So maybe stop deluding yourself. If you could scam someone in IRL and get away with it, without that person coming to your home with a chainsaw to murder you, you would. And that's the beauty of EVE. Nobody can take any legal or illegal action against you after the scam has taken place, because there is NO SUCH system in EVE.
No, I wouldn't. When I worked at a company IRL that did all sorts of things to scam its customers, I blew the whistle publicly because stealing from the elderly is utterly against my conscience. Cost me a reasonable job but it was the right thing to do. Using deception to outdo a rival in a game, however? Not against my conscience at all, whether it be in chess, EVE, or any other game. i have a friend in Eve who is 60+ yo person in RL. he is very invested in this game. With his time and (possibly) real money. Should you scam him in the game you will steal RL time, effort and money he invested into the game. Still "this is only game"?
Maybe he should find another hobby like birdwatching or bingo? And the whole "rl" excuse is one I tire of hearing. Your friend isn't the only one who may plex from time to time. I myself purchase plex simply because my real life dictates what my free time in eve looks like.
It is actually more efficient for me to go to work and blow the whole two days wages on plex than it is to rat. Hour per hour I make enough to actually justify it. Does this mean I should use it as an excuse if I lose an expensive ship or am the victim of an elaborate scam?
My time in New Eden has taught me enough to just accept the myriad of possibility instead of using my rl age, orientation, race, religion (or lack thereof) or any other unheeded topic to garner sympathy in a game that has none.
In other words tell your friend welcome to Eve. Shut up, learn and accept the risk like everyone else. Visit my blog for all the latest in jeers and tears as well as news at hoistthecolors.org |

Okay OP, this isn't a very good story (because I'm not a very good scammer) but here goes...
I was sitting in a market hub on my alt, having just set up a margin trading scam for some stupid item. I think it was Current Amplifiers or something like that. After about 2 hours of doing other things on this character, I tabbed back to my alt to see that nobody had yet gobbled up my bloated sell orders.
I was slightly annoyed, as I was new to escrow scamming and wasn't sure what to expect in terms of a timetable. So I figured; the hell with it and shout in local with my alt "GOSH LOOK AT THIS ITEM [linking current amplifiers] SOMEBODY COULD MAKE A REAL KILLING PLAYING THE MARKET."
I had a blinky wallet and was 400mil richer in less than 5 minutes |
