The way I address the issue is all in the wording. I say GÇ£We Keep our word once and if itGÇÖs givenGÇ¥. I require my guys to do the same. If my guys or myself break their words out of just being an idiot ( most common reason) or forgot they gave it (also legit). I require them to make restitution.
Example: We ransom a pod after a fight with the demand of a Hiaku in 30 seconds or less. Hiaku is provided and someone still pops them, ISK will be sent to the victim in the value of that pod.
Now, EVE is a sandbox and everyone will have their own interpretations on game play. We do our best to not impose this element of game play style on others. If other people break their words to us, so be it. We do not hold them to some standard of play they donGÇÖt wish to subscribe to. We simply take it as lesion learned and know for future reference that those guys donGÇÖt play like us, removing future opportunities off the table. No harm no foul.
In my opinion there are equal value to not keeping your word and keeping it. Neither one is or ever will be the correct way to play, thatGÇÖs what makes the game so interesting.

Well, if you have that cheddar ****, then popcorn will trump,
otherwise, pretzels are the classy meta-snack for our community.

one time we told a guy in w-space local that we had a carrier tackled in the hole next door and needed help killing it. turns out it was Hard Knock's wormhole and there was no carrier.

Holding your word is a god send for both sides and in the end, feels good man. 1v1 at the sun in uneven situations and both get their joy out of it while still killing something. (poor blue balled pvp'ers from farmers) |

As part of a corp who has burned down someone's WH because they failed to honor a pod ransom that one of our members paid... I'd say keeping your word is the smart thing to do. |
