I just got my first VIP rescue mission from my lvl 2 agent, this actually went fine, VIPs returned and mission completed. Immediately after this mission my agent gave me exactly the same mission again, however this time no VIPs were dropped, I warped off after clearing the containers, waited a few mins for them to respawn and came back, killed them all again yet still no VIPs. Had a look at the markets in a few regions to see if I could buy them and complete it that way but alas they seem to be a tricky item to find. There goes my stretch of 38 complete with 0 failures
For reference the agent was:
Ruonio Sutenela of Ytiri Corp based at Uemisaisen VIII - Moon 10 - Ytiri Storage. The mission was to a bookmark in the Kino system.

Had the same thing happen to me last night.
First time, no VIP's so I docked at a station went back to location, killed them again no VIP's dropped. Tried 15 times! and still no VIP's
Like you say you can't buy VIP's for love nor money

Yep, it's still bugged and I was told by some GM that the fix should be out in the upcoming patch.

Edited by: Bhal'rog on 28/08/2003 20:21:07 That's interesting, I thought I was blowing up my VIPs by accident. I was going to use a pea shooter for the coup de grace next time I get one of those missions and see if it helps. *shrugs*

All NPC kill missions tend to have this problem, but the agent system's degenerate architecture has made it impossible for me even to squeeze out the slightest tidbit of info required to debug this. This is pretty much the closest we've gotten so far to analyzing the problem; it does indeed seem highly related to the agent giving you the same mission twice in a row.
If it's fixed in the next patch, well, I for one haven't heard anything to indicate that, and the programmer that does the actual NPC loot dropping hasn't heard anything to indicate that either.
I'm doing some major code cleanup related to the "make agent's standing driven" and the "scripted agent missions" goals, which I'm expecting will also make this type of problem be diagnosable in the future. I'm betting a 50% chance this bug we'll actually be fixed as a side effect of the cleanup, and a 90% chance I'll be able to get the info I need to fix it in the near future because of that cleanup.
That's really all I've got to offer at the moment in regards to this bug.

Edited by: Harliquin on 01/09/2003 19:36:22 Well I had the problem the first time he offered me the VIP mission (by first time I mean I had the VIP mission before but a long time ago...)

"This is pretty much the closest we've gotten so far to analyzing the problem; it does indeed seem highly related to the agent giving you the same mission twice in a row."
... Seems like it also happens the second (and possibly further times) the mission is taken, even if there was some other missions in-between.
I've tried to accept the VIP mission for the first time just recently, and after shooting 2 pirate drones the VIPs were dropped neatly packed in their container. Then some time later the mission popped up again, and having read this thread, i thought there might be a chance the mission works correctly (as i did some other missions for this agent since then)
Much to my surprise had to fight 4 pirate drones this time (first time it'd happen ever in agent missions) and after killing them, couldn't see the VIPs anywhere. Tried to re-warp to the spot but the drones wouldn't spawn again... so had to fail this one, eventually. :/

The drones will respawn if you dock J0sephine.
But alas that does not seem to help.
I was going to start a new thread about the workaround for this, but just bump this one.
I had similar results as you J0sephine. Did the mission early on with the lvl 2 guy, worked. Did it last night (some 20+ missions between) and no VIPs.
I put in a bug report and joined the help channel. I was told to put in an 'other' petition. I did and no one ever got back to me.
At this point I have a couple questions:
1) Will we be contacted in-game when filing petitions on this subject?
2) If no to 1 above. Is the 'workaround' wait three hours and fail the mission?
3) How easy would it be to put some VIPs on the market until the code is fixed?
The reason I ask is because last night, I was kinda ****ed. Our corp is operating some 40 hops away in 0.0 and I only get certain times to run missions. Encountering this problem last night was essentially the end of my night because it was beyond impractical to go join the corp for a bit and then return in 3 hours.
Maybe if you guys can't put VIPs on the market, give us a button to fail our current mission so we can at least not be stuck in limbo?

