This game is growing faster than the hardware can handle. Jita grew to over 450 people today, causing people to not be able to dock, undock, refit their ships, sneeze. It was insane lag. I'm not sure how this would work, but there should be some sort of an Idle timer in super-packed systems like this. I could probably count 15-20 idle ships sitting at gates and stuff that would actually do a good lot to clear up some lag. Once Jita got below 400 people the lag that disabled everything went away(ish). I just think that some sort of a 30 mil idle timer here or someting would at least do a minute amount to clear up the lag.

I agree - idle timers would be a welcome feature. Set it to something lenient, just make sure people can't sit afk for hours on end.

Tbh the solution is simple, in systems like Jita taxes should go trough the roof, think 20% taxes after 2 weeks of 400-500 people in the sys. Concord would do this compensate for the major stress all these people are causing on the network.
And there we go, there will never be a market hub again because people dont want 20% taxes on their stuff. -------------

The solution wouldn't be to cause people to pay more for already SUPER over-prices ships/items. 130 mil for a HAC, 18 mil for a cap II... bad idea, IDLE TIMERS 4tw!

That's a really good idea tbh.
And, Zarth - you're complaining about all those people being there, were you just there to complain or did you have a purpose?

I kinda produce tech 2 stuff here and sell it with my alt... I tried to move, but having to move stuff to a different location, but with wars flying an indy=bad--so if you want to move the stuff for me then be my guest, I'd be happy to get out of this lagfest.

AFAIK, since the load-balancers of the game application servers dish out only as much server power as a player needs to do what it is they are doing, an idle player gets next to nothing as far as server resources. this is so the more active players recieve the most attention fro mthe game servers.
though i am also expirienceing lag and disconnects quite a bit, maybe even with the load-balancing working as intended, there just isnt enough power to go around.
but today has given CCP another reason to upgrade thier servers once again to cope with the expansion of the player base.
What i'm wondering is, if the dismantling of the old super-highways caused this crowding into oone system. I think maybe it has. it was done i believe to reduce traffic, but it may have been counter-productive. i say this because maybe its the lack of mobility that lead to people cramming into once system, for commerce to occur with decreased mobility, everyone has to have a 1-stop-shop as no one wants to travel to more than 1-2 places to get the gear they need.
Solution? thats a though question. my suggestion would be to put a parcel service into the game ASAP, allowing players to shop from distant locations and based on jump-distance are able to get thier packages in a certain ammount of time.
Heres a cool idea, have agents for an NPC-run parcel service that give out delivery missions. the recipients and haulers themselves would be anonymous. also would be cool to have NPC ships that also physically deliver the packages, and so packages could be intercepted and destroyed (but not stolen). this would in effect contain delivery services to empire space for the most part.

BTW: CCP did announce going to 64-bit servers. that should help quite a bit.
on a monday? well it's the day after new years, it's likely that almost EVERYONE has the day off, in the US and europe.

No, it will just cause a lot of corps to pack up their production divisions. The game actively punishes expanding into new markets, that must change before people will spread out.

Dont screw around with market again its so annoying not knowing where the hubs are, and without hubs it would be a nightmare to fit out a ship. But defantly move all agents from jita and closeby systems that should help with the traffic and i cant see it setting back agent runners all that much... Most must go for the idea since trying to complete a mission with that kinda lag must be impossible. Maybe increase the amount of belts also since that would surely make less people in one place which should help the server surely?

Trade hubs are a problem though, regional markets should be the way to go, with something similiar to Escrow being the universal trade hub.
