Will things like zone alarm protect against key-loggers? How does one get infected by a key-logger?

no really though 3 characters is NOT enough for a secure password. try along the order of at least 10 characters for a SECURE password.
If I was looking for the perpetrator, the finger of suspicion would be pointing right at the owner of this alt right now. What's the matter, BoB kill your indy or something?

microsoft wont be releasing the update for a few days i think, some other av progs allready have.
A report shows most people affected by this virus are people that view wmv p*rn movies

someone may of got your ip from you useing a team speak server or other such softwear, hack your pc and possimble inserted a key logger onto your pc, or may be a admin for a gaming web site where they have an eve froum and would be able to get your pc's ip
Get your self a virus/trojan scanner more than 1 as some find stuff others dont, keep its data base upto date and install a firewall

I would like our super-expert technicians of keyloggers like Isatrapp to explain us a few things:
1- where did you read that the new vulnerability of Windows would let a hacker steal your passwords ? Link to official sources please. 2- how did the hacker get to know of the existance of Miri Tirzan ? There are millions of users on the internet and to contact one to install a keylogger on his/her computer you must know their IP. This is quite hard to get to know unless the hacker is sniffing the network of CCP.
The only other chance is that Miri Tirzan got to a website owned by the hacker and that can exploit windows security holes to install a keylogger program on a PC. But even then, Miri must have a static IP and no protection whatsoever installed on or before his/her computer...

Just atheory of course:
Most of the players visit fansites and forums every now and then. Every single site/forum could contain such a wmf file desinged to log your account data and send it. If you are using Internet Explorer then clicking on a link that contains such a wmf file (could also be named as .jpeg or .gif) will automatically allow remote code execution.

to the op: CCP should be able to find the IP which the basterward who emptied your account connected from, and then file a petition (!) with the ISP responsible for that IP-range.
On another note, if CCP is serious about their reputation, they should actually ban all accounts belonging to/paid by that user/creditcard, to show that they dont tolerate this sort of monkeybusiness. Imho, that is.

I ran an unpatched copy of windows XP (no SP1, or SP2) for over six months on ADSL and never got the most minor virus. Look up "firewall" on Google, and install one and firefox. Oh and don't install warezed programs.
I don't think you trust, in, my, self-righteous suicide. |

Miri, just petition and pass on all details to the GM's.
If your a/c was hacked it will be fixed and the player banned.
I remember when KIA got done over in NVA, it was all fixed expertly by the GM's.

1) CNN is not an official source about Windows OS. I probably know more about Windows than Marsha Walton. 2) my bank does not use a simple password protection like MMORPGs. I hope your bank does the same, assuming you are old enough to be able to own a bank account. Also, does this advice come from someone who has so strong beliefs and knowledges but can't notice that the OP password was composed from 8 charachters and not 3 ? Ah well... 4) to upload something somewhere you must first know where is this somewhere and how to contact it. The only real way the OP could get a keylogger is through a web page, but I doubt he visited a chinese website like those that offer you ingame money etc, or at least I hope he didn't.

U really need to understand what hacking is.
Anyone could backdrop CCP's line, port scan, find the right entry, conenct the port, slam thru using brute force.
There are thousands of ways of hacking a server/mainframe
I suggest u check ur pc for a keylogger

You need to education yourself with internet security, simple things like using different password with certain amount of password complexity helps along away too, when I say password complexity, using uppercase, lowercase and special characters can be your best friend and changing you're password every month also a good pointer.
Since you use a shared medium with other people around the world, you run the risk every time you log onto the internet.
