Im surprised to find that CCP doesnt do this, but in order to have a quick look at what your customers think of ther direction you are headed in why dont you have "patch surveys" with the release of each patch?
Like stated above, it would give you a quick look at the results of your work.
For each change/addition/deletion in EVE listed, have an option from 1 to 10 on how players feel about it.
1. Dont like at all 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. Live very much.
Yes, you have the feedback forum but that doesnt give you a picture of where players stand without having to read through a ton of replies.
Survey hosting can be found most everywhere online, but to keep it from being exploited by non-eve players, perhaps an inhouse version where you are required to log in would be best.
I would like to provide feedback, but I feel that one voice among thousands wil never be heard without resorting to post-Incarna level riots. So perhaps surveys is the way to go. |

'please fill out this form covering several hundred changes, bug fixes, tweaks, rebalances and new things, half of which have never and will never affect you in any way' you mean?
Why? Who's going to trawl through several hundred responses from several thousand people, and what would be the point? |

Are you serious?
Well, ok....you see you have this really fancy calculator on your desktop called a computer. You are most likely using it now to write your replies in this thread. (Although many people think it's only useful for pew-pew games and facebook.)
People called "programmers" write intructions for them so they can take massive ammounts of data and process it very quickly to give you a coherent picture of what the data is all about.
The end result is a chart of somekind showing what the data exhibits.

As for who is going to go through the surveys answeriing the questions...well, people that care enough to provide feedback to the company they pay a monthly sub to in order to keep a space game enjoyable.
Surveys dont have be made up of hundreds of questions over onscure bug fixes....just the most basic questions over the most obvious changes that affect gameplay. |

So why say for each change/whatever if you only mean for a handful of the big ones? And what would this data actually tell anyone? Half the changes would still not affect half the players. Who cares what some empire bear things about dread changes, or what some WH guy things about sov mechanics? |

While I think surveys are a good idea in general, I don't think it should be line-item patch day surveys.
A.) The CSM provides excellent feedback to CCP. B.) People always whine, *****, and moan on patch day about this change or that change, and really any survey taken before they have a chance to "get used to it" and actually see the purpose of the change is mostly meaningless. In other words, I think people are generally biased negative anytime something changes the way they play the game, even if its very much for the better.
Perhaps this should be a CSM project. Every quarter or biannually, they release a "survey" for people to reply to. |
