i have been playing for a few days now on the trial account and i made up my mind tonight i am subscribing now i have a few questions. that is making isk mining in my venture doesnt seem to add up very fast so i assume i am doing something wrong +im lost as to how to find where bigger mining vessels are available their possible cost and thecost of outfitting them so atleast i know what amount of isk i need and double or triple it incase i get killed.
also what does it mean when you see a person with a yellow or red square next their name? |

Mining is very low income, no matter what you're mining in.
Upgrade from the Venture are the Mining Barges. Procurer and Retriever are the two you probably want to look at, depending whether you want a better tank or a larger ore hold. |

I would agree with Elena Thiesant, Mining is low income. I normaly mine when i'm cooking tea or getting ready for work in the morning.
IMHO mission running is the way forward.
Yellow and Red squares are the indiviuals security status, for more information.

The venture is the basic/starter mining vessel. Working towards something like the retriever and you're looking at around 20m for the ship and then around 10m for the modules.

If you're having fun mining, then go for it. Check out local trade hubs (especially Jita 4-4) for prices on new mining ships and send out a search on google for mining guides as there are tons of information out there.
The more experienced and skilled you get in the game the more isk you'll make no matter what you're doing. IMO the order for making isk is: mining, pvp, pve, industry and finance. Where pvp fits in is questionable, I'm not exactly sure how much on average is made due to the high demand for replacement ships.

Personally, I like getting other people to mine for me. It's amazing how many folks will eject perfectly good ore from their ships. All you have to do is fly in and pick it up!
On a serious note, if you find mining to be boring...try something else. Don't feel restrained by the mechanics of the game. If you've got one of those smooth, trustworthy voices, try a corp heist. Failing that, join a corp, blow up a few of their ships (concord doesn't get involved in corpie on corpie violence), then charge em a chunk of ISK to make you go away.
All sorts of ways to get rich in EVE, just use your imagination. Don't worry miners, I'm here to help!

..Just to clarify what Rykker said, his list of or of making ISK is listed as worst to best. Mining being the worst and finance being the best.
Also, yes. The more experience you get in game the more ISK you will make. Only bad thing is every activity besides mining can be multiplied by a great extent.
I firmly believe that no one enjoys mining, so that excuse will be ignored. My suggestion is to look up all 3 Battle Cruisers for all 4 races and pick out which one you want to pilot in 2-3 months. Then start a skill plan focused on that race's combat strengths. I.E. you like the Drake Battle Cruiser? Start skilling for missile and shield skills. You like the Harbinger? Start skilling for laser and armor skills.
Now get into a Frigate of whichever race you've chosen and start doing Lv 1 missions. You will get some experience behind the wheel, start making some ISK, and your skills that you are focusing towards will benefit you in PvP later on down the road.
Or you can completely flip all conventions and dive head first into some of the more "emergent" game play.
OP, if that sounds interesting, shoot me an EveMail. I'll be more then happy to show you a thing or two. |

I don't see that anyone answered your question.
Mining is the backbone of the EvE economy it's slow but steady income for dedicated people who like life at a slower pace. A Retriever will help your ISK per hour because the increased ore capacity and mining yields will limit the amount of time you are running back and forth to a station.
Retrievers run in 20-30 Million ISK range. Basic strip miners are fairly cheap. The cost of the rest of the build is negligible. If you did the Sister's Epic Arc Quest line you should be in the 20 Million ISK range. Once you have a Retriever and some skills you should be able to make about 5-10 Million ISK per hour. While that is not great money, if you remain in high sec and keep your ship blasting rocks as much as possible, the ISK adds up. Mining is all about discipline and sticking to it. Its about staying focused, relaxing and paying attention to what you are shooting at. Give it a solid go for a week. You should be over 200 Million ISK.
Personally I hate mining, but I understand its all about keeping your ship in space, on a belt, blasting as many rocks as you can. There are plenty of people who grind out over 50 Million ISK a day. Its mind numbing and boring, but its honest work, that pays you for dedication and drive more than your daring and courage.

Or high-end pewpew PVE (incursions, wormholes).
Regardless, mining is sort of the grunt work for the industry side of the game. If your interests lie more in that area, then look into manufacturing, PI and stuff like that |

Missions yield better ISK and don't cripple your skill plan. Almost every skill you train in becoming a mission runner will be utilized for other areas of Eve.

Depends on what you define pvp as...... there are many forms of pvp in eve with the obvious being ship to ship combat.

