Hi all,
I was playing on my alt last night (thorax, railguns) on a level 2 mission where the rats use tracking disruption. My drones were fine but my hits were zero while I was being tackled. No surprise.
My drones eventually killed the tackler and I started hitting again but then I started missing every time and there was no tackle showing. I tried orbiting just outside optimal: zero hits. Then I tried kiting at optimal but still zero hits. So I went to bed.
My main uses missiles so I'm not too familiar with turret mechanics. I've done a couple of searches and it sounds like I need a tracking enhancer or computer with script but before I shell out does anyone have any tips and do you know what the rats were using that suddenly stopped me hitting but didn't show up as tackle? Was it some NPC percentage thing?
Cheers

You can add radius velocity (the one with radians per second unit) to your overview to compare it with your guns tracking.
Also keep in mind that after optimal+2*falloff you hit at 0.
If the target is moving fast it's better to move in the same direction instead of orbiting him or moving towards him. You can easily do this by watching him (alt-click) and double clicking in the direction he is heading (requires some camera orienting).
Other than that usual ways to improve range and tracking of your guns: proper ammo, skills, modules, implants. |

Tackle doesn't mean what you think it means.

Move away from it in a straight line and go out as far as your falloff will allow, if you still can't hit it, try longer range T1 ammo. You can also fit Tracking Enhancers, Tracking Computers, webs or Metastasis Adjusters to help with your tracking. Also, you could try downgrading to a smaller gun.

Unscripted tracking disruptors affect both range and tracking. I think the problem was likely that you were orbitting at your usual range. I.e 10km but due to t/d you could only hit 3km therefore no hits. |

This char only flies amarr ships currently so I deal with laser turrets. Sometimes after popping a few rat frigates of same type, I will get a different named frigate I won't be able to hit. I change from orbiting to travelling away from in a straight line, and suddenly I will begin to hit. And this will occur with no TD or other ewar on me. So, yeah, above advice from Riot Girl is good. The larger sig radius of larger ships means they generally won't be a problem if your within at least falloff range and gunnery skills are decent. Of course, once rat frigates get under your guns, you'll need your drones. |
