I think CCP is OK with us making videos on YouTube. Since they aren't really saying anything I would cut out any EVE Online music, and talk a little during the video.
Anyways, I have over 100 videos on EVE how to and what not. The only copyright notice I've ever gotten on an EVE video wasn't from CCP. It was from a AdRev company that was scamming YouTube's content ID for public and royalty free songs. You can click here to see which video I'm talking about.
BTW, if it wasn't for YouTube videos on EVE Online I wouldn't be playing EVE. Like I do my research before I pick up a copy of a game. Even more so if it's an MMO since MMO games can take years to get done with. I know I'm not the only one here today because of some YouTube videos they seen before trying out EVE Online for the first time. So I have some serious doubts CCP will go against YouTube videos; unless if it shows off cheats, things that aren't out yet, and so on. Hell is around every turn. It's your choice to go in it or not. I think that highly depends on who you talk to in CCP. Unofficially, I talked to some about this and they about treat you as some demon or something for even thinking this. Then there are some that about gives you a high five for helping out CCP.
In all honesty, I think it comes down to the lawyers and the uppers. I hope this gets officially answered soon. But, I also hope they keep in mind some of this stuff we (the video makers) are doing isn't cheap. I mean some of us has to keep up $600 microphones, $400 recording software, a $2000 computer, $x amount for help, and so on (giving we are trying to make something that others will want to watch).
BTW, if CCP does officially say yes. They could do some marketing thing to help sell their games, and bring views to video makers videos. Like CCP could upload our EVE Online videos to it's YouTube account, or link them to a playlist. Also, CCP could make a monthly awards for the best EVE Online video. In return, people will make better videos. More people will see the videos and join EVE Online. And so on Hell is around every turn. It's your choice to go in it or not. I seem to remember a devblog, which is not the best for legal standings on issues such as this, that said as video creators we own the copyright of the video we make. Its going to take me a while to find it though. CCP has been rather prolific in the past year |

Not really. Youtube or some network partners pays us for letting them put ads on our videos. The more views, the more money.
1,000 views= $1 give or take a few cents and the time of year (This is before YouTube and/or networks take their share) Hell is around every turn. It's your choice to go in it or not. not quite true. google only gets a cut if you tell them to monetize the video. if you do not select the video to be monetized google will not run ads on it |

Hey!
You are free to monetize your videos through the YouTube partner program and similar programs. We want you to make great videos and spread the love that is EVE and if you make a little incentive through a partner ad program, that's cool.
If you find other ways of monetizing EVE content, we may need to have a separate discussion and maybe draft a contract or something.

Thanks. Does this include our friends on http://www.twitch.tv/ ? I'm not on Twitch, so I can't say what is the difference $ wise on twitch. Maybe someone can jump in and say how many views per $1, or how money and partnerships works on Twitch. Hell is around every turn. It's your choice to go in it or not. with twitch you get money up to two ways. first is advertisements which are probably prate per thousand industry standard or there are subscriber fees you can collect. fundamentally there is no real difference between tube and twitch. twitch the only significant thing is that it is live not prerecorded.
much prefer youtube to twitch because i like to do stuff in post production :P |

How long did it take before they got back to you? Google is famous for not reading e-mails (due to manpower or greed).
BTW, I literally had to find and call a person that works at Google to get some of my things answered. Like their support is for crap, and most of their departments (like the market and Google Wallet) doesn't have a e-mail, phone number, or anything. In fact, here is a video Markee Dragon made when he dealt with a similar problem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xu90Kvzuuns Hell is around every turn. It's your choice to go in it or not. BTW, Scott Manley talks about this exact problem. It's about 18 min in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ls47fGMsS8

Well Youtube doesn't like the forum post, they need something more official, I guess something like this Red 5 Studios Video Policy page.

For now I don't monotize my video's. It seems counter productive from Google/YouTube to outlaw certain content when the company that owns the game/footage is perfectly fine with us making video's. I think if the YouTube community didn't make video's and reviews, it would certainly bring down customers. We, as video and content creators bring in a lot of people for gaming companies.
They should switch to a system where companies are responsible for their own crap, instead of having Google/YouTube do their work for them.
Second issue that I have with the system is that it's automated and any communication to them is hardly looked at because they have an automated system in place, so why not trust it right ? So if they decide to use a system like that, then atleast have companies be responsible for their stuff instead of banning content upfront when it's fully endorsed.
Google/YouTube is famous for their information leaking / sharing to and with agencies and crap like that, so it doesn't surprise me that they don't really care about the induvidual person and rather focus on good relationships with companies.

Hi everyone, Quick update here.
I finally managed to monetize my first 2 videos. At first I was also bumping into the problem of youtube not accepting the permission. After trying 4 times i gave up but then they asked me to fill in a performance form about their interventions and after explaining it all a fifth time they have accepted monetization for EVE Online videos it seems.
I explained that a game developer won't give out hundreds of individual permissions but like Valve, blizzard and others CCP posted their permission on the forums or on a policy page. So if you come across youtube asking for the permission i would try adding a screenshot of the post, then also showing them other similar cases like:
mount and blade: http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php?topic=226904.0 because it's also a forum post and valve, blizzard because those are so well known.
I would advise to stay polite and patient at all times, but feel free to be insistent because Guard's post should be and is enough.
I hope this helps, your last resort would be a direct mail to ccp asking the permission which, for full disclosure i have also done as backup, but i have not needed to use it yet.

If you need to write us for permission, we can provide a standardized reply for you to show them. If needed we can also post a news item that you can refer to which is probably clearer and less work for everyone...whatever is needed! Please keep us posted if you guys continue having problems.

All Youtube require is a page we can link to.
Examples are
Ubisofts page http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/773563-Ubisoft-policy-on-YouTube-videos-Forums
Valves Page http://www.valvesoftware.com/videopolicy.html
Once you have a page like that we can put videos up and link youtube to them which they will accept as permission This saves you haveing to give out individual permissions.
Hope this Helps
