I was debating chucking this in Wormholes, but a more rounded viewpoint is likely to be more helpful I reckon.
So the question: Hybrid Components - Why aren't they a big thing?
I started looking at prices and volumes at Amarr, and found trading volumes basically zero in all cases. Jita fared better, there was at least a market there.
I am currently living in a WH, producing hybrid polymers, and was looking to see whether components would be profitable. Didn't want all the hassle of invention and all that at this stage, so was searching for good ideas to make more hybrid components as an easy exit point.
Seems to me that the majority of people producing t3 ships purchase the polymers rather than the components, and I wondered whether there was a simple reason for this, what I was missing.
All I could come up with is that most people who produce t3 ships produce all their materials in house, which jarrs a little with what I have heard in rumour in that there are various people doing various parts of t3 production as well as the big alliances in WHs doing all of it together.
Thoughts, comments and random tomatoes are all welcome. |

If I remember correctly, the t3 salvage to build the components is completely out of balance where none of the parts are really worth anything. Basically melted nano ribbons is the only item outside of polymers is what dictates t3 production. I don't think it's a matter of alliances and such builing all their own stuff that depressed the market (low demand for times) but rather the high supply of parts. Of course i have done much t3 as of late, it might be different.

You're probably right. I know of a couple ppl that purchase the most basic materials for T3 prod and do everything themselves. That's likely why there's not a large market. Either that or there's just not a large market for T3's overall. Rendering low demand for the components.
But I imagine what you said it correct. THere's many producers that build everything from scratch. It may be that the raw materials are smaller in volume than components...making it easier to move the stuff that way. Most will build their own components, same as most of the T2 manufacturers do. The skills required to build the components are a sub-set of the skills required to build the ships. Given that, and the very high markup on the components, people will build them rather than buying

Oh if you are just talking about components on the market, then yeah probably little movement since you can get the materials easily if you do all the other steps. Plus t3 isn't as high in demand as say t2 ammo, which does have movement on the components to build the due to demand. The raw materials are not as easy to get outside of the markets for solo or small groups of players like in whs. Maximze your Industry Potential! - Get EVE Isk per Hour! |
