Edited by: Brep on 19/12/2005 03:01:07 I've been playing for two years, and quite simply I never get lag. There have been a mere handful of occasions where I've had trouble undocking, and only once did I get lag whilst doing a mission. Even now I can travel through Oursulaert, and buy/sell off the market, fight NPCs, all without lag. So what gives?
I'm playing from Tasmania, Australia... I'm using a mere 1.5mbit connection that is usually port limited to half that so my fiance can use the internet. I rarely play on the peak time (monday in Aus) but I play when it's still very busy, at about 17,000+ players.
I just don't get why people are having so many issues. All those who complain RARELY state their situation - are they all dial-up users or what? I mean damn, Australia has pretty **** connections and we (me and my buddies) seem to cope just fine without lag. Also, with so many people talking about every element of RMR it suggests there are heaps of people playing fine without lag.
This isn't an attempt to rub it in the face of those who're having troubles - I just want to get a clear picture on the situation. Is it just a small and loud minority? Is it just people on dialup? Are they all exaggerating? Is it just my aussie timezone? or am I in the minority?

im in central euro - 3mbit connection - and i got lag since RMR lag means a few seconds delay in activating modules or warping etc.. dunno about the others or soŚ, definately interesting to hear some ppl dont get any issues at all.
anyway u wont hear me whining in the patch week - that's not a new phenomenon

Read the post. I'm just after some insight as to why some people are screaming bloody murder when others get no or minimal lag.

Lag is system dependant. If you are getting really bad lag, leave the system. I was getting good 5 minute delays in my level 2 mission system, so I traveled about 9 jumps away and the only noticable lag is about a 1 second delay on module activation. Which is no even noticable and has little to no effect one the game. People need to chill out.

At 8PM we get lag in sing laison area if 40 people are in same system. At 4AM i get same lag with only 20 people in the system. I do not know what is causing it. But it mission flying is now almost mission impossible.
But it is normal after a patch and it getting better by the day.

Edited by: xecutey on 19/12/2005 03:32:39 Thats like telling an insomniac (which most people do upon response of someone saying they have insomnia) that "oh, i get to sleep and stay asleep perfectly fine".
Just like that statement does not help an insomniac niether does your thread IMHO.
Or are you trying to show that your xmas tree is bigger than the rest?
Anyway, well done on your lag free experience and lets hope it continues for you into the new year and ours improve.
BTW i'm feeling abit agro today due to lag, which i apologise in advance for my tone in response to your thread.... bad me.
/me slaps my face
nope still annoyed about my lag! argghhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Try see it from my perspective. I'm thrilled with the patch and how the servers are holding up (for me), so it's really confusing that so many others are getting unplayable lag. It's not a pointless thread I'm just trying to get to the bottom of it. It's still the same "oh i get bad lag blah blah" without posting any kind of information. Wheer are you what connection what time do you play ffs.

the only thing i can think is with being in australia you may hit the sweet spot where the UK is Just Waking up out of bed and the USA are all going to bed or vice/versa depending if you play daytime or nightime your time (or something similiar).
I am from the UK but play through the night 9pm till 3am usually, so maybe my lag is due to all the americans being on which has many more users i imagine than the UK.
Maybe if i played daytime in the UK i may not have as much lag due to the USA asleep or at work depending what time i start playing.

We don't all fly agent missions and haul veldspar, some of us have the audacity to fight each other. That's where the lag comes into play, and becomes a major problem, because players can actually be good at fighting back, so timing is everything.

Edited by: Sirial Soulfly on 19/12/2005 04:03:14 Congratulations with your lag free experience,
TBH most lag in eve isnt created by internet connections, eve can be played with dial up even.
Most of the lag people experience is created when ccp's servers are strained and they start to run close to a 99% load, when that happens people see their buttons lighting up 5 seconds after they have pressed them.
Its very hard to believe that you havent ever experienced that but ill take your word for it.

Edited by: Brep on 19/12/2005 04:12:55 xecutey - thanks for the input, all I wanted was a discussion on why some get less lag than others.
Arti K - wrong assumption 4tw.
Sirial Soulfly - I get a consistant delay between activating modules but it's something you get accustomed to. I don't get seconds of delay, that would definately be unplayable. However I don't need half the reaction time to pvp in eve compared to an FPS, or even WoW for that matter (no running around dodging etc). There are only a handful of times where it's been unplayable and it's usually when servers get borked post patch - but it hasn't been the case for me this time.
