I fly an Apocalypse (badly).
At the moment I use 8 medium charge lasers on it, and I'm very pleased with the results, and very pleased about how much more damage the lasers will do over time as I work towards getting Tech 2 lasers in.
However, it's a real hassle changing 8 laser crystals over. Is there a quicker way?

That's correct. I'm doing level 3 missions, they work very nicely. I could use mega beams (in 2 days when I have the skill!) but the tracking is terrible and so are my gunnery skills. 8 medium charge works well.

No quicker way.
But hey, at least you use lasers. Us other races have to wait 10 secs for each gun.
Also, I think you will find the tracking of the megapulses sufficient, provided you kill any frigates, first.

I haven't liked pulse lasers that I've used so far, was hoping to use beams for long range death.
Eventually I will move to mega/tachyon beam lasers. The apocalypse has 2 launcher slots, and I have some Arbalest assault missile launchers put aside for that purpose. I'm thinking they can deal with frigates, along with my drones, and I'll worry about taking out cruisers fast.
I only have 1.1mil SP though, so I have many many skills to train.
While I lack the missiles and decent drones, a good compromise is to stick with medium charge lasers.

Just practice and practice. I can change them very fast now since I've done it before under pressure and enemy fire.

I like Eve because it's not a clicky game....
But thankfully when I do eventually get T2 lasers there will be less switching - I'll just use the high damage ones the whole time :P

In the next Exspansion "Kali" they will probably be coming out with the long awaited feature to change all ammo types at the same time. ******************** Join Public Channel "Christian Public Access" for great fellowship and fun |

Not sure if your experiencing the bug that doesnt always load the crystals properly. This happens when crystals are unstacked in cargo for some reason. Each time you change them out stack the ones in your cargo hold afterwards. You can right click and change the whole lot out in about 5 seconds if your quick enough and no bugs. ---------------------------------------------- We can't all be heroes, because somebody has to sit on the curb and clap as they go by |

Aww. Part of the skill in a battle was being able to whizz your mouse around and switch crystals before your enemy can.

As already mentioned if you don't stack your crystals when you change to the unstacked type you have to wait for one new crystal to appear before changing the next, other wise you'll just move it, e.g. if I put right click to put an unstacked type in gun 1, but do the same on gun 2 before the crystal is fully loaded into gun 1, it will take the half loaded crystal in stick it in gun 2, leaving gun 1 withut any crystal fitted at all (However it thinks it is loaded with the unstacked crystal since it no longer appears as an option on the list, you need to change back to the old type then back to the new to fix this). It'd be nice to have an option that could be enabled to automatically stack all ammo when any is removed. Then all we need is an option to change the crystals of all guns at once to a certain type and we'll be sorted.

Edit: Duh, no one mentioned it except Glimmerman in the post just above.

That's exactely what it should NOT be like. Hopefully they add the 'switch all' soon. I have made a suggestion regarding this quite a while ago: Laser Frequency Crystals - Suggestion <hr>Forsch |

Just for information people :
Change your laser crystals as fast as you can, and when you've done it you can select reload all, and it'll fix any that haven't loaded correctly.
The reason why it happens is when you select to reload too soon the game is trying to load the same crystal into 2 guns.
If you want to avoid it completely, try using 4 & 4 crystals, and alternate the way you load them.
The other way is to load the crystal and left click to start firing, that seems to help a little too.
But I'm very pleased they'll be changing it so I can reload all my crystals at once - I don't want a time benefit, I just want to save my ragged wrists from RSI :)

Same method as me, just switch all ur crystals as fast as u can then have a shortcut for Reload All and the crystals that have "been used twice" will load correct and u got 8 nice crystals rdy.
Another method which is the old one: When u are firing deactivate 3-4 guns and start with gun 1 to switch to new crystal, wait 'till it loads and load gun 2. When u get closer to the guns that are still firing on the target deactivate 1-2 of them and work ur way to the 8.th gun.
With the last method u will continue doing damage with 50-75% of ur guns while changing crystals.
This is my lazy attempt to make an uber-signature, please go away!
