Just got one of these but the only setup I run on it atm is
4x T2 Neutron Blasters 1x Med Nos --- MWD 7.5k Scrambler Webber **NOT DECIDED ON THE 4TH SLOT YET** --- Med Armour Rep (T2 when I can) 2 Passive Hardeners 1600mm plate (nano) WCS (don't like the idea of losing this one :P)
I know this setup totally ignores the 'Medium Guns Bonus' the Vigilant gets, so I need a post RMR PvP setup that includes them... or is the BlasteRax setup the way to go?

I too have never flown vigilant but I often fly Thoraxes and want a 4th slot for cap injector. So if you could somehow fit that in, I think it would make a great addition.

This ship is very flexible in setup, but my current setup for pve is:
High: 4 x dual 150s/4 x Ions, heavy launcher(EM)
Med: MWD II/AB II, Tracking Disrupter II, Tracking Computer II/webber, Med Cap Booster II (200/400)
Low: Med Repp II, 1/2 x Mag stab II, 1/0 x Tracking Enhancer II, expl II, nano II.
The med slots are flexible so can swap in scramblers, webbers etc if for pvp.
Small guns for me is a waste. If I need a plate , i'll sqeeze in a 400 tungsten or shoe horn an 800 II in somehow.

As I said this ship is strictly for PvP use...
So it'll be medium blasters and no plate? No other ideas anyone?

I use the following set-up for PvE, no idea how it would fair in PvP.
2 Heavy Ion 1 Heavy Neutron 1 Limos Rocket Launcher 1 Med Nos
1 Langour Webber (I'm guessing for PvP you'd want Fleeting Propulsion) 1 AB Tech II - replace with MWD for PvP. 1 Barton Cap Recharger 1 Heat Dissapation Amp (which will be replaced with a Tracking Computer at some point)
1 Med Repper Tech 2 2 Energised Plates (probably want to replace with Hardeners for PvP) 1 Beam Paralax Tracking Program 400mm Nanofibre Plate
Its a good, tough, fast, ship and looks great.

If strictly for pvp then:
High: 5 x Ion II (Skills permitting) Med: MWD II, 7.5Km scram, tracking disrpter II, Med Cap Booster II (400) Low: Med Repper II, Mag Stab II, Explosive II, Nano II, 800 Steel II.
If you know your enemy then fit hardner accordingly, otherwise boost your weakest and use a nano to raise all. Also consider using a damage control to give you extra boost to armour and shield.

Takes down BC's (except prophecy's) with relative ease, and other cruisers are a doddle. Have fun -------------------------------------

5x ion II = 711 grid with AWU 5
10mn MWD II = 165 med cap booster II = 150
med rep II= 173 800mm steel II = 230
So you'd need at very least 1429 grid to fit that. Guess how much a vigilant has.

Ya, do any of you acctually fly a vigilant? Or do you just dream of them, because there is no way in hell half those setups fit it's grid. I got a good setup but mum's the word.

Also, centurin, you didn't post a setup either, so why bother posting at all? Atleast hinder said what not to use, you didn't contribute any to the general public's knoledge.

Been watching this thread for a while to see what turns up as I love this ship..
Here's one for the mix...
Highs: 4 x Light Neutron T2 - Void Ammo 1 x Cloak (or replace with a 5th Light Neutron T2)
Mids: Webby, Scrambler 7.5K, MWD & Large Shield Extender T2
Lows: Med T2 Rep, 1600mm Rolled Tungsten, 3 x Mag Stab T2
Drones: T2 Mediums
It does all fit and it does appear to work well & is a lot of fun. No additional resistances but you do get somewhere in the region of 13K hitpoints.
You could replace the webby with a sensor booster - helps when uncloaking imho... Obviously only useful if you're being a sneaky sod... *cough
Also ignores the medium bonus too...

Fly to any Sepentis Narcotics Wharehouse 3/10 complex (everyshore constellation has quite a few of these) and get in line with all the other complex farmers. If you manage to find a 'clean' complex, you get a chance to get a Vigliant BPC drop. I won't tell you where in the complex, or what drops it because that will ruin the fun, but that's where I got my two Vigilants. You could buy one from escrow approx 60mill and typically in Empire-controlled space.
Originally by: Nagissa Kaworu hmm why do people use small blasters on a ship with a huge bonus to medium blasters
Well said. Medium Blasters are the way to go IMHO. If you have Gallente Crusier lvl5, you get an awesome tracking bonus too.
I've found that if you use the missile hardpoint, it's better to use blasters in the remaining slots as the dps with just 4 T2 Dual 150mm rails isn't as good.
The extra midslot opens up another set of choices and it really depends on the other fittings for the ship. I think most will go for a cap booster to try and keep their reppers and MWD happy - which are pretty crucial with a blaster or plated/full tank setup. A Tracking Disruptor is a good option and named is preferable as the CPU requirements of a T2 will be out of reach on most setups. If you fit a missile launcher, you could put a painter on-board but, it's not gonna be used much unless you are killing intys or frigs and even then, you are going to be fitting an assault lancher, which is designed to take down smaller craft. You could fit a second webber - theory being you can use it to web any deployed drones by your enemy, and use either your drones or your guns to destroy them one, by one. Or just activate both webbers on one ship. From a pirates perspective - using a full gank setup - having an 20km scrambler and a 7.5km scrambler is a desirable option, to catch the low-sec miners, giving them less chance to get away before you get into optimal blaster range.
For the lows, the general rule-of-thumb is the less tank you fit, the bigger the guns will be (gank or tank) and the choice is down to each player. If you assume standard mid slot arrangement of MWD/WEB/SCRAM and any other option for the 4th, the only balancing act is the High Slots and the Low Slots. As others have said here, if you fit Light Blasters (which I really don't prefer myself) then you can go 'all out' on a tank and fit a huge battleship-sized 1600mm plate. The other end of the scale is a full rack of the biggest T2 Heavy Blasters you can fit in the highs and have zero tank, just resists and Mag Stabs and (maybe) an armour repper.
The Vigilant has a nice 50m3 of Drone bay - fill it with Mediums as 2 heavies are not as good. If you fit Infiltrator's and/or Valkyrie's, you will have a better spread of damage on your target covering Thermal, Kenetic, Explosive and EM.
Due to the Deimos prices being what they are, the Vigilant is worth a look, nice looking ship, good bonuses and very flexible for PvP.

AK. |

Tried these configs and they all die on cap. I guess that once orbiting in optimal that the MWD has to be turned off in order to make sure not do run out of cap ? Any comments on the tactics used for this ship ?
The opinions expressed herein are not necessarily those of my corps, not necessarily mine, and probably not necessary.

IMHO : Train Minmatar Crusier to LVL4/5 to fix the cap issue and/or high speed maneuvering to LVL4/5.
With regards to tactics, lock target, approach with MWD, release drones, web, scram, switch off MWD (because ya sig radius will be the size of a planet) and activate main weapons.
Rinse and repeat.
Choice number two is to fit a cap injector in the forth slot...

AK.
