Can you imagine the nightmare it must be for the poor shmuck who gets to write up all the info for each planet+moon in EvE? There are what... thousands of star systems in EvE? Each system has atleast a dozen planets and/or moons (probably more)...
Makes my head hurt just thinking about it

Personally, I'd love to see planet skins become a little more detailed - it's be nice to see blue oceans and brown and green landmasses on planets which support life, possibly even cloud patterns.
Also, the gas giants were, frankly, done better prior to the Exodus changes. The stripe patterns and color differentials were greater, prior, and looked more realistic.
The biggest problem since Exodus is that most of the planets look pretty washed-out, and mostly grey-brown, with little to distinguish one from another aside from the possibility of added effects, such as city lights, glowing lava rivers, or planet-wide lightning storms. -Wrayeth

Edited by: Commander Lock on 26/02/2006 11:32:41 There are a many Earth-like planets in EVE, I've mainly found them in low sec systems, such as Intaki. And they shouldn't be common anyway. Out of 9 (or is it 10 now?) planets in our system, one is Earth-like.
Originally by: Icarion Peregrine Yes, more colourful and varied planets would be nice. But why does every other gas giant have a ring? It's cool and all, but I don't think they're actually all that common :) And just because a planet is blue and has nice clouds doesn't mean it's human-congruent. I mean, Neptune is blue and has clouds...
I believe Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus have rings, that's 3/4 gas giants.

On the topic of atmosperic (re)entry: that won't be a problem. From what I can tell even battleships with an AB can pull over one G so it would be easy to simply come to a relative stop with respect to a planet's axial spin and then gently descend through the atmosphere at safe speed. Sort of like an extreme case of VTOL. Though you probably wouldn't want to be under the drive plume of a million ton battleship...

I meant the visually spectacular Saturn-like kind, but yes, you are right, they do have rings. Maybe they are in fact quite common, we have little reference after all. |

And most solar systems won't have any earth-like planet at all. Anthropological principle: If our system had no earth-like planet, we couldn't observe that, because we wouldn't exist. So the 1 out of 9 in our system doesn't mean much. So we need a better reasoning and observe other solar systems get an idea, how common earth-like planets are. Surely depends also on the definition what you call earth-like. ___________ 'Only ships can be assembled, this is a Frigate.' |

However, if they make it to a body of water, they'll be absolutely golden! All they need is more duct tape and spit, some are bound to make it!

One of the things on the drawing board was a planet "colonisation" game. The basic one seemed to look a bit like railroad tycoon (or something) the planet would demand certain goods and supply other goods. I guess they would grow and develop, and you could control ones you owned to specialise in high tech stuff, or protein delicacies, or something.
If this was ever implemented we could have a trade network of unique and interesting planets just because players would make them. I prefered the basic planetary economy design to the complicated one (where you get to fly around on planets).

The atmosphere might be composed of inert gases, making life impossible.
You can see green continents on that planet...

Very old info or one of many minor details the Devs have not got around to fixing.
I would like to click on planet info though and see stats about them like population and climate/terrain type and so on.
I agree with this suggestion - even tho it was made by a Minmatar terrorist...

planets in 0.0 will be conolizeable and deliver specialised benefits and suplies and demand certain goods
