so i was at a gate camp awhile back when a guy started stealth bombing at reds jumping thru a gate we asked him why he was doing that and he said it was because it decloaks reds and slows them alittle before they take off
unfortunately our friendly hauler full of warp disrupt bubles came by to anchor and got crossed in one of his bombing attempts at reds it took us targeting him to get him to leave wich leds me to my idea!!!!!!
why not a stasis bomb for stealth bombers it could slow reds down to nothing and decloak them for atleast 3 sec's!!!!! With lord Xanex by my side I can do anything (Atleast with a smile)-á!!!! |

Well the void bomb is already pretty effective at turning off prop mods so I don't think there is any real need for a "stasis web" bomb.
The idea of a "decloak" bomb is interesting but unless you know almost exactly where to fire it it won't help much. And forcing people out of gate cloak is a something of a no no. |

By "slow reds down" are you implying that the untargeted, no lock, fire and forget, AoE damage to *anything in blast radius* should gain the ability to detect and selectively "miss" friendlies?
Aside from the initial "No, this is a drastic departure from how a 'bomb' should (and does) work." I'll add the following. Bomb damage (alone) doesn't, and hasn't decloaked a cloaked ship. What your friend probably witnessed and mis-attributed to the bomb damage was the bomb itself coming within 2000m of the cloaked vessel; Thereby invoking the game rule of anything uncloaked within 2000m of a cloaked vessel(s) will decloak said vessel(s). Even the smartest of bombs, in RL, cannot avoid things in "the wrong place at the wrong time" as you are suggesting these do. This mechanic would make gate camps even sillier than they already are with instalocking BCs etc because then all it takes is a couple friendly camping bombers to drop a few of these on the gate when a hostile (I presume and I'll get to reasons why next) jumps the gate.
Which brings me to the point about "hostiles" or reds. Currently there are two prevailing aggression policies in 0.0. NRDS and NBSI. The standings in EVE are a pain to manage across coalitions, seemingly, as every intel channel I've ever spent time in with more than one alliance involved invariably has the "+1 neut.......he's blue to me" conversation once a day at least. This means that the only thing this bomb would be good for is in a NRDS situation as the bomber would only ever aggress a known hostile "Red" (-10 standings) pilot. This is a pretty small part of 0.0 that functions in this manner. Then we get to the -5 standing....Does the bomb not affect "Orange" pilots? Seems that in a hostile gate camp situation "Orange" pilots would also be targets. So now the bomb is not just "Red" but "Orange" affecting as well. There goes NRDS. What about neutral pilots? Gate Camps are designed to deny transit through an area by all "non-friendly" pilots. This bomb, as you've outlined, cannot be used against neutrals.
To add further headache to this "smart" stassis bomb - what standings are used and in what priority? This is an awful lot of server work to figure out standings for a AoE weapon based on something as temporary and fluid as personal, corp, alliance (and figuratively) coalition standings.
This response became longer the more I thought about the holes and gaps in the process. Hopefully you realize that it's constructive and not meant as a flame. Clone mechanics enchancements Deep Space Probe Revival |
