Yo, there is my idea: When u reach some level in standing within npc corporation u get a proprer rank thus allowing u to hire special npc mercenaries to work for you. They will be acting like drones but will be in a separate ships. Also new skills will be required. EX: U have 5.0 standing within federation navy so u can hire only mercs in frigates from fed navy. When u reach 7.0 u can hire up to cruisers, 9.0 u can hire battleships, 9.9 u can hire any ship. Those ships will be following you anywhere u go as long as u have contract with them. Their icons will be colored green. Based on skill u can hire 1, 2, 4, 6, 8 mercenaries simultaneously. They warp and jump whenever u go and they engage targets youre shooting at or as with drones has to be commanded which target to shoot at. This will make the ame more interresting for solo pilots (like me). Post here so this idea may evolve even further :) Radix

EvE is based around player created content. Whoring npc standings so you can get npc bots to shoot things for you does not fit into this vision.

Edited by: Radix Salvilines on 15/02/2006 18:00:43 if u dont want to have npc mercs no-one forces u to it... Its for those that like fleet commanding stuff like players that like games like homeworld. NPC merc could be prohibited while pvping if this is what scares u - missions only. Other conception is no mercenaries for hire but to have npc squad mates while doing missions. EX: Agent is offering a mission. U have t go to a deadspace complex with acceleration gate as an entrance. When u warp to acceleration gate there are already waiting for u npc ships deployed to help u. (why federation navy having so big fleet dont solve their problems by itself?? At least they can provide some help while doing missions - that is reasonible. Like in guildwars u can choose to do everything with other players or just hire henchmen). A menu will appear in overview window below drone commands to issue commands to your npc squadmates. Originally by: Deja Thoris EvE is based around player created content. Whoring npc standings so you can get npc bots to shoot things for you does not fit into this vision. ---> so what can u tell me about drones mate? They are my only weapon and they shoot everything for me :/ Besides in next expansion named "Kali" there is a small feature: "factional warfare Show your allegiance. Includes Ranking, Ranks and Medals." What can u tell me about carriers also? They have a cruiser-sized drones that shoot everything for u and your gang-mates... But i understand u dont know that playing an amarrian character as they use lasers not drones :) (no offense of course). Just want to make mission making more interresting. U can add mercenaries and raise the mission difficulty if u think it may unbalance the game - like having one more merc will result rats having more resistances. Its harder yet still more fun. This can be done also slowly by evolving npc mercs with each patch being released. Add now possibilty to have only one merc and see if it will work - if players will like it. Depending on community response this feature will be removed or evolved on. Radix :) ...Besides i think this is a thing that will be added sooner or later - im just sure on that...

if you can hire merc's, then PvP will revolve around who has the biggest bank account rather than skill or teamwork. And is thus an absolutely crap idea. k? ============== This is a sigO RLY? - Imaran I've only done 4 hours of Tools for 2D graphics, give me a few weeks and i'll be cool, really.

And is thus an absolutely crap idea. k? lol - like this was anything new, now :) If EVE was really driven by player content (at the moment it is more like it is being bogged down by player content...), we shouldn't have npc rats and agents, either. so much about consequence... If you'd prefer things as they are now, put it the way you mean it, don't bash the guy for suggesting stuff with fake arguments. As it is, we do have npcs at every corner, it's just that they are dumb zombies. I would like them to be an actual competition, and not just the pirates, but the corps, too, be they manufacturers or mercs. The problem, of course, is that the servers are not designed to handle that kind of npc activity. Imagine two alliances duking it out not just with their own ships but all the mercs they could afford, too - lag galore! Maybe one day, but not now...

Hmm... prehaps if limited to missions... would make sense for a npc agent to send backup with you... Non Nobis, Domine, Non Nobis, Sed Nomine Tuo Da Na Glorium

interesting, its what I liked (the only thing I liked) about star wars galaxies, that you could hire some NPC dude to follow you around and help you doing those missions. would love to see that happening in eve, maybe not for pvp (e.g. they wouldn't engage other players if you told them to (maybe they'd shoot you instead) so would only be good when dealing with NPC's), but maybe let them respond when you are aggressed, I mean they'd just be rats that dont shoot you, how hard is it to take out some cruiser rats :P make them not so uber, like you can only have 1-2 at a time, they'd be like supportive wingmen, or maybe 5 (+1 per level of the skill required). would be an interesting feature.. especially when Kali comes with factional warfare.. hire some Caldari mercs and go blast some Gallante NPC's =)

I'd accept something similar to this if concord is weakened. Concord just sucks. 0.5 piracy should not be easy, but it should be possible . Above that it should be directly next to impossible in the dictionary. Maybe one day we'll have factional warfare, so faction navies can exist in different strengths all the way up from 0.1 to 1.0 or something and not just some cruddy GM-led, RP corp you can join if you feel like it this morning. I don't think of it is pwning forces, just that little something extra as harrassment to keep you from going afk if you're where you don't belong and engaging those that do. Basically it boils down to nothing more than better npc spawn at gates but with inverse ordering. Very simply, friendly npcs should shoot or seek you out, so pirates get their own piratey hideouts where empire friendly npcers only venture in force. Treating conflict between same faction friendly groups is a pickle though, but I have some half baked ideas to get around it.

If we ever get those NPCs it will mean that: Major re-Coding of ALL of the mission. (making them harder than they are now) Major re-coding of CONCORD, making them more Uber, to prevent exploiting. Major re-coding of Sentries - because they will need to prevent exploiting. And god forbid if you could actually take them into gangs with other players and their NPCs and what not. Fleet battles are already a lagfest, now all we need a few hundered NPC' showing up. This has less to do with player driven content than with the fact that you will need to overhaul EVE as we know it. And, honestly, why do we want to turn it into another SWG?100 Mill Signature Contest I Support EVE Advertising Campaign Spank Me -JB

Everyone is focusing only on pvp :/ I really agree that having NPC helpers in pvp will ruin pvping more or less. From the begining my position was to forbid using mercs in pvp. NPC mercs are only to make missions more interresting and realistic. Again i recall the situation - Every empire has its own navy corp, in each such corp there are surely great fleets... So... why cant they give a hand by sending in backup? And also no mission-recoding is needed as mercenaries may be added only in new missions. Old ones may stay as they are now and doing them with mercs will be forbidden. Another way is to just reduce REWARD for those missions and allow mercenaries. Mercs will be mostly welcomed with joy for roleplayers and solo players. Again i say no mercs in pvp - only missions. Radix
