The current solution is, in point of fact, the closest to a resolution that is acceptable to both sides that I can imagine. With a little luck and hard work, it might even be the foundation of some sort of solution to our current war.
Unfortunately, I suspect more than a little luck will be needed. Given that neither nation has pushed for a detente, and that Roden profits personally from the war, it will likely be some time before this perpetual border skirmish draws to a close.
That said, I'm actually rather hoping that these documents enter general circulation. I'd be curious what expectations, projections, and preparations the Federation undertook. In all honesty, I expect that the Roden administration will be embarrassed by some of it, at the very least.
Also, Mr. Ixiris, thank you for removing those terrible, horrible glasses. |

Yeah, those were to get the Shiigeru out of orbit. Totally. Why else? We totally had no objectives otherwise, really. Even if we said so. Big bluff. Yup. A week of fighting on the planet? Yeah, that was...uh, because we didn't want to reinforce things. Didn't want to use our firepower to, you know, win. Ignore those news reports. They have nothing to do with the things. Uh, gotta go.
As I have said, the troops that were sent in were to aid Gallente rebels and dismantle the totalitarian regime of the Provist. You can look at the news reports yourself. Not a single one says that the troops were for the purpose of invasion or occupation.
Removing the Shiigeru was the main goal, getting rid of the Provist butchering our citizens was the next. We accomplished both and neither have involved occupying your planet.

Considering that the fall of the Shiigeru ultimately heralded the fall of Heth-guri, I'd say Syagrius is onto something.
I wouldn't be surprised if this is why the Highlander document is considered sensitive: that Federation was willing to accept the deployment of a doomsday device against Caldari Prime, and this may not be something the Roden administration would like widely known. |

They also involved the butchery of innocent civilians - such as Kaalakiota miners and several and sundry atrocities and war crimes. And don't try to sell me a line of soft soap on that because these things have been confirmed by independent witnesses. |

Bugabus,
I'm sorry you seem to think I'm attacking you. It really wasn't intended as such. However, it does perplex me that you would, on the one hand say that we (ie. everyone) really have no truth to the reasons behind Highlander, while assuming you have enough information to personally know, or speculate as to what these reasons were. Consider it someone tapping you on the shoulder telling you to "Be careful."
As to this deal with the fabled 'straw man,' and I do hate that saying, it is very hard to create a 'straw man fallacy' when you yourself are basing your thoughts on speculation. Such loose grounds are really impossible to go below to create a 'straw man.'

I don't think you were attacking me personally, I'm sorry if I gave that impression. Attacking what I said though, yes, which I don't take personally as this is an open discussion and anything I say can and should be put under scrutiny. However, I felt that you did so in a way that I wasn't too fond of.
Thank you for the tap on the shoulder. However, I and the others in this thread are merely looking at what we know to be correct and creating arguments based on that. If at any point I am proven wrong or convinced that I am wrong (yes it does happen, I'm willing to change my opinion if I can be convinced) I will openly acknowledge it. I'm a stubborn bastard, but I am open minded.
And I suppose the nature of this discussion makes it difficult for a true strawman fallacy to emerge. I apologize for my rather unjustified accusation, I read that rather early in the morning for me. I'm not a fan of mornings and do get rather grumpy.

But don't worry, when the time will come, the DMZ will be revoked and the defense perimeter will be reestablished.

No, he's not a "hero of the State," he's responsible for the murder of a hero of the State. He was then responsible for the terrorist seizure of a Caldari Constructions station. After refusing to stand down and co-operate with the CEP, he was denounced by the CEP and the Kaalakiota board of directors.
He then fled from CEP justice when it came for him.
The executor position he created for himself, and the support infrastructure to the position in the form of the Caldari Providence Directorate were both dissolved, and the CEP restored to their rightful position as the State's leadership. The Caldari Business Tribunal (remember, those people you think are going to reinstate Heth rather than prosecute him?) and the CEP both issued warrants for his arrest on a laundry list of offences.
Heth is a hero to no-one in the State, because no-one in the State would revere a man who has defied State law and custom on multiple occasions and refused to answer for it in front of legitimate State authority. This marks him as a traitor.

It won't be an attack to 'make arses' of anything or anybody. It will be attack to recover and secure OUR property. And to bring justice to those, who are still trying to take it from us. And to incapacitate them enough, so they won't raise their heads and stretch their filthy greedy gallentean hands to our homes ever again.

Pray that the peace holds. Pray that our respective diplomats and leaders don't abrogate the arrangement regarding Caldari Prime. Hold your democratically elected leaders accountable for their behaviour or else look for our return in force.
The outcome was the way it was because Heth was in charge. Next time, look to see a competent attack that would, more than likely, put the doomsday weapon over YOUR homeworld and not ours. Keep in mind our actions against the Shiigeru were done specifically to prevent this from happening. We knew that at any moment, the Shiigeru and her fleet could take a quick warp over to Gallente Prime and lay waste to the planet. Heth's borderline genocidal attitude towards our nation made this more than a worse case scenario, but a reality we may face if we don't act.
The Doomsday weapon may have been over your homeworld, but it was pointed at ours. Operation Highlander had to be flawless. One screw up and that would lead to the capture and even possible destruction of Gallente Prime and possibly put Luminaire and other Federation systems under full Caldari control. Even worse, it could of justified such a further push into Gallente space.
We know the consequences of starting the same horrific scenario up again just as much as you do. Only a U-Nat would probably support going through this again, but nobody but the worst of humanity would vote for them right now.
