Edited by: Atlanton Marcus on 10/02/2006 22:08:16 Right now I am running LvL 2 missions in 0.0 space and I trying to decide which route I should take. Eventually I would like to be able to rat in 0.0 space with ease, and do lvl 3-4 missions. Right now I am using the Amarr Punisher, to get my piloting skills up.
Any suggestions for a "ship path"?

I would go for a maller. With a good fitting it can do every lvl2 mission :)

I'm looking for a ship that can run lvl 3 and eventually 4 missions, and effectively rat in 0.0 space.
Can the Maller accomplish this?
Thanks

You stated "next ship", not "last ship I'll ever need". The other posters are correct, go for a decent cruiser next, as you work your skills up, etc. Or, I suppose you could go directly for a HAC, or an Apoc, but you'll be flying that Punisher for quite a while as your skills train.

The prophecy-class battlecruiser is a very study ship capable of handling 0.0, level 3/4 missions, and level 5/6/7 complexes. Meant for artillary (read: long range) damage and the resistance bonuses (combined with it's low slots) make it an excellent tank against focused-fire.
Look into eventually gaining the skills, and not just the minimum required, to pilot it. Should serve you well until battleship.

lvl 3 missions in a BC or an A/F, lvl 4 missions in nothing smaller than a battleship of at least 2 people.
the normal ship path is the following
Frigate -> Cruiser -> Battleship -> Assault Frigate -> Heavy Assault

Thank you very much for your replies...
Given that I am running lvl 2 missions at the moment, and I would like to earn more isk and lps than I currently am, the Maller seems like the best choice for lvl 3 missions...am I correct?

The maller or the omen, yes. Depends on your style of play. The omen is going to deliver devestating firepower, with the warfare philosophy of "the best defence is a overwhealming offense". The maller is going to deliver some incredibly tanking, with the warfare philosophy of "the best defence is to be as solid as a mountain".
Both are level 3 capable ships, but it's going to depend on which way you enjoy flying the most, and perhaps even what type of mission it is. Fly whichever you find more enjoyable

With a decent set up on the maller you can do most L3s. I wouldn't say all, I couln't when I used to use Maller for L3, but maybe you could squeze more out of it than I could. When I flew an L3 Maller it as directly from the punisher too.
Wouldn't have thought an omen could do L3s due to the ammount of damage the ship must take but I may be totally wrong. Omen certainly isn't a bad ship as subsequent PvP experience has taught me :D

For some Omen ideas, hop over to my ship thread. It's a design specifically meant for heavy damage directed at PvP and higher level missions. Linkage
It isn't invincible, but it certainly deals out some heavy damage. Note that the math on that thread isn't even including the drones or missile damage.

Cool...
Thanks a lot for the link and the info...
I will probably have to try both the Omen and Maller until I find one I like...then after a while I will probabably move to the Prophecy and from there to a Retribution, Apocalypse, or Armageddon.
