I would have posted this in the Alliance section, but seeing as how I can't now that I'm not in an alliance anymore....
Anyone know why the New Eden Research. alliance kicked all its members out today? There was no forewarning. We were dec'ed at the time, but it's not the first war the alliance has been through.
Wild speculation is encouraged. [/sarcasm] |

Did the CEO manage to seize everybody's assets, BPO's and ISK? I'm betting it's related to that. |

Usually that means they shared their password with someone else or left the account logged in, then going away and someone else accesses their account. Or they gave their accountname/password to some random websites. Or they installed a keylogger that sent their details to bad people. You know, anything but actual hacking. Ask them. Yes, that was the first thing I did. Others have done the same, we havn't heard anything back yet.
Gianath wrote:Did the CEO manage to seize everybody's assets, BPO's and ISK? I'm betting it's related to that. Due to the way research alliances are set up, the vast majority of BPOs are not accessible from other corps. The alliance didn't charge very high dues, so I can't imagine there was more than a few hundred million in the alliance wallet.

Just to state the obvious there is no significant isk loss as a result this. No Bpo's can be stolen, no huge alliance wallet to be got. It is an inconvenience however but nothing more. |

it's an alliance with one or more deathstar POS setup for alliance research use. I imagine that most (all?) of the corps contained therein are 1-man altcorps ...
I'm betting they're left more or less alone because they're smart enough to keep their mouths closed (i.e. not making themselves a target). One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia |

Problem with that is that POS's are corp specific, you can't share with the alliance. So again, advertising yourself as a 'Research Alliance' is both a bad idea (paints a bullseye) and pointless. 1 man corps owning POS's is really dumb. |

You can set up a POS so that alliance members can use the labs for ME and PE research, providing that research doesn't need anything in the lab hangers. Can't share copy or invention though.
Way it works is BPOs stay in your corp hanger (in station), research is done in POS owned by another corp in the alliance. |

I do feel sorry for those who have lost this service and can advise that I hear that an Alliance that will be offering this service in mid December 2013 , you would have to contact Gotchaback for either the use of labs or offering your labs to others
That is all

I will be able to start in approx. three weeks around the 15th dec. Anyone wishing this please mail as I will be away till then and will start off slow limiting it to first 20 corps.

Alliances providing research services are valuable. I used One Stop Research until the G00Ns griefed them out of existence. SJ Astralana = Danari = Alak D'bor. I don't fuss about which account/toon is logged in, nor do I hide behind alts. |

Setsune Rin wrote:enlighten me here....whats the point of a research alliance apart from making yourself a nice juicy target? If you've ever done research, you would understand the point. Sure you could risk your BPO's going to a .01 system where there MIGHT be some slots available for research that are LESS than a month away. Sure you could install your BPO's for Research at a High Sec Lab and pay the outrageous fees plus wait for 2 to 3 months JUST for your research to begin (which might take another 2 to 3 months to get your desired ME) OR instead of all that, you join a research alliance. Years ago I was part of ZZZ, they pioneered this kind of stuff. You pay the alliance dues, and they give you access to research labs they have anchored in High Sec moons. Usually the Install fees were MUCH higher, but the daily fee is MUCH less, so it works out for long research projects to cost less than your average Government Run Lab. More importantly however is that they usually had more research slots available than are actually in use, so if you want to start a research project right away on a new BPO that just came out (like the new Mobile Tractor Unit), you're ready to go! The way that it works is that you place your BPO in one of your own Corporate Hangars in a nearby Station, right click on it and select let's just say "Material Research". When the window pops up, you click on Select "Pick Installation" and choose the Research Facility being operated by the Alliance in that Solar System. Because the BPO never actually leaves your own Corporate Hangar, someone outside your corp can't actually steal it, so if you get kicked out of the Alliance, the only thing that happens is that your BPO drops back into your Corporate Hangar, with the research cycle incomplete. |
