What a phony aim "assist" system... Why put this on DUST 514? the computer aim's for the player on a FPS game? This isn't in the spirit of New Eden where we Coddle a bunch of casual CoD players into the galaxy...

While ithat's not the DUST forum... I agree. I guess it has to do with the game beeing on consoles (in my optinion CCP's biggest mistake)... playing FPS with a controller has never been ideal, and that's their way to compensate?
Love the second trailer, though... especially the hangar bit. "ginger forum goddess, space gypsy and stone nibbler extraordinaire!" Shalua Rui - CEO and founder of Rui Freelance Mining (RFLM)

They talk about Why aim assist fad is bad.

Its EVE's success that birthed DUST. New Eden is a harsh galaxy and what is being done there seems to be squandering what players have built here. For?

Microtransactions... I guess. DUST was quite an investment, so CCP has to make it work for the masses... I know, it's no falttering reason, but there you have it.

The control in dust is bad. Even with mouse and keyboard, the always-on mouse acceleration makes it sluggish and unresponsive.
Hardly a surprise they added aim assist, but what was really needed is a 'pointer acceleration' switch in options. |

Nope you dont train for it , actually not a bad idea ...lol I have to take my hat off to CCP, they are grinding ahead at a slow pace but with every build the game becomes more shiny and exciting bit by bit.
If there was two aspects on my wish list for the Winter expansion (summer for us ) it would be "Deep Space " on the Eve side and Poco implementation on the Dust side ...one can only wish |

Game needed aim assist. Makes it so that there's less super-speedy strafing and more thinking involved.
Of course, the players always seem to foam at the mouth and have a brain aneurism when you mention the word "cover" in a first person shooter.. Never understood why. |

Because they don't want dark, boring, reality - they want bunnyhopping to make them invulnerable with their glorious Charge of the Light Brigade tactics.

Don't have to be awful at an FPS to shake your head at the implausibility of an Amarrian donning hundreds of pounds of Tungsten Carbide (or what I can assume to be Tungsten Carbide) and a hundred pound heavy machine gun just to do a strafe dance. |

You do have to be awful at FPS games to desire/justify/speak fondly of any method that takes control out of your hands. That article about cod players is spot-on. DUST does not seem to be going the way of the 'compressed skill gap', thankfully. I still can't play it because it honestly feels as though I am swinging the mouse through sand when I aim. This Aim-assist is not a good thing. |

Well, it seems to have it's place if implemented well... and not just on console games.
WOT has an auto aim feature that works well for somethings (and is not infallible), but there are other times when it is to your advantage not to use it at all. It won't aim for the more vulnerable points on your target, lead a fast moving target, and (especially in fast paced in your face situations) does not perform as well as a skilled player with good reflexes and knowledge of their target.
Knowing when to use it (and putting more of your attention on your own maneuvering) and when not to is a skill in and of itself... so we'll have to see how this ends up being done in DUST after they've had a chance to play with things a bit. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

I might be awful at fps games but I play with kb/m and aim assist is control pad only I think. I'm still happy for it. It changes the dinamics of the fights to a more tactic-oriented direction which is good. |

Pro tip: there's an entire Dust 514 forum on the Eve-O forums for you to complain on, and better yet, Dust 514 has its own entire set of forums for you to complain in. Why are you posting this in Eve's general discussion? Step onto the battlefield, and you're already dead, born again at the end of the battle to live on and fight another day.

Sticky aim is needed for controller support. Dust controller users are already at a huge disadvantage when it comes to aiming thanks to KB&M being used. |
