With the new can flagging system, the possibility of holding an open combat contest in highsec empire arises. I was thinking of holding a T1 frig combat contest. I would probably start out with a 100k Frig contest (ship + fittings must cost under 100k) tier, possibly adding an any T1 frig and fitting event or more if the participation is there. I was thinking of doing it as a perhaps bi-weekly event held in the Sobaseki-Jita area, starting with a 100k entry fee for the 100k frig contest, so the entire thing is fairly affordable even to new players, winner take all. Do you think such an event would be successful? Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

My corporation woudl be interested in this too. would it be a battle royal, or a ladder system? And what are the possibilities of a team competition?

Initially I would want to start with a single-elimination ladder system in the 100k bracket. I would like to do a team competition eventually but not starting out since in the team competition I would want to allow access to all T1 frigs and fittings. For the arena I would place a triangle of small cans, 50km length on all sides for the 100k bracket, about 175km from a station. The combatants would each start at one corner and the spectators and officials would stay behind the 3rd. I'd also use a blackbird or other EW jamming ship as officiator to ensure no podding of defeated opponents on the field. I've sent an eve-mail to OCmatt so I'll see what he has in mind, but i think it would be great if it caught on and could become a regular attraction. I'd love to open a gambling operation in conjunction with the games! So, let me know what you think! ~AnnaB |

A bit off-topic, however, since I can't find a messege system on the forums... By chance did you play on a Star Wars mud called Legend of the Jedi, and know someone named Orion/Vazzo or something like that?

yah this sounds like a fantastic idea , ispecialy the 100k idea keeps the compatition nice and even for noob and long term players, you could even do a rough spec the ships must abide by , so one one in particular has a majour advantage over others

I've decided to try and host the first Jita-Sobaseki FrigFrag in the Jita system at 1900 Eve time on Saturday January 7th. I'll be out of town until the new year so I won't be able to be contacted in-game until then but I will check these forums.
This first contest is going to be of the 100k frigate battle variety (ship + fittings must cost less than 100k). The format will be a 1v1 single-elimination ladder/bracket system (winners move on to the next round etc.). The winner of each match is the person who first destroys their opponent's ship. No podding will be allowed. Pairing will be assigned randomly in each round. Entry will be 100k ISK and all fees will go into the winner's cup. If at least 8 people show up for the event I'll make sure that the winner's cup is at least 2 million ISK. If any person or corp wishes to add to the prize pool, the more the merrier. I'll create a new thread here and begin advertising in game with more details when I get back at the beginning of January.
As for help with the event I'll need at least two other people if anyone wants to volunteer. I'll need at least one person, maybe two, to be qualification judge and scan ships to ensure compliance with contest entry rules and I'll also need someone with decent typing skills to be official announcer for the matches.
If anyone has any comments, questions, whatever about the event please post them. ~AnnaB |

Hi I'm the EO noob that you guys are hoping will get into the contest.
Could someone shoot me a jump path to Jita in-game? I'm still stuck in Amarr secspace and haven't had a chance to skirt around the universe yet.
Much appreciation in advance. Manticore

Also, im kinda shakey on it being hosted in jita, that place is lagged already to hell. But if it shall be there, then ill try to make it. Only through Chaos can there be Order. |

Manticore - using the large map (F10) use the search tab to find the Jita system and set it as your destination. You might also want to check your autopilot settings and remove the avoid lowsec systems option. I know the lowest sec system from Amarr Prime to Jita is 0.5 so the route should be plenty safe. Novu - I'll keep doing the contests as long as people want play in them, so a month, a year, who knows! As for hosting it in Jita, I want it to be in a popular system. I'll stay away from the really busy stations so lag shouldn't be too bad in combat, and having a large number of people in local makes it more fun! ~AnnaB |

Sounds good. However, how does one check the equipment on the ship ? How does one know the item value since the market varies ? Does Ammo/bomb/rockets count toward the limit ? |

Edited by: Uuve Savisaalo on 28/12/2005 04:43:59 I would be interested in participating.
My only question is, would this be a straight-up damage tournament, with no electronic warfare of any sort and ships announced to competitors? I think it'd be much more interesting if, for example, electronic warfare of all sorts was perfectly allowed as it widens the options and possible choices within the budget (unless you'd like an all-kestrel face-off of course :)

I've been rather busy after returning from vacation and haven't had time to finalize plans for a FrigFrag next weekend. However, after reading through the messageboards it seems that there are already several other better organized, better funded, and better supported projects in the works, thus, I am not going to try to set up one of my own. If the other projects fall through or organized low-cost combat tournaments fail to become available in the next month or so I'll probably try again, but until then, good luck to all the other combat tournaments in the works!

Edited by: Johnathan OnassisCrynn on 05/01/2006 16:22:34 Even i would be interested in entering this and i have organised a huge pvp frig tourn like this on a larger scale but this seems very fun!. if anyone is interested in a full scale frig tourn that is catagorised to allow noobs to fight noobs and players of 6 months to verse players of similar age look under events for the thread called 'Open PvP TOURNAMENT, Run by PPE'. it is looking to be good. Back on topic I would love to see something small and frequent run like this good thinking

love to, but I'm not sacrificing -9.7 sec status just to participate in a one-time tournament, though if it is in lowsec, I'm totally up for it ;)

I'm glad to see someone take advantage of the new can flagging thing for duelling. I came to this section of the forums to ask if anyone was going to start organising events based on this rule, so...mission accomplished.
Oh, incidentally, can I suggest that you hold your contest somewhere other than Jita? There's plenty of high sec systems that aren't totally overcrowded and laggy. Oh, and the rules need to be clearly stated for everyone if you don't want CONCORD taking part.
