I think that I am the sole PI'er in my system. I've looked but the people that were there a while ago all seem to have left.
Now I find that a micro-corp ( 2 man outfit) has taken over one of the CO's and may well take over the rest.
What to do?
I'm in a very small corps myself and we don't have the resources, training or inclination to war-dec the incumbents,we are industrialists /explorers, we could hire a mercenary corps to kill the POCO, but then what? Run it ourselves or stick with what we have got and train Custom Code Expertise to reduce the tax rate? Which is what we are doing anyway.
What's really sticking in my craw is giving ISK that I earned to a rentier who has done nothing for me in the past and will not do so in the future, how can they being just a micro-corp?
So do I swallow my independence and pay rent or do I somehow shift this corps out of my system. Because at the moment it IS my system.
Any thoughts would be welcome.
Thanks.

I would recommend, contacting the corp that is setting up the POCO's and ask them if they would be willing to give your corp a +10 Standing or +5 Standing so you can 'possibly' get lower taxes.
Other than that, your other option is to move systems to a lower taxed system.
But just contact the corp, and see if you can work something out :)

Sounds like this is your problem. If they own the POCOs and you're unwilling/unable to own POCOs, then you're pretty much stuck with using someone else's POCOs, either in the system you're in now, or in some other system with other planets, which will also have POCOs owned by other people who will happily take your isk.
Also, I don't where you get this notion that they haven't done anything for you. You can't really do PI without a POCO, thus by owning the POCO they permit you to do PI. Its your choice to stop doing PI or to continue doing PI. Why can't I delete this signature? |

Please read what I wrote. "...rentier who has done nothing for me in the past and will not do so in the future"
As I was happily doing PI before this corps parachuted into the system I do not see that raising the tax rate is beneficial to me in any way.
As far as I can see they are acting to get rent from me and doing nothing in return.
Just to let you know, we have discussed this and decided to speak to the POCO owners. If they are reasonable and give us a tax rate which makes economic sense than we have agreed to stay with the current situation. If not then we will either try and remove the POCO ourselves or hire someone to do it for us. We are not really interested in running a systems worth of POCOs but we will if it is in our best interest. It does mean that it will be a distraction to our main activities though. |

Do your PI in Low sec. My highest tax across 26 POCOs is 8%.
I've never had to say a word to any owners.

They're not obliged to do anything for you. However, they've put in the effort to establish their own POCO (after removing the NPC one, I take it?) and they are fully entitled to reap the rewards from it (ie, your ISK).
If you want the PI monopoly here, you're going to have to fight for it... conflict-driver working as intended! |

While IRL my politics also make me detest rentier capitalism i don't really find that carrying over that sort of attitude into a game is very helpful. I also have an IRL hatred of violence on any scale and yet happily play games where i shoot at people. EvE is a dystopian game largely because of the unbridled capitalism coupled with authoritarian violence (from corps, alliances, individuals and CONCORD). Most of eve becomes easier with friends and as an MMO it should penalise people that play as a single player game. Politics , alliances and batphones become vital tools. I am glad some of this has now spread to high sec. Your choices are: Knuckle under and pay the lowest rent you can. Find enough friends to drive them out and find the isk to replace the POCO's with your own. Find somewhere else to do PI. (lowsec is much lower tax and very safe if you research how first) Stop doing PI. adapt and survive. fail to adapt and decline. the choices are yours. Making contacts with other groups for mutual benefit is always a good plan in eve though and a source of new ways to play , new friends and greater depth/enjoyment. i wish you luck with whatever choice you make. here is a list of all the fiat currencies that didn't end up at zero value.....and here is a list of the places where a currency pegged to a real commodity has successfully co-existed with compound interest....-á Here is a physics professor explaining why sustainable growth isn't a thing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-QA2rkpBSY |

Isn't this a simple game theory / opportunity cost question?
A) Pay a few billion to remove their space trash. B) Wardec and have some serious fun, lower cost, lower chance of achieving your objective. C) Pay the rent. D) Move.
Each has a cost/reward based on probability of success. B is very low in cost and seems to me to suck measurably less than the other options. Even a 1-man corp (me) has had grand fun griefing the hell out of established industrialists who think that by planting a flag they've established Eminent Domain in a solar system. Ego is a pain.
People pay trillions of ISK to make market transactions, they pay taxes to NPCs, and that is fine.
The moment you have to still pay the same taxes but to a player, then it is "detrimental".
People cheer about the "sandbox", "player driven this", "player driven that" until they realise that this has consequences. "Perfect crimes do not exist, for to be a crime, it must be proven." "Make the body count unacceptable to ensure your own safety." "Basic rule of covert ops: let someone else do your dirty work." |

It isn't "I was here first, it's mine", it's "I'm more powerful than you are, everything is mine". ffs. There's nothing worse than an EVE player, generally considered to be top of the food chain in the MMO world, that cannot smacktalk with wit and coherency. |

In EVE, If you can't protect it, someone will take it.
Go shoot the poco every day until it's dead. Be relentless, never let up. 95% of the ships in EVE have guns. this is NOT a mining game, it's a PvP game. It's time you learned to shoot stuff. A 2 man corp,(probly 1 man and his alt) is your perfect learning opportunity. |

Thanks for all the various thoughts.
We tried to contact the smaller of the two corps running POCOs in the system. As they have set a fee of 1000000 ISK just to talk to them we have knocked that idea on the head and have been in contact with a merc corps who have agreed to take the POCOs out.
We are nearly ready to go. It's a distraction but sometimes you must take a stand.
We have been running backwards and forwards getting the stuff ready to drop in as replacement.
Just hope that we have got enough ammo laid by! |