Edited by: Enderweeks on 05/09/2003 13:22:24 I've had this problem with not getting the 'drop' from several missions.
Having read what Papa Smurf said would it be useful to post the details about a mission when it fails and make it sticky?
It is possible that even with that detail it would be impossible to see a reason behind the failures but would be good to know if it is useful - Papa Smurf?
I also appreciate that a lot of pilots now ignore these missions but anyone who does suffer one by mistake could post - Agent name - Mission name - date & time - mission requirment.
As i have a couple of agents that i'm trying to force into 'promoting' me i'll happily accept any missions of this type just to add to the pot.

Edited by: Zyrla Bladestorm on 05/09/2003 17:27:23 the first time I had the VIP mission 2 pirates spawned, one had the VIp, mission complete, great, next time 4 pirates instead of 2 and none dropped the VIP = agent offline (bugreported at the time), I then went to my second level 2 agent, the first time this mission popped up it again had the 4 pirates and no VIp, second level 2 agent offline :/ the same then happened with my third and final level 2 agent :/ I haven't done mission since, about 6 weeks :( I'd agree putting VIP's on the market (supply only of course, so noone goes and takes them all to sell) at maybe 50k (the missions ususally pay that right?) would be a great help, since it lets us get our agents back to functional . ----- Apologys for any rambling that may have just occurred.

hmm cant the mission designers change the vip missions like this:
-you get a bookmark and should destroy the pirates there to free vips. -you jump to the bookmark. -then you destroy the pirates. -then a shuttle appears name = VIP Escape Shuttle (or so). -after 30secs the shuttle warps out of this bookmark position (to a X/Y position in space where noone can fly to and the shuttle explodes then)
or: -at the bookmark there are the pirate ships AND a VIP Shuttle. (vip shuttle not moving and pirates orbiting it) -when the shuttle is destroyed (i.e. with missiles that hit pirates near it) -when all pirate ships there are destroyed, you have freed the VIPs and they warp away (look above)
when you are at your agent again the game checks if the pirates are destroyed and the shuttle has warped out = miccion complete when shuttle is destroyed = mission fails ---------------------------------- some of my ideas: Very Long Balancing Suggestion !!! and My Ideas for EVE |

o.O this just happend to me, seeing as we can check what mission we are gonna get next...
do they time out out or change if you dont take them straight away?? and if so how long does it take to get a new mission....
seeing as it takes 3 hours to fail, and then how ever long to do more missions to get your standing back :/ |

Happened to me now, too. Got 2 pirate drones as usual, but both dropped only one crago - both VIP-less. Used only rails, there is no way I could have blown one cargo.

the mission wont fail, even after the 3 hour timer expires .. it just stays there (brakeing the agent in effect as far as further progress goes)
if you "abort" instead of accepting it you have to wait around an hour till you can take a different one (I've now had this mission 5 times in my last ~12 offered missions .. I guess my agent really wants me to take it .. but I'm not gonna risk it till I hear theres a way to complete it) . ----- Apologys for any rambling that may have just occurred.

Was "just" a failed mission with me. But as said, 1 had the usual 2 pirates, not 4. But no dropped VIP either way.

Edited by: Nelia Hawk on 12/09/2003 22:24:10 got that mission 7 days ago too. 2 pirates killed one looted the can then killed the other then and it appeared 2 cans (one loot, one vips)
perhaps the bug could be: you kill one pirate -> it drops loot then you kill the other -> he drops loot -> game checks if 2 cans are droped -> game sees 2 cans in space -> no can with vips added
but thats just a thought. havent tested it or whatever...
but perhaps someone could try to find it out, if it works with killing one -> looting can -> killing other -> 2 cans?!? ---------------------------------- some of my ideas: Very Long Balancing Suggestion !!! and My Ideas for EVE |

its a thought .. I cant do it mind since the bookmark dissapeared long ago during the "only one bookmark per system" bug :/ mind you there were always 4 pirates for me instead of 2 . ----- Apologys for any rambling that may have just occurred.

oh another memory from the original failure, about 15 mins into the "a case of kidnapping" #2(the one that broke) I also got a mail from my agent telling me I'd failed when I had over an hour left (I was 1 jump from the location at the time) it never left my journal though, even to this day . ----- Apologys for any rambling that may have just occurred.

Nope, that's not it, from the 3 VIP missions I made 1 had this bug I mentioned and the other 2 had no problems. And there I just shot both rats first and collected their loot later.
