I suppose the reason they want to remove high sec ice is that it is too safe to mine (although the Gallente goon incursion shows otherwise). Of course, its only in 0.5 space, which presumably is more dangerous than 0.9 space.... but is it really? I propose we blur the lines between what is high sec and low sec.
Rather than removing ice from 0.5, remove Concord from 0.5.
Replace them with Empire navies that respond to acts of aggression - empire navies that will web, and scram with a few frigates- but are none the less escapable (pop a few scramming frigates, and warp out) - the more you fight them, the more it escalates/ the more reinforcements arrive - but evading/escaping them would not require an exploit (unlike concord). In short- it wouldn't necessarily be suicide to commit acts of aggression in 0.5.
Then add the same force to 0.4, except it only webs and doesn't scram. This would provide a bit of a "gradient" between high sec, and low sec.
At the moment, low sec is pretty much all the same security level despite the number: Gate and station guns which are tankable. |

I actually like this concept, as it would make lower security highsec something that people should not traverse unless they are ready to defend themselves (or have significant numbers).
It would encourage the use of 0.4 systems, but with peril. Where the science gets done |

neither idea is good.. high sec is high sec. and removing low end ice from high sec sucks as an idea concidering the pos's it supports in high sec... ice product will not get to the high sec folk unless they prices are out of reach,
Dumb idea. |

Are they removing ice from high-sec? Are they adding ice to wormholes? |

From what I've read, yes, they are planning on removing high sec ice.
I'd prefer they kept the ice where it is, and made "High sec" vs "low sec" less of a binary state, and more of a gradient as the numerical security ratings suggest.
Basically: in 0.5 and 0.4, you encourage hit and run attacks over suicide attacks - by giving aggressors a chance of fleeing with their ship intact (but make it such that standing and fighting for too long is a losing proposition) |

Ice in 0.0 is still too rare and ice in wormholes is too unreliable to be a viable source. Without a steady and reliable supply from Highsec many smaller alliances would be cut off from supply and crumble because the can't maintain their POSes any longer.
And lowsec means gankfest. Only those not caring about their security status take up residence there and take potshots at everyone passing through.
Oh, by the way... Removing CONCORD from 0.5 doesn't mean "blurring the line" in any case. So what if 0.5 means they can't use the scrambler? Doesn't matter. Removing CONCORD effectively turns 0.5 into a Lowsec system.

Why the big push to get people out of highsec? Removing ice from highsec? Are they insane?
What's wrong with wanting to play the game in highsec?
Oh, that's right, not enough victims going into places where they can be roasted by people with nothing better to do..
Sorry, this gets a big thumbs down. Stop picking on highsec players, we pay too (well some of us do.)

No, they are currently not moving ice out of highsec at least this expansion. There was a Dev mention a while back that it was an option/idea, maybe further down the road (read in a couple years). I could be wrong, but it seems more like CCP is currently fixated on Caps, Destroyers, Tier 3 BC (aka Destroyer 2.0), Hybrid boost, and the new worthless PI structures. Thats the only newest things they have worked on at the moment for winter expansion. |

The alternative is simple.
Don't. It's a stupid, economy breaking idea. Six months in the hole... it changes a man. |

This.
Basically your idea means fewer people will visit 0.5s and those systems will become as devoid as life as the rest of lowsec.
Unsub or don't.-á I don't care what your reasons are, and neither does anyone else.-á Just click the button and go away - or don't. |

I'm not trying to pick on high sec players.
I've observed that some people wanted to remove high sec ice, and I've proposed a compromise, where something exists between high sec and low sec.
*an addendum to my idea- even if they warp away, they still get pursued by the empire navies, their only recourse is to wait out a 15 minute timer by docking up (perhaps remove their ability to dock during this timer?), being constantly in warp for 15 min, or leaving the system.
Imagine travelling through a 0.4 system in an expensive BS... some gank BC comes in and gets under your guns- you are going to lose, but not immediately - the Empire navy shows up, and the guy attacking you retreats.
0.4 has been made safer, but still far from safe - it would be a big help if you got a mining fleet with logi support and escorts - if your group is attacked, your escorts can count on Empire navies helping them out.
In 0.5, aside from suicide ganking, you'd face more expensive ships, that intend to retreat. I suppose an alternative is to add the scramming empire navy to 0.4, keep concord in 0.5, and the non scramming empire navy to 0.3. But then the low sec pirates will whine about their playgrounds getting nerfed.
This thread has links to other threads on the issue of high sec ice, a lot of reading: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=18519&p=2 |
