Had an idea for a cool ship concept. Basically its a ship that has a cloaking sphere around it although it is not cloaked itself. Any ship inside the sphere is cloaked as long as no modules are activated, when a ship within the projected cloaking sphere activates a module it becomes visible on grid. So basically a cloaking sphere projecting ship. Maybe use a T2 variant of the new destroyer hulls and a T2 variant of some of the plentiful cruiser hulls. The cloaking sphere projection ship would have low dps high tank and resists. Anyone think this would be worth exploring? |

Also, Ships should NOT decloak on other fleet members ships in the sphere regardless of their cloak status and distance. Non fleet members within the sphere can still decloak at 2.5K... Food for thought. |

What happens if you have 10 of those on the grid spidertanking? |

Wouldn't that be messed up? Gate camps would become more prevalent as you could hide them, theoretically, better. Until they D-scan the new ship. I don't like the idea personally and there are a couple of key points which make it particularly horrendous. Firstly it would (as I understand it) require an entirely new cloaking mechanic. More notable is the second-post-edit... Have you any idea just how many ships you could fit into a (for instance) 10km diameter (5km range) sphere 'bait-ball' if you don't require a 2.5km separation between them?
The idea sounds like one of those which hasn't been thought through. |

Maybe as a thought the said ship needs to have a module activated to be cloaked. Therefore is not able to be cloaked by another.
Also only allow the cloaking field to only be able to cloak a certain amount off mass. Maybe 3 frigs, or 2 destroyers. Maybe less.
Certainly not having a ship that could cloak 10 ships if they stayed within a pre defined distance.

If it is it's own cloak then it can be cloaked, if it's the cloaking sphere then it cannot?
Or even have the ship that can cloak the others not able to be cloaked due to the interference from the cloaking sphere emmiter arrays subsystems?

I know, right? Normally you have to specifically select the forum where such things go but here it is all sitting in Ships and Modules for us. |

I love all the lambasting & classical eve dushebaggery... There are, however some good points here. All of these concerns could be addressed by properly designing the ship, and its mechanics.
Ill go over some thoughts I had and then scroll down and address points i feel worth mentioning.
First of all, the cloaking sphere projection ship DOES NOT CLOAK, and it cannot cloak within another cloaking projectors sphere with its cloaking sphere projection modules activated. You could cloak it within another sphere without any modules activated but would render the ships capabilities useless. These are intended to be used to cloak small gangs to large fleets so maybe a pattern system could be integrated similarly to scanner probe layout for multiple sphere projection ships.
1. Spider tanking, good point. However, if the power grid and CPU are only enough to support a good tank and not many guns (2-3 guns on the boat) then your left with no power grid for remote reppers to spider tank. You could strip everything else off and just have the remote reppers, but then you wold have no tank. If you have logi cloaked and they decloak to rep the sphere projectors then the logi has decloaked itself and whatever is within the standard 2.5K range as the current cloaking mechanics work. If you do only logi in one sphere ect then you only have your logi uncloaked and you cant really do much damage with logi and the enemy can see the logi on grid now and decide if they want to commit or run. Would add a much needed element to nullsec fleets imo.
2. What happends if you have ten on grid or something? Suppose you could cloak quite a few ships then... Except for the ten cloaking projector ships that is... The Projector ships will always show on D-scan, unless they are not projecting and cloaked within another cloaking projection sphere.
3. How many ships, mass, ect. Yes, those are good concerns, and I dont think the ship should have the ability to cloak battleships, carriers ect. I think Battle cruisers or possibly only as large as cruisers could cloak in a projected cloaking sphere. The amount of ships that can cloak in a projected sphere should be based on how many ppl can fit in the wing that ship is cloaking.

Forgive the crude micro paint but I think it gets the point acrost.

yes because we need more ships that can be cloaked and then decloak without penalty. sounds totally balanced. |
