Very old info or one of many minor details the Devs have not got around to fixing.
I would like to click on planet info though and see stats about them like population and climate/terrain type and so on. ------

Edited by: Alexis DeTocqueville on 26/02/2006 00:11:43 According to the prime fiction, the reason planets don't play a bigger part in EVE Online is because you have to create sub-orbital craft tooled specifically for each planets atmosphere. Without a universal landing craft, the costs of planet-to-orbit movements skyrockets, meaning that planetary economies have grown up practically autonomous of space.
....Like most prime fiction, it's idiotic. Instead of creating that byzantine justification I wish they had just said "You can't because the game is about space". At some point you have to learn to declare when mechanics should trump continuity.

Actually, I think that would make a great complex or deadspace mission. With the planet providing a great background.

Some planets and moons are little else but mining or penol colonies, smart money is on both whereas others have a full ecosystem and a population of billions.
CCP might need someone to work on planets and moons exclusively to wove together the intricate net of relations bound to be there.
Remind me about The Maze.

i allways figured shuttles were our universal landing craft and could have their drives reconfigured on the fly for different planets.

I just think we should use Hawks to land. Their shields are almost completely impervious to thermal damage, so re-entry won't be any problem at all, even at a steep angle, and the Merlin hull is already pretty aerodynamic, so once they got into low atmosphere, they could deactivate the shields and basically just FLY around.
Of course, Gallenteans and Minmatars would be boned...Gallente ships have about as many aerodynamic surfaces as a turd, and Minmatar ships would tear themselves to pieces if they were subjected to aerodynamic drag. -------------------------------------[04:04:04] Tom Thumb > for a nut case you rawk

The cormorant is probably designed with planetary flight in mind. After all, its got some sort of wings on it, and landing lights on the bottom section. Would be a pain to make it keep from burning up though...

space shuttle doesnt burn up and it has no shields, so i imagine in a scifi world with shields and all reentry is easy as pie.

RRRRIIIGGGHHTTTT and i suppose volcanoes form themselves in geometric city like patterns with lines just like mega highways connecting each Cty.
Besides the info you see is out of date by a coupele years. -----------------------------------------------

sometimes. it's also not really designed to be shot up repeatedly, is it...
however, I'd *love* to see a lot more attention given to making some of the worlds come "alive". cloud formations scudding above ocean worlds, desert planets, iron oxide dust planets, industrial factory worlds, farms, penal colonies...
So much potential for interesting backgrounds.
I'd love to see/make the models, detailing some of those worlds, too

There's the issue of their drives. Activating what is essentially gigantic plasma furnaces less than a mile above the surface of a planet is bound to make governments uncomfortable.

This'd be an interesting addition to a patch, IMHO;
Say, on random planets, you have life. It's an early, prewarp stage of life. They see these things out flying around (Our ships), and then decided that they need to shoot them down because they don't understand that they might be friendly. The missles are accurate, but very weak and wouldn't harm a shuttle, but make for a very nice lightshow. Aura might say something along the lines of "There go the common folks" or something equally as witty. You can't shoot back because it would kill off all the planet's life, and just be bad form. It wouldn't do anything but be something funny in the game, and possibily cause some confusion during PvP near planets.
Just a thought anyway, I just came up with it as I was reading this thread.
