Hey,
Yesterday I had issues with my launcher, it would refuse to update and spit out an Exception error. As a result it broke my launcher to the point it would not even open any more, forcing me to reinstall the whole game.
Reinstalling fixed this issue, however today I do not want to start playing with it again or I will probably have to reinstall it yet again >.>
Also, launching repair.exe is useless, it completed then gives me an error too... oh and it did not solve any issues.
The Exception Error: http://pastebin.com/VHx0jBzC
EDIT: I should really add, that I am running Windows 8 64bit (Crappy OS, Windows 7 here I come!) |

Manually reinstalled the launcher using the instructions here: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=3894280#post3894280
Started Patching again, hit 15% and then the same error occurs. Back to square 1. |

Can you do me a favour and check the file permission of the "manifest.dat" file? After that try deleting the manifest.dat file in your installation and then run the launcher again. If it gets stuck again we may need to look into that as well. Senior Programmer Team Special Circumstances Friend of Walking Avatars |

I deleted the file, it launches still, however the patch does not even get to 15% anymore. It instantly fails dumping another Exception Error out.

This should really have been something I could have tried earlier, but I just tethered my Mobile 3G Connection to the PC to see if it was an Router, Firewall or ISP issue, and it happily downloaded and installed the 15MB patch with no issues...
I will check on my end to see if something is being blocked that should not be.
Thanks for the help anyway and sorry about the inconvenience. |

If you can reach it but the server cannot find it, chances are that something is fiddling with the launcher connection (firewalls, anti virus software, etc.) Senior Programmer Team Special Circumstances Friend of Walking Avatars |

My patches to rubicon worked fine until yesterday with 1.0.5. Then I got the same exception error at about 43.5% of the way through on the Launcher. Fails. Rebooted several times, tried repair tool, nothing worked. Sent in petition and attached log file yesterday.
Today, same exception failure with the new patch 1.0.6. Sent in a this second exception log. Finally a hour of so ago, CCP replied with a message: reboot computer computer and try again, send log. Duh!! That's why I'm here hoping I can find a solution. Just a few weeks ago, I just subsribed to E ve for a whole year. I didn't pay to mess around with the launcher, if this is going to drag out - can I get my money back?
Anyone find a solution? |

I've just looked up your petition about this. While we are not sure what is causing the issue you are seeing, could you do me a favour and check the permissions on the file resLocalization.stuff in your EVE installation folder? It seems to fail reading that file for some reason. Note that we have an internal version that has a potential fix for this issue, and I'll see if we can deploy a new version of the launcher in the near future that includes said fix. Thanks CCP Aporia for looking at my petition. :)
The file resLocalization.stuff has full control i.e. all 'Allow' boxes checked and not grayed out, by Administrators(CED-PC\Administrators). I only have the one account I use on my standalone pc and it obviously had administrator control since I've been playing Eve for some time on it. |

OK, are you running any anti-virus software that might have gotten a recent update?

I was more wondering if said anti-virus software might interfere with the update process. (-: Senior Programmer Team Special Circumstances Friend of Walking Avatars |

Well if the Eve patch is badly coded, potentially anything on my computer could make the patch throw a fit. I'm using AVG free and no software update for a long time. |

AVG is known to cause issues with multiple programs, for instance Steam lists it as a program that may infer with Steam at https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9828-SFLZ-9289 (-: Senior Programmer Team Special Circumstances Friend of Walking Avatars |

Can't reach the site via my browser but I can successfully ping cdn1.eveonline.com via cmd and do a traceroute on the cdn1.eveonline.com. Turned off my Antivirus zonealarm and it works fine. Will have to look into it later but at least can go back to lanching straight from the .exe once it finishes patching. |

Same issue here with the last two Eve patches. I run ZoneAlarm and I had to turn it off to get the launcher to download and install the patch. Once downloaded I can restart ZoneAlarm, restart the launcher and everything is fine. |

Similar here, I run a Physical Device which acts as a firewall (PFSense) on my network, once that was disabled it all worked fine. I did not have a problem with it before. |

While not using PFSense I am using pf on a dedicated box, and have been for many years.
I haven't had any issues with the launcher or updates in general at all (well, except the server 'derp!' at the launcher initial launch).
But I've had, and debugged, similar issues for many years and many users ;)
In general, if you have issues with a (usually large(-ish)) download from a site while not having any similar issues reaching that site with tools like ping/traceroute/pingplotter or browsing small(-ish) stuff then it's a network issue somewhere between your client and the server.
Most likely related to traffic shaping, MTU or timing limits.
Stuff like VPNs or other tunnels, proxies (including 'live' virus/malware scanners), firewalls (both internal and external) and routers are the main suspects.
And that's after ruling out viruses and so called "Internet Accelerators".
If large downloads works from some sites but not from other, or if some types of download works but not other the suspicion falls heavily on a "traffic shaping" (a technology loved by ISPs and carriers but hated by users and content providers).
Traffic Shaping works (if/when it works) by profiling data streams and assigning data packets to different queues with different priorities. Intention being that 'interactive' traffic should be passed faster while 'bulk' traffic gets delayed, or in some cases blocked since it's decided (based on vague/random rules and most likely voodoo) to be "bad traffic".
The only known solution to such issues is to provide the content provider with comprehensive logs (adding stuff like traceroutes or pingplotter logs help). CCP Eterne: Silly player, ALL devs are evil. CCP Fozzie: When Veritas describes a programming challenge as "very hard" I tend to believe him.
