So over on the DUST forums CCP FoxFour has posted some of our plans for changes to the Faction Contracts that tie into Factional Warfare. While primarily the changes are on the DUST side, as Factional Contracts also have an impact on system control in EVE Factional Warfare. It's comprised of several posts and I recommend you start with the intro post which is here: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=116188
There's one particular section that's relevant for EVE Capsuleers; I've it quoted below.
CCP FoxFour wrote:Orbital Strikes You know all those Warbarge strikes that you love to use? Well we will be removing them from factional contract matches. The only way to get orbital support in Factional Contracts will be through a starship strike (which I hope to rename) provided by an EVE player. There are other changes we plan to make as well such as having it be the EVE player that earns the orbital strike by capturing a beacon above the district, having the EVE player get LP and a kill report in EVE for providing the orbital strike, and having a battle browser of some kind in EVE so EVE factional warfare pilots can find DUST matches to provide these orbital strikes to. Also we want to look at letting the EVE pilot join the team voice channel to help coordinate the strike. :D
What this means is that in Factional Contract matches you could be the losing team on the ground, but winning the space fight and have a real advantage. It hopefully means in the end more dynamic and enjoyable fights.
These changes will not come at the same time as the rest of the Factional Contract changes, but should hopefully not be too far behind. CCP Logibro // EVE Universe Community Team // Distributor of Nanites

I asked on the Dust forums and didn't get a response:
Will my Alliance be able to bombard for my guys on the ground if my Alliance isn't enrolled in FW?
Considering the Dust mercs are supposed to be mercs and work for the highest bidder, it doesn't make sense that my entire Alliance must be enrolled in a specific militia to bombard for them... Want Dust514 district ownership to matter? Want to nuke someone's PI from orbit? Read here:

So, factional warfare is moving away from dust integration? It's about time, the interaction is sloppy and the effects in game would make the LP farmer situation a lot worse if Dust actually had any players that communicated with EVE. |