If you still on tryal account, you can 1. abandon your current account, 2. create new one using the best offer from local buddy programs. 3. use up to 450 mio isk you will get from some of them to get all and any ships you can fly , so you can try out all ways how to make isk. 4. Stick with mining, missioning, trade, faction war - what ever you will find most entertaining for you. Just ignore exploration - it is killed as ISK making option by one of the last game updates... |

This is an important part of Eve Online, while being a sandbox, the powers that be are fiddling with our toys now and then and Eve players are very good at finding ways to (ab)use every process to their own gain ;)

So my name is no one then ;)
To be honest its pretty cool to get a belt full of very nice big ore, start mining from left to right and clear all the belt. Mining OPS (mining with a group of players) is also very nice if you like to talk some to your in game friends about eve and other things. And then ofcourse the laser show (the only good laser in Eve is a mining laser ;) ) Also if you come in a new corp or feel like chatting on channels, mining is the best option, you got enouf time to chat while mining!
So mining is cool, if you do it only for making isk as fast if you can it is not the best option. Just think for yourself, what do i like to do in this game? Please remember to do only the things you realy like, that way you get the most out of this game.
Good luck in game! (the max high sec miner ship, exhumer is the name of the hull and "HULK" is the ship. Awsome ship with 3 big ass mining strippers who will get that ore faster in your ship then everything els :) Remember to ask someone in your corp or a friend to refine the ore with the right skills, that way you get the maximum minirals out of your ore.

If you play solo, mining is boring as hell. It's so passive your eyelids will be hugging your kneecaps after a week or two.
At least missionrunning (when your trying to get to your first level 4's) is somewhat more engaging.

I think that no matter what you chose as your "making isk" activity it will get better when your skills get better. Neither mining nor missions are profitable when you don't have skills to use and/or get max out of your equipment.
But it gets better. You get 1% here, 2% there, you upgrade to t2 damage mod, you can fly faster, hit harder, rep better. With time you get very close to 100% of what is possible to get from ship and mods. But it takes time to get there and we are taking months or even years (assuming getting to V all supports for everything you fly and use to make isk).
I remember when I run my first L4 mission and I was like "whaaat? 1.5 mil bonus? and 4.5k LP? wow!". It took me almost 2hrs to finish that mission. Smash The Supplier when I got it first time took me almost 5 hrs. Now? I farm this mission by killing everything and cleaning wrecks with noctis under 1 hour and that is approx 40mil in tags alone. Another mission like that is In The Midst Of Deadspace 5. First time it was a drag because of ECM (which in fact is applied only by 2 cruisers and can be dealt with within 2 minutes). Now? It is 20 minutes killing everything and 10 minutes of noctis cleaning wrecks - also 40+ mil from tags. So each of those two missions nets me around 250 - 300 mil (depending on current prices) and all I have to do is just log in for 1 hour 7 days in a row.
My alt is just getting into mining. Retriever with basic stuff and skills = 3-4mil per hour (hisec, drilling azure plegio because I have no idea WTF is going on). For a newbie maybe it is a lot but I can get more from running 10 minutes L4. Hell, blitz through Recon 1-3 in 5 minutes would give me more without single shot. Now, I have t2 lazors and crystals and mining upgrades and I just had quick mining session when I filled up my ore hold to max within 25 minutes (I timed it from undock to dock) and sold it for 3.2 mil. Still pennies comparing to L4s but there is progress.
"Problem" with mining is that there is a limit when you just can't get more without others. Either you have to join corp's fleets and use their boosts or get to better ore (meaning leaving hisec for low/null) or play market really smart or everything above. And probably you still won't get ISK/hr like L4 runners can, maybe except that market pvp because people claim to get huge profits. But again, your skills AND experience are heavily factored into what you can get out of trading regardless of items you buy/sell.
My advice would be to try everything and see what is to your liking. It is a game after all, try to get some fun first. I am not my skills but... http://eveboard.com/pilot/Schmata_Bastanold |

at best, with good skills, mining in a fleet and selling the ore\refined minerals at a good rate you're still only going to be looking at 30mil an hour. If you put those skills into making things explode or into logi you could run incursions for double that in about the same amount of time. Mining, although easy and not requiring much attention is terrible income, as it should be.
Think of eve this way "you can have two of the following three. easy, safe, profitable" if you manage to find something that's all three, then milk it until others discover it. |

Getting into a mission with someone running lvl4's is the best way to make isk early on. Check out helpmymission channel for help in the meanwhile, or feel free to convo or mail me in game. Keep in mind that it is 30M an hour you get for next to no effort while having fun on your second character that your semi-afk miner is paying for.
Whether it's ice or ore, you will end up with plenty of ISKies to fund your characters and your PVP habit. Or whatever else tickles your fancy. Just make sure you have your sound on and the alarms set at a level that will give you time to alt-tab to your miner and get things sorted if an unfortunate situation is developing.
