Going down to planets first means planets need to be solid objects. Speaking of which, everythingneeds to be a real solid object.
You can shoot right through an asteroid, yet you have to fly around it. Maneuvering a small ship in between asteroids does nothing for you tactically as missles, guns and lasers completely ignore asteroids. They also ignore gates, ships and other debris. Allow us to actually use the 3-dimensions of space (and the objects therein) to obtain a tactical advantage. I'm sorry to say, but tactics in this game are restricted to the relationship between 2 or more ships but completely discludes the environment in which they are flying.
If I place my battleship between 2 other ships, those ships should be unable to hit each other, instead they should hit my battleship. Line of Sight needs to be implemented to further allow for increasing battle tactics. Obtaining a lock is already limited by distance, it further needs to be limited by LoS. Thus, ships could actually hide in asteroid fields or behind planets/moons. Placing a huge ship between 2 smaller ships should break a lock as LoS has been broken. With the system we have now, ships can't techically "hide" anywhere as the overview gives us all a targeting version of god-mode.
Speaking of space (and the supposed vastness there of) the size of the universe could be cut by 99% because 95% of what goes on in this game happens at a stupid jump gate, 3% at an asteroid belt and 1% everywhere else. Why have all these massive distances between things when nothing happens there. Give us the ability to de-active our warp fields so that destinations aren't always a gate, planet, moon or asteroid. If I'm crossing a huge system I want to be able to drop out of warp at a point of my choosing. Give us a reason to have all this empty space beyond just making travel times last a long time (which is mostly negated with the proper bookmarks.)
Here's some questions for ya. Why are all the planets the same size? Why can't you see the moons of a planet from the planet? Most moons are actually rather close to their respective planets (at least within visual range) yet in EVE these moons seem to be out on their own. Lastly, why is my ship's hold only 400m3 yet when I drop 1 piece of Tritanium, the resulting cannister is 27,000m3? Where was I keeping the materials to encapsulate 27,000m3 in a frigate the size of a semi-truck?
