As you might have noticed, all is not well with the new can-flagging rule.
I have noticed an increasing number of 'honey-trap' cans appearing. These are anchored cans with a slightly tasty (named T1) item left in and no password set.
It's an open invitation for someone to take the item, just to generate a 'Kill-Rights' flag. The trap setter will no doubt then hunt down the looter.
Whilst perfectly legal, this is against the morals of the can-flag system and I intend to respond. Please eve-mail me the location of any spotted traps in DOMAIN and I will endeavour to clean them up. If I take your genuine loot in error, let me know and I'll return it.
I was trying to think of a worthy cause for any ISK I may generate and it looks like Resevoir Dogs might be getting some love.
I expect to lose an awful lot of ships and spend my life in Impairors, but I reckon it's worth it for the hour or two I'll spend each day cleaning up these traps.

I saw the same thing today, in a bookstore. They had tons of awesome books on display OUTSIDE the store.
I mean, tons of people walking by, even young ones. Clearly an open invitation to steal and get the person flagged against the police. I walked into that store and I told them just how I felt about the situation!

Hehe, I like the analogy.
But I bet the store owner didn't put them there with the sole intent to encourage theft so he could prosecute the little tykes?

I say let the stupid get weeded out. If you are dumb enough to ignore the message box that pops up then you have to answer to the risk. The popup box is there for a reason.

Let me guess, you took a stack of books, and then put them at your outdoor display, then shot the owner of the store you stole them from when he came to get them back, right?
I didn't think so.

if you see a can thats not your, and want to take it, OMWTFGOD, thats your choice!
you want to die? you choose, am I a greedy basterd? can I get away with this?
then act, if your smart youll leave it alone unless your in a superior position, but no too many people are greedy, and thats what greedy people get on the end, and thats also fine with me.
and Miners, you can shoot the guy so why dont you? i see alot of poeple just smaktalking, but seem to be too afraid to do anything bout the can-swappers, ect, but thier fault. too lazy, pay the price

Replace 'take' with steal, the can flaggin was implemented after about a 1,5 year of whining to be able to shoot/kill orethief's now its here and you will have to live with it. If you don't want to get flagged don't steal stuff from can's its really that simple.

It is the canflagging system, it is not there to protect you it is there to take revenge on the thief. Anyone who steals from a can may be shot by the owner of said can. How is a module at some gate any different from some ore in a belt? Your supposed problem has an easy sollution, don't nick stuff from someone elses can's if you stick to that moral you wont have any trouble with the system.

Quote: If a pilot takes anything from your jettisoned canister, then your gang and/or your corporations will flag that pilot as a thief, and you are permitted to open fire on the pilot responsible for stealing your loot. CONCORD will neither enforce nor interfere with the matter, so it is up to the owner of the stolen property to exercise his or her right. Be warned that this could be used as a trap to lure smaller fleets into sanctioned engagements.
Someone didn't read the patch notes.

No you're not, your just an a-moral, uncivilized bastard, nothing less, nothing more. And it's ok, its all part of the game, noprobs. However, don't try to put the blame for YOUR actiopns on others: if you intentionally try to bait someone in stealing from you, so you can kill her, then all you say about the thief is true, but in the end you are the a-moral, uncivilized bastard, solely to blame for sniffing out an fnnocent' life... ----- FreeHansje

lol, but this is like the store owner watching the little tykes, and holding up a sign saying "if you take this, you'll get flagged to the police". Yet they take it still
On the other hand, it's lame doing this just to gank noobs who don't necessarily know better, and who really should learn to read the warning. The greedy deserve it and should know better.

I usually stay out of crowded systems but perhaps I should make visit, should be able to make a fair income by griefing the so called "griefers". Just get yourself a fast ship and a insta docking bms and empty all whose honey traps

I think that its a true testiment to man's petty-ness that one would actually find it fun or humourous to kill people who don't understand the implications of their actions.
You expect this sort of assholism(tm) to be ostrisizing in a game like EVE, where you NEED other players to survive. But someone continues to support these children in their little rebellion against the system.

First it's not rebelling against the system. If you take a look at my prior post you will see that it is implicated by the devs as to be a part of the system.
Furthermore how safe should the game be?
I've lost two ships so far.
The first was when I let off a smart bomb in empire space, the warning came up that, that might be a dangerous thing to do and I thought "Ahh there isn't anything around", well I don't know what it might have been but I was wrong and CONCORD showed up directly to show me the error of my ways.
Boomy goes my first Punisher
The second time I was fighting Angel frigates with a friend in a 0.3 system. Hunting rats is safe right? I mean if you ever get in over your head you just warp out right? Evidently higher level Angel's have warp disruptors.
Boomy goes my second Punisher.
The first time I lost a ship do to my own disregard of the game mechanics. The second time I lost my ship do to ignorance. I almost lost another ship because I didn't know what a "Deadspace Complex" was and wanted to check it out. If I had lost one there it would have also been to my ignorance(and perhaps foolishness for just walking into some place I was unfamilier with).
I am still a noob I've played this game all of a week and a half maybe. But as an adult when I lose a ship or come close I chalk that up to lesson learned. I took it for rote that EVE was a dangerous place and I don't feel ripped off when I pay for my mistakes.
EVE has risk. But it's risk you are able to minimize by learning the system and getting better(often by making mistakes). You think that the PvPers and gankers or whatever havn't lost ships? Read any Pirate 101 on here and you will see "Expect to lose plenty of ships".
I recommmend to any noob that gets popped for taking the tasty bait in a can, to chalk it up to a lesson learned and not do it anymore. Or atleast if you do, make sure you have the numbers or guns to take out the one who laid the trap.
EVE has risk, and I wouldn't play it if it didn't.
