I think Dula weapons should us ethe appropriate ammo according. After all, they dont use single shot larger ammo.... they use a lot more smaller ammo. And yes, i know its a abstract representation in terms of ammo but still, its something id like to see changed. "Imagination is the key that unlocks the door." - ME |

Hey Orrin:)
Yes, I have always wondered how 250mm, 300mm - 400mm could use the same size ammo??
It would complicate the game to have all the different sizes but would open a new market for those specific sizes.

Howdy corm...
I think it wouldnt be overt to use smaller ammo for these large guns and have them eat 2 charges instead of 1. Damage coding might need to be reworked for em cause of the smaller ammo tyype but might be as simple as doubling the damage for 2. "Imagination is the key that unlocks the door." - ME |

I think it's more like a delivery system than actual ammo Your buying the charges that go in the ammo that's shot from the gun (mayb not?)..
But yea, I'd like to see dual's use 2 per shot, quads 4 per shot, so on so forth :P

Duals and quads are stupid, implemented as they are.
A Dual 150 should be a weapon a larger ship, IE a cruiser, mounts to show frigates why they're frigates and not cruisers. It should use two small hybrid charges, not a single medium charge, and it should not be a weapon with which to attack cruisers.
It should be a choice between an anti-frigate gun times two, and a single cruiser gun. My Sunday Indy |

There is a way, I think... One thing I've always noticed on the info boxes is a data point that says "charge rate" or something.... it means, how many ammo units are used per shot. All guns have a "1" for this, as it stands. So, if there's already a data segment for this... shouldn't be too hard, should it?
Also, another thing I would like to see (or rather, hear) on this subject... I want my Dual 150mm Rails to sound like a very loud 150mm railgun... those sound awesome, but the Dual 150's sound dull, in my opinion. Would be nice....

Yes and then BS would fit a full rack of quad-weapons and have nothing to fear from frigates or cruisers. In real life capital ships still need escorts despite having secondary batteries.

But the BS with a full rack of quad weapons would get ripped to peices by a BS with heavy weapons.
Of course the damage/rof/tracking speed etc on the dual/quad weapons would need to be tuned carefully. I think the idea is good though.

Can you say Aegis cruiser? or Dido cruiser? both "real" world war tested ships whose sole designated purpose is to provide anti air coverage for a fleet of ships.
If a bs or a cruiser decided to mount a majority of anti frig weaponry then should frigates not be worried? Of course the downside of this armamanet is the sacrifce of firepower against larger ships.

just to interject some data into this thread: All examples are from quickfit, modules mounted on a moa (going from memory but its acurate enough to serve a pourpose)
T2 150mm rail: 27km range, .07 rads/sec tracking 3.96 damage mod 1.987 cap
T2 dual 150mm rail: 41Km range, .04 rads/sec tracking 2.96 damage mod 2.987 cap
T2 250mm rail: 83Km range, .028 rads/sec tracking 3.795 damage mod 5.95 cap
(these are as fitted with my skills) a few things are apparent, 1. there is no logical reason for the range to increase but it does. 2. why does the tracking get borked? its just two small weapons in one large hardpoint. 3. why is it cheaper cap-wise to operate two of these than it is to operate one? 4. why do they use medium ammo? 5. If I shoot medium ammo out of a 150mm rail, will it bork my tracking and increase my range?
In the end it boils down to, right now its a useless module. And has been for quite some time. Apparently mounting a "pair" of 150mm guns in one medium slot upsets the balance of our fictional reality.
