I have recently learned through my confidential source of a plot by EA games and Sony Online. Now since I don't want to risk my source, everyone must raise their right hand, and promise not to tell anyone. Did everyone do that? Good.
Due to the alarming increase in subscriptions to Eve, and their own dissapointing bottom line, the two giants have established a red phone. This phone is used to discuss ideas that will bring CCP to its knees.
Over the past few months these companies have started new accounts, and posted on the forums. The instructions to these infiltrators is to start as many whine threads as possible. They are to complain of all manner of things, and fan the flames of discontent. They were instructed to go all out on patch day. In this way, any prospective players will be discouraged away.
It was only at great personal risk to my source that I learned this information. God willing, that person will survive long enough for the counter agents to do their work. Wish them luck, and send them your prayers.

Sony operatives are closing in on your location even as we speak.
Actually, you may as well sit down and enjoy the time you have left.

It is funny and in good taste. I too believe whingers are rarely constructive and often disruptive on the forums

eh, I'd like to point out, that no amount of ranting/flaming here will "bring CCP to its knees". It is just nice to do something in the forums, while you can't play. Its got all those EVE-related pics and all.

EVE gets a massive population increase as SOE releases a patch that completely breaks SWG and drives thousands of players to quit. coincidence?

Im sorry but "Sony" and "plan"? No way do those two words ever go together :)
You seen the news on joystiq (not original source) from SOE's main guy? They are going to take down WoW apparently. He has obviously forgotten all about MO and SWG. And thats not even mentioning rootkits and viral invas.. erm sorry, copy protection. :)

While I haven't had much experience with Sony, other than beta testing SWG... I had loads of experience with EA, when they bought Origin and Westwood, it was with the intent of destroying the competition, nothing more. EA sucks! End of story.
Now back to your regular programing...
BTW CCP, if either of those companies made a bid to you on EVE, you'ld best run like hell, no matter how much the offer was. They want to control the "games" market and will stop at nothing to stop the competition.. Even if it means buying this game and shutting it down a few months later. Earth&Beyond anyone?

Honestly? Don't be an idiot and lay low for a few days. The patch went live YESTERDAY. Yes, the game is probably going to be laggy for the next few days. There will be bugs. Don't act all surprised.

Some time ago I was in an MMO that showed great promise, and was expected to give EQ a jolt. The forums were all 3rd party, and during latter beta and early release some vicious posters appeared. One of the devs told me that investigation showed that most of those posters had never played.

Edited by: MWEI on 17/12/2005 01:13:40 CCP > all other game companies > Microsoft > EA > Sony
CCP has the best customer support, period. Other game publishers have decent support with feedback and such, Microsoft have a habit of giving up on games but at least their games have high production quality. EA just makes tons of game, they care about money, nothing else, EA would abandon a game, shut down their official site, offline a critical patch just because the game is not making money, and they would work on a game expansion when the original game is 50% bugged.
As for Sony? They dont even make games, but from the recent "anti piracy CDs" they just lost themself a lot of customer loyality.

This just in:
In an unothorized effort to get revenge, a contingent of Eve fans have retaliated against Ultima Online. Using an exploit, they have duped 10,000 copies of the "Uber Axe of the Heavens," and dropped them all around Britain bank on every shard. Veteran players are outraged, having recently spent millions for this God mode weapon. The market is turned upside down.
In addition, this same group started several threads on their boards with topics such as: "UO sucks" and "Why can't you do things like Eve."
My source tells me that CCP does not encourage this behavior, and wishes to proceed using their own agents.

I think it is a question of how CCP handles the playerbase and discontent. Patches bring problems and unwanted changes with them, but if the playerbase is heard and issues accounted for in a professional mature manner then I think discontent will remain at a minimum.
It has become very obvious to me that SOE (dont know about EA) is caught in the corperate juggernaught with VERY poor leadership. Its about money and not about quality or professionalism. go look at the Star Wars Galaxy forums and look at how the playerbase is handled. Almost anything is regarded as trolling. Most issues are ignored and censured.
Let people whine. Once they see that CCP takes them seriously, while remaining organized (case in point: the locking of font threads to consolidate comments in a single sticky thread) everybody will calm dowm. All CCP has to do is take care of the problems that arise in a timely manner and everyone will be satisfied if not happy.
There is nothing to fear in death, for no one has come back to complain about it.

hmph. all SOE can destroy is itself. ive got experience with SWG and a less known SOE game planetside. now what do we have there, serious lag, people can "warp" ingame (bad thing in mmofps's), theres unlimited ways to cheat the server to gain all kinds of advantages (or sell your account noone gets from 50 weekly kills to 1k weekly kills in a week!) bad overpowerement issues seeing as of the 3 factions 1 rules close range 1 long and the third cant do anything...its filled with bugs... usual haxes are to buff your guns (if i loot a gun off some1 and empty a clip into his friend where all shots hit at a wounded char then he fires ONCE at a full health char (me) and i die...well...)

Eve have something that SOE dont have:
1. Devs that Listen and do take the players seriously 2. Devs dont force expansions/publishes down the throat of the player mass if theirs a mass outcry on the forums 3. Devs thats not forced out of the company because they protested too much on the producers plans, and supported the playerbase too much.
Well, just some points. But You can easily add dozens more

Forever apearently didn't last very long for EnB. A pity that so many gaming companies today screw over their customers. I'm glad I found EVE and CCP, they are rock solid. The only other gaming company that listen so much to its players and have good contact with them is Paradox Entertainment. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- (\_/) (O.o) (> <) This is Bunny. I dunno..hope theres nothing too this..but it's quite funny..looking at the help channel and the forums earlier tonight...I cringed at the thought of trying the market, trying to undock or even remotly change my skills....but guess what....after 1 hour of being scared...must have been one of the lucky few in LONETREK of all places, since everything worked just fine for me....laggy yes..but no probs...
But then again it's only a CCP patch...;)
Rule nr 1 of CCP patches: Set long skill training and don't logg on for 1+ days....unless only to gloat at the other ones...muhahahaha..
