We all knew that PL and HYDRA would be there or thereabouts come the last weekend but I was wondering which team may have pleasantly surprised you.
Maybe it was an alliance that you think of as terrible at PvP but who performed surprisingly well or maybe it is a team that lost an early match and then did well in the losers bracket?
Personally I was very impressed with CVA as they are lolRPers widely renowned for crappy PvP. However they progressed much further than many would have given credit. Their early loss to a strong RONIN team was a pretty good fight - as was their eventual final defeat to Darkside. - a team that has a strong tournament pedigree.
They did have some at least one walkover match but also beat REVOLUTION (who went on to win 2 more matches in the losers bracket), Circle-of-Two (fresh from defeating Outbreak.), absolutely dunked Transmission Lost (who had previously beaten Nulli Secunda among others) before their final victory over SCUM. (the conquerors of TEST and Sleeper Social Club).
What team (other than the winners) stood out for you? |

Our Waffle team was insane. Previous years saw them shut out of the tourney for various reasons after months of prep, something that an be soul crushing. When they got the nod this year they began to train harder than they ever had before, moving off our forums to their own hosted site, using Waffle admins to ban PL members who happened by their comms during testing...oh and god the testing.
PL tested 3+ hours a day 5 days a week, more if we could stand not killing ourselves and each other, Waffles tested almost as often with annoyingly constant IRC pings for testing ops.
The results were pretty amazing, the commercials and the amazing team spirit this particular group of waffles displayed was nothing short of amazing, including the guy that donated 60b so that they'd have funding for the team. |

Ronin did very well, getting by on balls and avoiding the sentry drone meta. Surpassed my expectations.
Exodus were on the ball with the meta very early on and did very well also but I thought they'd get to final weekend.
CVA played it well, brought some good setups and performed well despite some mistakes in the match vs Darkside it was still entertaining.
Sniggwaffe surprised me also, they got very far on their own backs with limited SP and pilots and fought some great teams to get there. Even coming close to knocking out VoC. I'm sure they will learn from this years experience. |

Exodus was defintivelly the biggest surprise. They were pretty much unknown before the AT Tournement and there they went until the semi finals.
Irony of ironys they meet their end to the shield version of the 3 domis setup while we lost to the same domi setup in the armor version.
When watching the match versus PL, I was extremmely excited to see if they could break the PL Tengu and I know what they felt when they lost the match. It was pretty much the same when our team didn't manage to take down the remaining 18% structure on the DS Dominix.
Very good Job Exodus.

Exodus have done well in previous tournaments, so no surprise there for me, some great pilots in that alliance.
CVA Impressed me immensely, you guys have REALLY come a long way when it comes to tournament PvP.
Also, Agony impressed me (again) with their constant creative thinking, it seems the logic has finally hit your setups and that makes you a really, really impressive team.
Overall, good job everyone and hopefully we'll see u next year o/ |

Exodus should't be a surprise to anybody. They are good. They were good last year, and after watching them the first weekend of this tourney I knew they were contenders.

Indeed after the 1st weekend I saw that they had a very strong team, but when looking at the initial schedule never came to my thought Exodus being in the "favorites". |

I'd also chime in with Exodus being two-time runners up in SCL, losing to Hydra in SCL 1 and then PL in SCL 2 if memory serves. So they weren't slouches coming into this at all. |

I only watched the last 4 matches, and the PL comeback. That comeback in itself was awesome. The Domi crew and the Rattle crew felt like they were right up my ally. Props to PL.
On a side note: It was kinda cool to see Bach and Brent on the panel. These are pilots I have fought before, so their input was much more relatable / relevant to me. Good job guys.

CVA, Agony and Snigg stand out as teams that in previous tournaments haven't had the best results, but really showed up this time with strong performances. No one should be surprised by Exodus.; they're excellent small gang pilots with good results in SCL/NEO and AT10. Sa souvraya niende misain ye. |

Ministry of inappropriate footwork did awesome for their first showing, they were only 1 step away from the quarter finals and had a good showing in their final loss against a setup that was very good against what they brought they almost pulled it off in spite of a setup that would have normally routed theirs. |

I'll also mention both CVA and Agony who managed to play creatively and strategically, producing matches that surprised, challenged preconceptions and educated me as a PvP noob. |

tbh, if someone says "Let's go to provi" It's usually followed by the words "To kill some noobs".
Sorry man, this is why you guys doing so good was surprising to us :P |

Well for the vast majority of the pilots out there: CVA = Providence = Noobs.
The fact there are literally towsands of pilots from hundreds of corps from dozens of alliances living in Providence, from wich CVA is only one of them doesn't matter since in the rest of EVE minds when you go to providence you gonna kill CVA. Even if in most of the fleets/gangs they're facing more then 90% of pilots are from other alliances. |

Ministry of inappropriate footwork surprised me, never heard of them till the AT, even LNA. Agony has always been a great team to watch because their setups are unique. Last years with the bait Bassi and logi tengu confused us.
I think the biggest challenge for us is practice. |

2 fish gossip about the ocean being dry, the school thinks its funny and repeats. Add to that peoples' love for generalization and soon you'll find yourself with a ridiculous rep. Reopen the EVE gate so we can invade Serenity. Goons can go first. |
