If someone takes ore from a jetcan, they get flagged and the owner of the jetcan can attack.
If the thief attacks back, does concord step in?

It would appear not - the thief is entitled to defend himself.

As far as i know if you are attacked by the can owner you are allowed to defend yourself, that's always been the case in 0.5 to 1.0, if you're attacked, you can defend. Eve Fitting Manager |

Nope once you open fire they are free to shoot back.
So if someone in a BS turns up (as happened to me) steals your ore and puts it in a new can...leave it there till they get board and level the system :)

So that pretty much just made a gank fest open season.
That was a really bad idea.

Nothing forces you to open fire. It's all tactics, on both sides. It made things far more interesting. Don't worry, the initial madness will level when the people learn into it.

I've made the following suggestion before, and will make it again:
If a can thief takes from a can he is not authorized to take from (not his own can, and not anyone he is not ganged with), then he is flagged for the can owner to shoot, AND anyone who was ganged with the can owner to shoot.
Furthermore, any jetcans owned by the thief are treated as owned by the owner of the can that was stolen from for the duration of the flagging (this would include pre-existing cans and new cans). This would prevent thieves from forcing folks to flag themselves to get their own stuff back, but would still allow macro users to be wtfpwned (swap cans and then wait for the flag to expire).

if ur an ore thief: 'if you ain't thievin' someone else's ore, you won't have a problem'
if not: 'DOWN WITH THE THIEVES! KILL THEM ALL WHEN THEY GET FLAGGED!'

FYI, an Armageddon with 8 12.5% Cargo Expanders can carry 1200m3 very easily. Strap on the MWD, a couple megapulses, some cap rechargers, and deploy yourself some cans to buy yourself time. Welcome to happy ore theiving in a battleship :). ----------------------------------------------- MAKE THE MACROERS SCREAM |

You *are* flagged to the entire corp. So if there's a BS squad around you might be in trouble.
My question is this:
You steal. Miner's corp-mates (i.e. NOT the miner) shoot you. Can you shoot:
a) Those who open fire on you.
b) Anyone in the gang
c) Anyone in the corp

You can shoot The whole gang... if not .. check if they go red on you ;)

Oh this is potentially sick!
Gang some tough guys in your corp together.
Take an expendable character to steal ore from a relatively powerful group of miners/haulers/what have you. They target and attack you. Your thugs warp in and can attack the miners, becuase their gang attacked you. Variant: Have cloaking thugs, if they need to be in system.
Ooh that's evil!

And your gang gets concodorkken..
If your expendable alt steals from a can.. he gets flagged to the can owner, hs corp and his gang... They blow his ship up and that the end of it.. they don't get flagged to anyone else, so the thugs will not be able to do a thing unless they steal from the miners themselves...
But then the miners only have to play it clever and engage the thugs one ship at a time if the thugs steal their ore as only the thug who they engage can fight back.. the others can only sit there and watch..

Toshiro, you sure? I haven't tried this yet, but I figured it would mark everyone in your gang once they shot at you after you stole the can.
If you are correct, that is much more reasonable and less gank-happy.

Toshiro has the rights of it.
If you take from a can YOU get flagged to the victim at which point the victim AND HIS GANG/CORP can shoot at you.
Your GANG does NOT get criminaly flagged. So if they also engage or use gang assists like remore armour/shield boosters, they are Concord fodder.
In the same vein, if the victims gang attacks the theifs gang, Concord steps in. -- Don't Run. You'll Only Die Tired. |

As has been said before, and guess it needs repeating:
Before RMR, if a thief stole your ore, there was absolutely nothing, nada, zippo, niente, you could do about it.
Now, after RMR, there IS something you can do about it. However, you are under no obligation to do it.
I can easily see why this leads to whining, however I have no clue why it seems to be the MINERS doing the whining.

Because there are two types of ore thieves: 1. The type who hide in the shadows, grab cans and then log on with their mains. 2. The type who are proud of being hated and targeted by noobs. This is merely an opportunity for new heights of villany.
Neither group is likely to complain. On the other hand, carebear miners have years of practice. To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield. |
