Right now all the NPCs in the game seem to share generally the same AI. A few simple scripted changes would add lots of flavor to the NPC game.
With two new AI procedures Ammo swapping and overheating the game would feel very dynamic.
Examples:
Overheating would occur as a scripted even where the NPC gains bonuses for 20 seconds then deactivates that system for 40 seconds to simulate nanite repair.
Blood Raiders: Overheat Weapons (30% increased DPS)
Angel Cartel: Overheat Propulsion (30% increased speed)
Guristas: Overheat E-War (ECM) 30% increased e-war strength
Serpentis: Overheat Tackle (Scram/Web) 30% range.
For the Navy factions who will all have had proper military training ammo should be swapped based on range.
This would use a small database that references the NPC target's current range, a damage modifier, and a color code (for crystals).
This would bring more life and variety to NPC combat and certainly take a stab at the dreaded PowerCreep without making anyone feel "nerfed". One of the oldest mission players in EVE designed a chart that explains stat priority in regards to mission running, compared Alpha, DPS, Ship Speed and Sig Radius and scores them. http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m24dbrfuWn1r86ax8o1_1280.jpg |

It will help PvE pilots recognise tried and tested PvP tactics, all the while developing means to counter those tactics.
Dammit, the game needs to force hisec carebears like me to PvP!

Those changes would only mean "oh they do more damage now" and "oh they don't do any damage right now", not very interesting tbh. I agree that better and more diverse AI would be very cool, but it should be in the behavior, not just a little more or less damage.
Example: NPC frigates and cruisers that fly out of range when you primary them, but can actually be scrambled and tackled. So there is valid reason to fit a scram to a pve ship and pin down targets like you would in pvp.
Or valuable boss enemies who warp out when they are about to die, unless you point them. . |
