe they should read the post

I can tell you what has been happening so far:
4 or 5 Guys in PVP Srtup Ships. They Get together with a 6th guy in a Small Ceptor/Indy whatever. The guy in a small ship goes into a Belt.. takes little Ore.... (remember/he is in a gang with the other guys). The poor carebear opens fire/or his friends, whatever, the other 5 Guys warp in and WTFpanwzor to the miner and friends. And I know its 100% because I been in those gangs.
CCP! THANK YOU! This is was the best way for me - not being able to do much PVP on my own and w/o Going to 0.0 to kill ALLOT OF SHIPS.
Oh an EDIT here: In my life I never stole ore before today! Because I thought it was silly till now.

Then make a private forum and password it, You can't seriously expect people to not comment on a public forum about a hotly debated topic.. can you!?
Hell ill even host it for you and write the damn software if needed, course ill also have admin password so i can see what your saying
But seriously, your argument for privacy is flawed and you must know it. Post a link to said forums and your far more likely to stand a chance of keeping it on the topic you desire.
Hmmm, making sure there are no spies however will be hard.

Well the "smarter population of eve" is missing a couple of points about "public forums".
Is totaly unable to recognise sarcasm. Oh and seem to be totaly immune to the irony of some little risk averse annoyance complaining about miners that can now if they wish take instant revenge against ore thives.
Which also has risks if its a come on for a ambush. So the one that did not have any real risk pre-RMR is complaining now the playing field.
Ore thives will have built a fair amount of ill will, and now it has consequences. Enjoy em.

New player i presume? Otherwise you would know that you cannot use the AB and MWD at the same time and your "cloaking thingy" is rendered useless the second someone starts to lock you.
And if they do indeed lock and scramble you with those three wasted fittings your one dead duck.

A) Its a game, dont get personal. B) you know the risks before you perform your rightous act of retribution manifested by the appropriate catylst, personifeid in this case by ore theives. They know the risks, you know the risks, its always been there, can flagging isnt gonna change much. Mine in groups and mine into indys, my corp has been plagued with ore theives recently, should stop solo theives but aleast now you know that if a indy comes along its probably an ambush.
Im interested that its miners that kick up the fuss and not mission runners? Dont get me wrong, im an avid miner, and ive been ore theifed many a time, thats why i mine in a group usually. CCP wants to kill off solo players methinks.
Dont forget, the can flagging was there to give you the choice to retalliate, its not mandatory.

Edited by: Thorion Mortisfilius on 17/12/2005 02:19:48 I truly hope people aren't getting as irate as they sound. In-game I'm primarily a miner. I play the miner screaming for vengeance, justice and prone to irrational acts of lunacy when I get robbed. I sacrificed a thorax to Concord guns attacking an ore thief. Was hoping my drones would kill the hauler before Concord got me. lol...I was wrong. Out of game...ore-thieves add flavor to the game. They make a inherently repetitive and mindless act into someting different. The miner comes up with different strategies to keep their ore safe and the thieves counter with strategies of their own. All is done in good fun. Not unlike the thief who came out to my can only to find a single round of a small projectile which I used to make them waste their time and keep guessing when I am actually using a jet-can for ore. There was a light banter between us that I believe was in good fun on both sides and we both went our ways with no disruption to the mutual enjoyment of the game. Likewise I have had ore stolen where I called their persona all kinds of names but never once verbally attacked the person playing. I even had one player compensate me monetarily for the ore she stole because when all was said and done, we both enjoyed the short period of time I tracked her down and locked her. In the end, the ore stolen from me has been less than 1% of my total take and not worth getting worked up over.

The ways of a thief:
Fill you industrail lowslots with stabelisers. Allign to warp out Clean those messy cans Wait to get shot for aggresion Warp/dock. Grab your ultragangstyle ship Fly back and waste the miner and grab his gear as well
.... i think thiefes will become even a more specialised profession...

Yup thats Exactly the Idea, months ago i thought it would be a good idea to flag theifs, and it still might be.. But If my guess is right (once a miner shoots at you for stealing you can return fire without being concorded) then you completely annhilate the poor miner.
One thing would fix the "coming back with a battleship" is making the theif unable to shoot back opon docking/changing ships and warping back to the belt. Or not being allowed to return fire at any point what so ever.
I think CPP will shortly understand how they just made the situation a whole lot worse and nerf the self defence of ore thiefs completely.
^^ I'm going to laugh at the pro ore theifs that b***h there brains out when that happens, and im betting it will. I highly doubt CPP will stand for battleships stealing ore now instead of whatever indy that used to do it.
But hopefully not before i get a ***** at the noobs.

Originally by: beaverbrooks I think CPP will shortly understand how they just made the situation a whole lot worse and nerf the self defence of ore thiefs completely.
What they did was that they forced both sides to start using some tactics instead of just clicking one button for the victory. It made the life of both thieves and victims way more interesting. Both can win, both can lose. Both have always equal chances there. It's very sweet.
I was at first very much against the thought but I have seen now both sides working occasionally in the game. It's very very sweet. Please note that there are some side effects. They will most likely go mostly away when the people learn about the new rules. All kinds of madness is possible for a while before that happens. Later it'll get saner.
But nerf the self defence of ore thiefs completely? That's one of the lamest thoughts I have heard in a while. It would allow some lame skilless sobs keep pressing one button for victory all over and over again if the thieving was really removed. The new system forces miners to get into packs and stop mining in some uber-lame 1.0 systems. So, it drives people forward wether they like it or not. And that's good.
Also once more I see some people are making the delusional false assumption that there is something inherently wrong in thievery. There isn't. It's what happens in real life and in the game too. You always could have protected against it extremely well and now are able too. Quote honestly it has taken a complete retard to get your stuff stolen
What next? You call all that shooting at other player ships too just wrong because omg they can lose their ships? Hey, let's remove all the weapons from the ships so that no one gets hurt. Pfft. That's just plain lame.

I just want to repeat... Yeah I believe thieves were doing good to the game, and adding just a little challenge for miners who always mine in 1.0 without taking any risks and creating lag etc.
Yeah I believe it's unfair to shoot a guy in hauler who can't fight back. And in real life if you kill a thief for stealing your wallet you go to jail.
Yeah I'd rather you say: "we the pvpers who have been playing for several years and who can only be killed by pvpers playing several years, want EVE to be only a pvp game and when we loose our ships we want to be able to afk mine with an alt in 1.0 space."
The result of this flagging is: bringing back pvpers to 1.0 which is already saturated and laggy, rendering useless team mining (hauler+miner), rendering useless secure containers for miners (watch the prices fall), and rendering more usefull mining in a BC or BS...
And my decision now, is to (with a little skill training) trap miners in a horrible evil way I would have never done before. Us thieves are going to become monsters
