Good day! My question is to CCP. I play for trader now, station trading. Where are many trader tools for EVE but i want make another one. Every time i rebid orders i must make decision about price. Almost every time is plus / minus 0.01 ISK to price. Also i use Export button for analysis of prices. I have an idea of small software what monitor file system for export market files. As file arrived software parse it and calculate price as top or bottom price +/- 0.01 ISK then it place new price to clipboard and i ctr-v it in EVE. I want to know how legal this software will be? Software will be open source (if it legal). |

This doesn't sound to problematic. Parsing market data is perfectly legal, so is copypasting some text back into the client. As long as you don't mess with the client itself (for instance, letting a bot do all that clicking for you) it's entirely legal to analyze some data using your own PHP script or whatever, paste the result into an in-game note, and change prices on the market accordingly by hand. |

Your best bet would be to file a support ticket to get an official reply from a GM. http://community.eveonline.com/support/support-tickets/
It's no good listening to the community on this one purely for the fact that only a GM or DEV will know for sure. And while yes, there are others out there that have done something similar, your version might differ from them in a way that could possibly get you banned. Always better to ask the company first in my opinion. Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person." |

You're right in the grey area that is now cache scraping. Strictly speaking it's against the rules (and I imagine you'll be told such, so the literal answer CCP give might be misleading) but they've also said they don't see it as problematic and won't ban you for it.
As long as NONE of your input into the client is automated in any way, you escape the way in which CCP chose to enforce the rule, even though you're against the letter of the rules.
It's not ideal and CCP are looking at exposing market data in some other way to solve this issue. "Do not touch anything unnecessarily. As others said, your best bet is to ask a GM. However, people automate the game far more than this on a regular basis. In general, it seems like the GMs allow it as long as it requires someone to be at the keyboard to do it (so, a program that automatically updated market orders would not be allowed, but one that allowed you to click less when doing it manually will probably be fine) |

Market exports are not cache scraping. There is no issue with the OP's idea, unless something dodgey is done along the lines of automating the search and export of market data.

Quote:I have an idea of small software what monitor file system for export market files Yes, the way the OP is doing it is cache scraping, much like Evemon's market tool which does the same thing (or GSFs own internal tools based on the same idea).
