1) Cut the high slots back to 1, refactor the output of strip miners (and gas harvestors) to be the same.
2) Create a barge specfic version of gas harvestors (may need to refactor Venture role bonus).
3) Give Barges (and Venture) a charge bay for crystals and cut the standard cargo capacity back to 50m3.
4) Give Covetors/Hulks a larger drone bay, with a mining yield, drone speed, and drone range bonus (as well as a higher targeting range) - this will keep let them keep their crown as the best miners (with extra drone skill training).
5) The Hulk should be able to carry a full set of mining drones, salvage drones, and medium combat drones (100m3+); with the Hulk possibly turning into a sentry drone platform (100 mBit/s is about right, 125 mBits is probably too much). l8r \o/ |

Ok the problem I have with this post is:
1. Why?
2. I think the same way actually. So I agree there.
3. Why? I thought that's what the normal cargo hold was for anyway.
4. They are still on top with their respective mining yields why?
5. Trust me, you don't want to see 10 hulks with sentries all assisted to a Rifter in null sec... Not to mention you can tank a triple battleship spawn with a properly fitted hulk, so there is no reason you can't use a set of mining drones and light scouts with its already generous 50 m3 bay. So again why?
Usually when you are writing a post you list supporting points that buff up your argument(s). This also allows you to see the holes in your major points, and correct, or even flat out remove those points from your post if there is no reason to exist in your post in the first place. In short, why change something that has already been both balanced and accepted into game as a positive change.

Fine, I'm sold on the sentry drone hulk as a bad idea - unless you are on the recieving end of hot droppers in low/null sec.
Still, a drone speed, mining yield, and control range bonus (as well as a longer targeting range) is still a good thing for hulks.
Perhaps a modest 75m3 drone bay for the hulk ? The speed and mining yield bonus won't help Sentries.
As to the charge bay for crystals, that's just a suggestion to bring barges in line with the industrials - it can be ignored if they cut the high slots back to one (as a full set of 3 crystals won't fit for all ore types) - but CCP might only selectively adopt my suggestions. l8r \o/ |

While yes it would be nice to have the range, mining yield, and speed would be nice, mining drones have forever been looked at as a bonus to the barge's yield as is, so the possibility of that changing is pretty low. And as for the crystals, you aren't warping into a high sec belt to mine Arkonor or a null sec belt for Veldspar. So yea you do have to cut back a bit.
The whole 1 high slot thing is oversimplifying too much... But I do want a barge dedicated to gas mining. Maybe try making a separate post on that. |

I think CCP has sailed off with the "Give the Ice bonus back to the Mack" debate and the "My gas barge went Boom" can be stopped by fully training the skills.
I would like to see an ice command ship that can process the ice blocks in belt (how hard is it to melt and distill ice?).
As for Gas processing, it would be nice to have a Noctis tractor around a bunch of POS with reactors, but the debate on why a Silo needs so much CPU really should be a different topic. l8r \o/ |
