I'm after a bit of advice - namely what BC to go for.
I've had a Ferox in the past, and was fitted with 5*250 Coil rails, and now I'm in the market for a BC again I find I'm torn between these 2.
So for missions and ratting any suggestions?

prophercy can do 0.0 ratting and im currently doing lvl 3 missions with it atm
with my gunnery skills though i find it hard to kill rats over 1m, anything lower is do able, but my gunnery skills suck ;D

I've used both and they are very good ships when you have good skills for them
if you have better skills for using shields go for a ferox, if better armour skills get a prophecy. I prefer the ferox as its the more versatile of the 2

Depends on a few things. What type of rats you planning on fighting and can you easily get re-supplied with ammo?
I use both ships, mostly for PvP but I use the Ferox for ratting as using heavy launchers makes the job real easy (the tank on either is not an issue where I rat)
The ferox is easy for ratting with heavy launchers and all damage types available through standard ammo. Heavy missiles are great for NPCing - You only have to worry about max range and ammo type then lock and fire. Good damage too - better than my prophecy with my skills.
The prophecy doesn't need a constant re-supply of ammo so if this is an issue use it. Also for deadspace missions where you might take an unavoidable kicking off the NPC's I find the prophecy tougher with a better potential tank on it than the Ferox.
I would just get both and you will probably find they both suit different situations better.
Hope I have not just confused you even more

With t2 heavy pulses on mine I've used my prophecy to hunt gurista and serpentis BS in 0.0. Sansha and Blood Raiders would be even easier I think.

I've got a great Proph setup for ratting in 0.0:
5x Heavy Pulse Lasers / Multifreq (Carry Standard/Radio, too) 1x Medium Nos
1x 10mnMWD 2x Webbie
1x Med Rep 1x Heat Sink 2x Power Diagnostic System 2x Energized Adaptive Nano
It's a good ship. Cheap and effective.
Just target 'em, rush 'em, web 'em (double web if they're a fast frig), and pour on the hurt.
You'll know pretty quick if you can tank it or not, and you generally don't have to tank things long with this build. Hit and run if you have to, and since you're practically sitting on top of the can already when you pop 'em, you can loot and scoot if you need to.

If its mission grinding i would go for the ferox, always. Nothing makes it easyer to do missions with missils and passive tank, and the ferox is good at both :D
Warp in - attack all - make BM - get lot later with fast ship
The only downside is that it gets boring after some time...but it is still much better than getting bored and still having to get in optimal range with a slow ship, and maybe having to warp inn and out some times...Do missions faster = more money -------------------------------------------------

All the BCs are good.
Ferox / Cyclone : Missions and PvP and limited 0.0 NPC
Prophecy / Bruitix : PvP and Mining
Prophecy : Sansha/Blood bloodbathing

What makes the Prophecy better at PvP than the Ferox? I was thinking the Ferox could start sniping then switch to AM ammo and firing off heavy missiles to do more damage once someone gets closer.

Missiles never miss, Lasers need gunnery skills just like any turret to work well, if you are new to the game and don't have major gunney skills, missiles for the win.

Let's say someone like me is more into guns. Why would a Prophecy be better at PvP? Is it because it can have more turrets fitted? A ferox could snipe with certain ammo and when the Prophecy comes closer, it could unleash 2 heavy missiles or light (depending on assault or heavy missile launcher) for some burst damage as well as change the ammo to AM to do more damage at a closer range.
Better question that is a little less general. Which would perform better in gang PvP?

A rail ferox is actually damn awesome, only lazy people use missiles. Both need gunnary skills, but a proph is more suited to close range imho where as a ferox (with rails) is a good long range sniper. Its really personal choice, i just like my combat close and personal
A ferox is also more versitile, you can fit missiles or guns, you can e/war, you can passively tank, a proph suffers from the age old problem of being completely useless if someone has tracking disruptors fitted.
