I see only one way out of this to make everybody happy. We will simply have to raise the number of participating alliances to 64. Expect the original post to be updated soon.

As much as I love and adore eve and the work CCP have put into it, especialy for things like the newly lunched RMR I could not escape thinking: "This can't be good" as I heard the line "CCP are planing an event". People posting before my post have already said what I have to say about this, number is hardly anythin in EvE. I think choosing people for an even like this is a disgrace and very offending to the art form of PvP.
Just after I wrote it they plan to change it to 64, I guess CCP DO listen to us sometimes. does not seem so in many petitions. :P

Sounds good to me, but one thing I would change if I were you, don't register alliances if they don't ask to be registered.
Less headache for the organizers if people aren't automatically enrolled when they might not want to be.

I don't think anyone was ever registered, just that they were the only ones eligible.

Instead of just expanding the original number, why don't you simple solicit a few more ideas from the community about what they / we would like to see in an event of this nature? -

The floor is still open for suggestions, whether you wish to debate the rules or the format. I think raising the number to 64 accomodates pretty much everyone though. If you have ideas, please share them. I'm keeping a close eye on this post.

Limit it to 64 alliances, and say first come first served. You dont register, you dont get in etc etc

Yep I have two suggestions.
1) Don't limit it to 3 named pilots. Let the alliances submit the 3 pilots they want for each fight at the time. This cuts down the chance of no shows, makes it more interesting and more of an alliance event.
2) Don't permit people who joined the given alliance after say 21st December to prevent people flying for alliances they don't really represent.

Edited by: Chith on 23/12/2005 00:00:21 With the rules set up as they are, I'm not sure it could be fairly labeled a PvP tournament, as far as PvP fighting occurs in Eve. Unrestrict the EW and have the two teams warp to a beacon from different start positions. You should also just call it "The first annual holiday gank 'n tank!" You'd definately draw fewer grumpy opinions. Whatever happened to the thin veil of roleplaying in events, anyway? |

There are a few things that I know, for logical reasons, are not stated yet - however, it's pretty critical to know *when* the fighting would be taking place - since that will determine who we could field.
Second, what about substitutes? Again, based on time and date, some people may have christmas obligations, but they can obviously not tell if they'll be around without any date/times.
Another thing that would be good to have set:
In the case Team A and Team B fights, Team A wins, but have lost 2 of their ships. How long do they have to go and get new ships, will they be allowed to change to another ship/setup? Will refitting between matches be allowed, and if not, how will it be monitored? Some people cannot afford to make an identical copy of whatever ship/setup they will be running for round 1, etc.
So, yeah.
Dates. Times. Replacement allowance Substitutes? Fight intervals.
Above points I'd much appreciate having shed light on.

The tournament will be held December 27th-30th between 15:00 and 01:00 (exact times and dates along with pairings will be posted on the 26th).
Players will be given atleast two hours between fights to refit/get a new ship.
Twenty minutes after a match starts, another will begin. This cycle will continue for several hours until all scheduled matches of that day are completed. Longer time will be given in the quarter finals, semi finals and finals.
Substituting a pilot for another is not allowed. Switching ships/setups is allowed.

we at eve-uni have been looking at running a similar tournament, but based on a team points system (max 50 points per team, each chip is worth x amount of points, etc.) it allows for a more varied gang setup a well as helping to promote funthings like flying haulers into combat - something similar may be able to be worked into this. The other thing we looked at was having 4 teams in a fight at the same time, and rather than it being a pure gank/tank fest, make it a capture the flag style event, so this way tewams get points for both killing the enemy as well as stealing their 'flag' (a bm or something similar in an enemy anchored can)
not sure if any of that is feasible, or if it's possible to get planned out before the time you wanted, but may be worth looking at in the future.
p.s. We'll be sending a team in i'm sure, just don't know who we are sending yet. ----------------------

"7.Cloaking is not allowed."
Why is this? A bit of a kick in the nuts for those who would prefer to have a stealth bomber for thier frigate.

Edited by: Elsebeth Rhiannon on 23/12/2005 09:14:17 The timeframe you guys have is a bit interesting - info up on 22nd, registration by 26th, only one person of each alliance can send it. What if that one person happens to be on holidays or something? Not very unheard of during these particular days of the year. ;)
Yes, I assume the answer is someone else just sends the mail and explains. Still, it's a bit silly that the time when the alliances should be deciding who competes etc is such a short time and right on Xmas...:D Another way to limit number of participants? ;)
EDIT: no, I have no clue what Electus Matari is doing about the thing, yet, and this is not related to the alliance at all. Just a general note.

It's true it kinda nerfs that particular thing but if you were to cloak you could stay cloaked and your mates just warp off (then they are techincaly dead). After then 10 minutes past your 1, ashuming frig, setup will be cheaper than thoose of your oponent. Lame thing to do but there are players in EvE that use lame tactiques. *cough WCS cough*

Sure it may be a bit late, but at least he is trying to set up it up. What did you expect anyway? That during RMR they will also come up with a fully detailed plan for this event that will please everyone here? ( we all know pleasing everyone on the forums is impossible).

Edited by: jamesw on 23/12/2005 11:47:46 I think the no EW no cloaking rule is a bit lame.
Especially after CCP have introduced all these wonderful new toys for people to play with.
The rules jamesw would <3 One System (make it a small system without too many warpables). No Safespots allowed. Warping is allowed. No WCS. *ANY* Named / T2 modules (no uber faction/deadspace etc etc)
That IMO would test *real* pvp skills, not just ship setups. Dont like the range? warp out - jockey for position. Scan where your enemy lies in wait and strike!

There are of course lots of things we wish we could do differently, but only so much can be accomplished without putting too much strain on the event people.
Allowing people to cloak would result in what one person mentioned earlier, players would simply cloak and wait until the round time runs out.
Allowing people to warp and set up strategies is a great idea, but a fight like that will most certainly take longer than the time we have.
EW is forbidden because of the small number of members on each team. I think most would agree that a competition where the team that is able to lock down the others teams battleship first wins, is no fun at all.
I'm certain that you all have different views and opinions on how this should go down and I fully respect that. I'm also certain that we cannot possibly meet every demand and request asked.
I have been discussing setups and tactics with players and I feel that the choice of ships and modules players have is so large, that it would be impossible to tell beforehand which setup or tactic will stand out as the best.
To answer some rules questions put forth:
Battlecruisers and destroyers are not allowed.
Battleships allowed: All tech 1 battleships including faction variatons (such as Nightmare, Machariel, Navy Raven etc.)
Cruisers allowed: All tech 1 and tech 2 including faction variations (such as Cynabal, Vigilant, Navy Caracal etc.)
Frigates allowed: All tech 1 and tech 2 including faction variations (such as Hookbill, Dramiel, Silver Magnate etc.)

If Battle cruisers and destroyers are not allowed I take it that HAC's aren't either?
Now, how to convince GF that I will need to play and the big one: convince MC that I'm a good PvPer and let me participate in our team...

HACs are allowed seeing as they're tech 2 cruisers.
