Can I add one too?
Clip the strings on which the ships fly.
Explanation: I just orbited a Raven with my Typhoon at 500m, and every second orbit or so, my ship spins wildly (and loses speed) to counter rotation direction. Just like it would be a pajonet on strings needing to twist back once in awhile. This orbit phenomen depends largely if you are orbiting "on the floor" (the tactical overlay plane) or not. If you are on the floor, the twisting back doesn't seem to occure.
This can be seen in various other situations too, sometimes almost in violent intensity when logging on in space and when the screen is clearing. Occasionally my ship spins like there's no tomorrow, and looks really comical...
Doesn't really prevent or gimp anything - it's just plain stupid like the autoleveling

Technically there is no reason that a ship couldnt fly sideways. Its not like in the earth where there is friction from the atmosphere. :-) -- Rells

I dunno, the fact its engines are in the back may hinder it.

Oh that would be nice to not have the 90 degree above your ship camera block.
That's called "gimbal lock". It's because they're using Euler angles rather than quaternions (or matrices) for the rotations. It's a rookie mistake.
I always thought that it was an intentional way to prevent users from getting vertigo.

All very good, useful and even necessary ajustments you posted there, Rells.
Except maybe the ecliptic alignment. Sure, space is three-dimensional and there is no floor, but ships scanners can scan where the ecliptic of the solar system is and align for it (at least optionally) to have a better orientation. (Ever played games like Decent? Even with auto-alignment you tend to get confused and even dizzy with no limits.)

can i add that the overview doesnt auto-re-sort every time you try to click on an item? cant count how many times i have targeted a can...
there is no good way. it you sort them by distance they are continously changing.
if you do it by name, the items with the same name switch positition exactly like johnson's law predicted (the most perjuditial way always)
the same if you sort them by icon, by speed, size, etc.

I use transversal all the time. Knowing you guns is vital in that case, but when you do, transversal is VERY effective. Someone wanted more info in local channel. That feature should not be included. Everything shouldn't be handed to you on a silver platter. Adding enemies to your buddy list should be enough. If its to spot spies in 0.0 right away, then you better find and confirm the targets alligence (sp?), all a part of what makes the game exciting.
But otherwise very good suggestions allaround.

I think that would be hard to implement, keeping sorted by name the same, when the system has to update all the time to add newcommers to the list. What it could do, is to make the client compare the new list with the old list, and any newcommers should be added to the buttom of the apporpiate place. Will still result in miss-targetting from time to time, but should keep the list steady if there are no changes. But only name and size are viable for this solution.

I would also like to see either a watermark of a pirate skull & xbones or wanted letters embedded in a pirates local picture once they have fully become pirates. I realise that people will say just check the bio ect,but this way it would be far quicker to identify them as soon as they enter local.

Edited by: Andrue on 01/03/2006 12:50:15 * Fix the auto zoom so that I don't immediately get a face full of whatever ship I'm flying when I undock.
* When a roid pops make all the lasers that were mining it switch off.
* Stop the incessant repeats of 'The asteroid is depleted' when I manually switch off the lasers that were on the popped rock.
* Fix the damn' sound! When I'm mining I can hear my lasers (just). When a rat starts shooting me the mining lasers go silent.
* Escrow should not default to opening on the most heavily populated page.
* Could we have scroll bars working properly please? Clicking on the scroll area should be page up/down not an absolute position.
* Some of my ships have engine flames when warping others don't. A little consistency would be good.
* When I approach a gate the 'Jump' icon appears soon as I'm in range. For stations I have to click the station to get the dock icon to appear.
* It'd be nice if the overview defaulted to showing the NPC rats instead of me having to manually add them as a result of wondering why my shields are being eaten when the overview shows all clear.
* Email - could we have an option for 'post as shown' instead of it automatically removing 'surplus' white space?
* When you paste something into chat the focus moves away from the input field. That's daft. -- (Battle hardened miner)

- can names appear in their cargo window - ore scanners have preset filters like the overview (or in an ideal world, ships with ore scanners can have an 'ore amount' column on their overview) - buddy list is replaced by 'friends' and 'enemies' and 'others' lists, each of which have their own colour 'light' in local - visible indication that you are being warp scrambled - come to that, visible indication of all other ECM effects? Maybe an ECM status display window option somewhere in the UI?
And an 'align with' button would indeed be awesome!

but i cant understand why while doing missions on a deadspace the rats keep jumping all around the overview. i mean, it is supposed to be an static system. there are 15 rats and me. that is all. i sort them by name. why in the world do they keep switching places? there are no newcomers, no nothing.

Camera rotations are quaternions, which I can tell from the declarations in the C++ code, and the way that camera pitch is intentionally clamped.

I love it when you talk dirty.
Other than that, none of this is possible to be in Blood, it's been frozen for quite a while, the hardware upgrades and before that ze bugz stopped it from being deployed. This is duly noted for next release.

I've found that that engine flames don't always appear when you warp from cloaked, or straight after undocking. However if you switch on an AB (or just double click a location to align first) then you get them. -- We are recruiting

Why the camera is intentionally clamped? Do you mean that some people will feel bad because the camera would see the ship upside down when doing a pitch of 180¦? ____________________________________ Free ISP users, read this if you have connections problems [b]I'm on Eris side! |

First Ovuer, I think this is a great list. I believe we must consider some of these changes. WEe have done this sorta request ever soo often.
Quote: Fixed the bug where ships would not recognize clicking on full speed indicator when exiting warp, also made the full speed and stop buttons bigger and look more like a button.
When I read this one I laughed my rear off. All I could see was a stop sign.
We really do need more options on the freaking overview. I would like folders. My gosh I have to have certian settings for travel with my gang mates without and more. I have about 15 settings. I need folders man.
We should be allowed to make adjustments to our overview settings in station.
We should be able to be a gang leader in station.
Stations should have a docking icon.
We should be able to adjust specific sounds ingame. Give me an equalizer also.
Make ships settle much slower like real slow. The less graphic interaction the better on my client.
The portriat icons in gang and corp should be like Alliance. Only show when they speak.

"Why the camera is intentionally clamped? Do you mean that some people will feel bad because the camera would see the ship upside down when doing a pitch of 180¦?"
It's easier, both to code and for the user to work with.
As it is now, the camera drone is very simple to operate -- up/down always moves the drone in north/south direction along surface of 'globe' surrounding the ship, and left/right always moves it west/east. You only have control for pitch and yaw of it, so to speak, and the roll control is not needed as camera always self-aligns with the horizontal 'plane'
If you allowed camera to change pitch past 90 degree, then there would either be sudden 180 degree roll motion past that point as the camera re-aligns itself to the plane (and your camera controls would suddenly flip) or you'd leave it up to the user and force them to manually roll the camera back to 'usual' position ... otherwise they'd be stuck with camera looking at the ship 'upside down'. And there is really no need to complicate the interface in such manner.
