Hey guys! I've been playing EVE for about 5 days and I read that EVE revolves more around specializing instead of training anything and everything.
I currently don't have as much time as I used to when it comes to MMO's, and since I have to pick a route at some stage, I'm at a loss of what to pick. I could manage roughly 2 hours a day at best.
I was thinking of probably going for a T1 frig PvP skill progression, since it doesn't require too much money.
Does anyone have any suggestions of things I could do that could fit into my limited playtime? |

I would dabble in whatever you feel like. 2 hours per day is still a fair amount of time, so I wouldn't be too worried.
If you feel like you want to be a Frig PvP specialist, go for it.
So long as you're fine not PLEXing your account the sky is the limit in EVE. |

I think I would like to pay for EVE with PLEX at some stage and was thinking that was a decent way to do so. |

Okay. I see a weird thing here.
You want to PvP (which will cost ISK) You have limited time You want to pay with PLEX.
Those 3 dont go well together.
Pay with RL money and have fun playing If you want easy entry PvP in frigates have a look at FW and RvB. Want to have some chat in game? Need help to get into the game as a new player? Just join my channel: Crazy Dutch Guy |

I thought spoils from PvP might've been able to offset the costs xD
I apologize for being silly. PvP wasn't going to be my end all be all. Is there something I would be able to do that might allow me to PLEX for my sub at some stage? |

I apologize for being silly. PvP wasn't going to be my end all be all. Is there something I would be able to do that might allow me to PLEX for my sub at some stage? PvP is largely a negative-ISK activity. Most PvPers never expect their PvP ship to return to the hanger intact (if it does, that's a bonus).
Pretty much everything else in the game is geared towards feeding ship-on-ship violence in some way (mining, missioning, building, hauling, exploring, etc)... though there are many who try to feed PvP activities without actually engaging in it themselves so they can build up large amounts of ISK (and thus use PLEX for their accounts).
I will echo what J'Poll said... if you want to enjoy this game (rather than it be a chore) then just stick to the standard subscription and play however you feel like playing. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

I believe you've got it wrong. Eve rewards the generalist more often than it rewards the specialist.
This is true in income - you don't need specialization to get good passive incomes from trading and PI or other options, nor for mining, exploring, nor for missioning. The skill bonus are typically just not required, and the potential gain with that bonus typically isn't significant. It's also true in corporate/alliance warfare - T1 frigates are always useful for points, warp-to's, and scouting. T1 logi cruisers are always an excellent force multiplier. And it's common to see shifting doctrines with many potential niches.
You can get to lvl 3 with a skill(totaling, for example, a 15% bonus) within 10-15 hours. The remaining 10% bonus represented by lvl 4 and 5 can be gained in 9+ days. Not much comparative benefit per time investment.
I would suggest re-orienting yourself. By all means, if you know there's something you really like, specialize. But you should also spread your SP around broadly at lvl 2 or 3 at your earliest convenience in order to take advantage of the situations and opportunities that will come and go during the significant time it takes to specialize.
As for your main question, I'd suggest taking up passive and semi-passive money generators like PI, trading, or perhaps research. The experience is valuable, your offline time is more productive, and the money will give you flexibility.

A few methods of low-maintenance income for players with only a few hours, if that, to spare are from my experience PI & trading. PI can be either a heavy maintenance income or a low maintenance one, depending on how you run your factories, so maybe ask around in Science & Industry for a couple of good products/setups. You can make a lot of ISK through trading with either long term or short term ventures, but the topic is a little too complex to go into detail here. But those are my two picks if you want your character to still be productive if you only have a limited amount of in-game time. Hope it helps. |

Just keep in mind. Its a game, not a 2nd/3rd job.
So in the end the only important measurement is:
How much fun do I get from my time I play EVE?
As an example, I knew someone who valued ISK gaining above anything. Needless to say, he did leave EVE after less then 1 year of playing as his quest for more and more ISK income did make him go insane and made EVE a job instead of a game. I am quite a generalist. I make decent isk from trading and PI and some WH ratting . Most is from the PI in a WH. Currently i have a few billion isk in the bank. I also have gas mining skills and some other odd skills that i mostly don't use now since i didn't like it.
Eve is the best MMO for limited time commitment. Sometimes i fleet every night and lose lots of ships. This month my log in time has been perhaps 3-4 hours or less a week. Doesn't matter since my skills are still training. I don't need to grind XP points which is the single best feature of eve.
When your not logged on a lot you tend to use less ISK as well. So that works in your favour.
But the single most important thing i do, is only fly ships that i can afford to lose. Currently my income is about 600M isk a month, so t2 frigates like bombers, cruisers and even the odd battle cruiser is fine. But well fitted battle ships are a bit pricey since i can only afford to lose one a month. A T3 is out of the question really. My rule of thumb is ship cost should be about 1/10 to 1/5 of your total isk. Then a ship loss is no big deal.
I still have lots of fun flying t1 frigates. Rifters for the win! You really don't need to be flying billion isk space pixels to have fun.
But plexing an account is really the worst use of time. Paying for an account is cheaper than the plex, its a real good deal in terms of RL $$ to isk. I pay something like 35US for 3 months of game time. Thats pretty cheap really. |

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the responses. I'm discarding the idea of PLEXing my account.
I've decided to focus on PvP for the mean time. |

Good choice. I have very limited play time as well. The way I see it there really isn't time to waste on shooting at red crosses and defenseless space rocks. Buy plex! Sell it. Buy lots of cheap ships. Lose them. Repeat! |

Buy 1 month gametime + 1 PLEX, you can build a lots of T1 frigate meta3 frigate while you wait for T2 skills. With 600 million ISK, you can buy around 100 fitted T1 frigate, go to FW territory and PVP. I bet that is more ship than you can loose in one month, and it is a lot of fun. I done this all the time. I think like EVE is an arcade machine, you toss a coin (frigate), and try PVP withounot to loose it as long as you can. |

I'm in a similar position and my current plan is to set up a few PI to gain slow steady income, sell a PLEX for starting funds, and either frigate/destroyer solo FW or RvB (because PvP!). RvB sounds like a better option frankly (no faction hit and fleeting opportunities for when I do have time to do that).
So, I'm glad for advice here too :) |

join RvB!
you can pop in, join a fleet, and pvp for an hour and log off. although we use other ship hulls, we run a lot of frig fleets so it won't hit the wallet too hard. eve online original intro

How much action does RvB see outside of The Forge? I'm currently spending a lot of time pretty far from there and if anything I'm kind of wanting to explore more around the Amarr/Minmatar FW area for the time being, or out from Molden Heath. It seems like your main war systems are about 20-30 jumps from there, even if I base in Hek or Bei.
Of course, I could just ship a grip of frigates up there from time to time I guess :) |

RvB's main playground is in The Forge.
But it's not that hard to get supplies there if you join them.
With an alt that joined RvB a while back, I just sold all my assets in Amarr space, podded myself to RvB space and bought new stuff from the ISK in my wallet. Want to have some chat in game? Need help to get into the game as a new player? Just join my channel: Crazy Dutch Guy |

Have another character on your account set up for exploration. You can make a decent amount of ISK through exploration, then head into RvB to blow all your ISK up :) Day 0 advice for new players: Day 0 Advice for New Players |
