CCP has made it clear that they will be moving all boosters outside the POS shields, and possibly on grid. My idea is to make it so the Rorqual is able to be used on grid in null/low belts.
As it stands now the Rorqual is only used for ore compression inside the POS shield. This is because as a Capital Industrial Ship it would make little sense to give it any form of truly offensive weaponry, and as such it currently has enough defensive firepower (drones) and tank to fend off belt rats. The ship currently has no place anywhere outside of a POS shield because of it's horrendous defense, and its complete immobility while the Industrial Core is activated.
I would recommend giving the Rorqual what amounts to a miniature POS shield when deployed. Shield diameter would be small and would disallow entry of any non industrial ships (similar to the Rorq's ship maintenance bay).
example:
Industrial Core I Max Velocity Bonus = -100 % Shield Radius = 7.5km Activation time / duration = 300 s Tech Level = 1 Consumption Type = Heavy Water Consumption Quantity = 1,000 Consumption Type = Strontium Clathrates Consumption Quantity = 250 Disallow Activation In Warp = 1 Jump Delay Duration=60 s Max Group Fitted = 1 powergrid usage = 150,000 MW (increased by 25,000 MW) CPU usage = 100 tf Max Locked Targets = 3 Shield Boost Bonus = 100% Shield Boost Duration Bonus = -50%
This addition of a shield would require that the Module not consume fuel until the deployment animation was finished. Total shield amount could either be flat total, or variable based on Industrial Reconfiguration level. I would suggest 7m flat or 5-8 variable. You can add stront to your fuel bay to run a reinforce for 15-30min, and once reinforced you can't add stront to the fuel bay. Then the moment a rorqual is forced into reinforced mode, it will remain present in space for the duration of that timer. It cannot leave deployed mode once reinforced till the timer expires.
Any industrial ships inside of the shield would be unable to lock targets, preventing entire mining ops from being run from the safety of the shield. Rorqual would retain reduced lock capability so it could continue to offer remote reps and utilize its Capital Tractor Beam(s)
To me this seems to be a good change for the Rorqual. I tried to look at previous discussions and work in most of the better ideas I read.

I feel that giving the rorq a mobile POS style shield is just taking the problem it had before and moving it with it.
The one thing that would make the rorqual 10x more usable and be a major step on the right path, would be the seperation of boosts from the indy core.
Personally i think also adding an EWAR immunity similar to supers (or at least +2 warp core strength) would allow it to be used much more often in less secure areas. |

Excellent. I've always wanted to have an almost invulnerable mobile POS to hide in during combat and make gang/fleet fights tedious as hell.
You started good OP... but then you forgot that other people play differently and will use your idea in ways that would be abused.
I support the Rorqual getting buffed to at least be on par with a carrier... just not in this way. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

Helps when you fully read the post before you bash it.

Out of all the ideas I've seen so far this is the only one I've seen that might encourage people to bring them on grid.

Full Ewar Immunity and +1 warp core strength per level of Capital Industrial sounds good to me |

Have you not heard of battlebadgers or combat industrials? Hell, I routinely solo assault frigates and destroyers using a helios. And don't get me started on the combat potential of mining barges and exhumers.
Granted, these wont be common issues to cope with. In truth, I'd simply give the rorqual the ability to cloak while sieged. All links and active modules shut down when it does, but it would allow it to be on grid of a belt and "get safe" if hostiles came into system. It would also create some interesting "tense" moments while people try to find that rorqual that was on grid! |

Wouldn't need both - normal points wouldn't hold it and HICs have infini point. |

EWAR immunity sounds like an alluring band-aid. Either a hictor or back to bump the rorq until the disruptbubbles go online :3 Now actively requesting any faction / new faction willing to produce these:-áhttp://eohgames.com/labs/Ships/Vanir%20Federation%20Talos-á |

I could at least jump out if it comes down bumping |
