I have just perused a few killmails of mining vessels that were suicide ganked this afternoon at Nakugard. I will not mention any names to protect the guilty parties but you know who you are.
It is no use complaining and threatening people in local after the event if you are directly to blame for your mining vessel having an obviously sub-standard fitting. Please read the following advice and take heed lest you lose more expensive ships:
1) Some systems may seem like good places to mine. They may have ice anomalies and good belts. This does not necessarily make them a good place to mine and Nakugard is one of these places. Don't mine at Nakugard.
2) If flying in a Retriever there is an argument to fly with max yield with a view to the increased profit made covering the inevitable losses. Considering this you should make up your own mind whether to fit a decent tank in a Retriever.
3) If flying a Mackinaw or Hulk you should obviously be fitting a reasonable tank while still trying to improve your yield with one or possibly two MLU's. Flying with three MLU's should not be attempted. *glares at 'deleted'*
4) Some modules should NOT be fitted in your mid slots to complement your tanking ability. They are:
Civilian Shield Booster Small Shield Booster Small Shield Extender.
Instead look to improve your resistances specifically the kinetic & thermal ones with resistance modules & invulnerability modules.
5) In the low slots you should have a Damage Control II if possible or one of the lower meta types if cpu will not allow this. The remaining slots should have MLU I or II in them if possible. Do NOT fit a nanofibre/speed/agility type module in one of your low slots. You will not be able to get away if a gank occurs.
6) Do NOT fit rigs that increase your cargo carrying ability. Instead maybe look to using rigs that will improve your tank further.
That's all for now folks. Please take heed of my advice lest the New Order come calling.

+1 for OP. Surely many, many victims will see this thread and take all these wonderful suggestions on board.

So, the idiots fitting all MLUs in the lows were http://eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=20334956 and http://eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=20332874. Mr. "I have a nanofiber that means I'm quick like aOHGODNO" is http://eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=20332548. None of them had any cargo extenders, though this guy ( http://eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=20332206) had a rig to increase CAPACITOR capacity.
No sense in changing the name to protect the guilty, OP. Name and shame. |

Just avoid 0.5 systems unless you have buddies to pod the guy for you. I've noticed gankers tend to have very shiny implants and since CONCORD ignores the plight of these poor implants, it falls to miners to liberate them. Save an implant, pod a ganker. |

Those are all good tips. But 'permit' tank is still the best tank. Send me 10mil isk for a New Order mining permit. Good for a whole year!
*puts on other hat*
as an owner of a minmatar POS, please don't gank Nak ice miners. The ice must flow... and flow cheaply. |

They do.
Many times the self destruct button is disguised as an internet link.
Netflix = Self destruct
Other times, self destruct can be attributed to other things. Reading books, sitting in the other room, ect.
Cockpits in mining ships must have self destruct buttons everywhere.... What an odd design choice! |

I tried desperately t try and fit a 10mn MWD on my fits above but alas no luck. The closest to the PG needed was about 140 (need 150) |

Of course not, though I don't think that's due to any skill on your part. You only target ships that you know can't fight back. All it takes to stop a gank is a nearby combat ship that seems to be piloted by a human. But that still doesn't change the fact that most gankers bling out their implant slots, and if people were smart they'd arrange an escort with the express purpose of podding any gankers. No matter what the gankers say, Strip Miners aren't challenging to tank, and no matter what the ganked says, gankers aren't hard to avoid or overcome. It's the dumb leading the dumb. "I'm a hardcore pvper, just look at all those solo kills against Hulls!" Or it's, "I'm an indy pilot, I shouldn't have to deal with this!" Neither one of those statements is true. |

dont be silly op.... we all know to mine you have to fit it purely for yield. then when you get ganked either cry like a little ***** in chat/mail to ganker or post on the forums demanding a change to game mechanics while also while crying like a little ***** |

Most of the time those 'escort ships' are as AFK as the miner they are pretending to protect.
Since I turned graphic settings to minimum (to minimize lag upon the loss of my ship), I have not lost a pod after a gank, except for once when I got cocky and tried to dock at Dodixie 9-20 while flashy red. Someone in a fast locking ship locked me and podded me in the ~2500ms between me landing on grid and docking.
Doesn't bother me though - like most gankers, I fly cheap pods that I do not mind losing. Think I lost five +3 stat implants and two 3% hardwirings. 80 million for a lesson in why I should be less cocky - that's a bargain.
As for people that gank on alts instead of their mains - they usually only use two 3% hardwirings, or a 3% and a 1%. First time they are hit, they might also have two +3 or +4 stat implants, after which they usually don't need any more training. So their pods are normally 50m first time, 20-30m after that.
As for your comments about the merits of ganking - the market PVP of AFK miners requires a military PVP response. It is that simple. Plus every highsec alt of a nullsec main that is driven away from highsec drives more conflict in the game. |
