I'm putting it out there as to what people think would happen if you brought nullsec ores to high and virtually eradicated the current highsec ores in highsec.
As someone who would like to see changes made in the game that encourage and support lowsec and nullsec mining, it's an interesting concept that could work but could also have consequences well beyond what I can forsee.
1. Highsec miners who never want to leave highsec would have more to train for 2. Highsec miners can still profit from selling rare ores 3. Large portions of construction would now rely on mining in hostile environments, respectively pushing the need for support fleets and compensating for it in the market as a must. If a mining fleet now sells minerals at 4 isk/ unit, it would jump to 8 or more after the change. |

Opinions are like assholes. Everybody's got one and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks. |

What if I told you there are vast stores of ABC ore just one jump away from hisec at all times? Check out a low-class wormhole system with hisec static and chomp on the Arkonor out there. You'd be one jump from hisec at any given time while also mining in a (relatively) solitary environment. Until suddenly you're not solitary =)
Basically the changes to ore sites have the potential to really shake up mining if people get creative.

You have have a point with a few of the ore's, namely spodumain in particular. But that said I'd say most of the ore units are too big and would fail to give you the quantities you'd need for the current industry.
And new players aren't missing out as it's a role reverse, the smaller volume ores are readily available and the big ones with high volume aren't. Instead of selling normal minerals they are selling "rare" minerals for the "former normal" profits. |

That's one BIG IF, WH mining has a large number of variables to consider. Far more so then any other system in true sec.
Any miner who mines in a WH without immediate fleet support or with continuous scanners and pickets. Is: 1. An idiot
and
2. Gonna get blown up
The numbers aren't there for indi focus players to bother with them, just try getting that ore out for starters...

Asteroid swap, asteroid swap and more asteroid swapping and in the end the game will rebalance and everything will be the same, oh except we wasted a lot of development time fixing something that isnt broken thus stripping devs away from those things that are broken and need attention. Yawn,-á I'm right as usual. The predictability kinda gets boring really. |

It's really not that unfeasible. My corporation mines in wspace all the time, though we're mining gas up rather than ore and we also PvP. I have noted more dedicated mining corporations taking an interest in wspace after Odyssey, though. It wouldn't take too long to train mining fleets to watch dscan and bring Falcon "bail-out" support.
As for getting the ore out, Rorquals can compress ore from what I hear. I am also a human, straggling between the present world... and our future. I am a regulator, a coordinator, one who is meant to guide the way.

I actually posted this as a suggestion in the "one line bad ideas" thread.
The "interesting" idea is that because tritanium is used in extremely large quantities, it'd sort of mandate an import-from-nullsec mentality, with the idea being that the cost of the standard of living in high sec would go up, and nullsec could become enormous bastions of production.
That said, it's not an idea you just "do". I mean, okay, extensively it is, but I don't even want to think about the kind of far-reaching ramifications on the economy it'd have.
It's a nice dream, but I don't know how it'd play out in practice, and honestly, I doubt CCP would touch it with a 10 foot pole. Walking in Stations as a Social Hub: Business vs Pleasure in Incarna |

The gargantuan spike in trit prices would certainly have an interesting effect on the market. CCP: Not out to ruin your game, out to ruin their game. |
