Edited by: Grainsalt on 04/03/2006 22:17:31 Good job on the server upgrades, good job even on the new blood patch, I know how difficult server upgrades can be even when it is only a small financial system.
So I would like to counter those dissenting voices over the past few days and actually say THANK YOU for the new stuff and the new servers.
It is nice to see that my and everyone else's money isn't just being farmed off to some off shore account someweher and you actually want to improve our gaming experience.. Whether that causes short term pain or not..
In the end you are doing a great job.. THANK YOU!
I hope at least some of this community (AND yes we are a good community despite the RP bollo*) feal the same.

Agreed
Keep on it CCP. To date I've been favorably impressed with your performance, human flaws and all.

im not so impressed the currend trend i see of ccp atm is
1) limit the game play to decrease lag (i.e. drone changes etc) 2) keep on promising everything will be ok after this new *fancy toy* is installed (first it was new hdd, then new hard ware, now new sql server) smells of staling tactics to me each patch i get less and less impressed with ccp

While I don't consider the current situation exactly enjoyable, it's not as if something of a similar scale would have not happened before... It'll pass, eventually...
But I DO like what I see here, few of the CCP staff giving better description what are they wrestling with, and atleast for me it shows dedication and interest in the customer relations. That alone carries far with me, anyways.

Yes CCP has been doing a great job. Even though this game seems to not work over a wireless network. I played WoW and every patch and repair day caused me one hell of a problem. This being CCP's only game I expect that they will keep up the good work. The downtime at 3-4 am in my area is cool, so I don't have to miss any game time. I do also like the skill system, it means I don't have to play for 11h straite to gain a level. Keep up the good work.

Lets see here, good job is right, I think this will really help EVE once everything is ironed out and works fine!
But, small financial system? Sure they aren't as large as other MMOs but just recently it has been said there are over 100k active subscribers.
100,000 x $15USD = $1,500,000USD (this isnt ISK :P)
Now divide that by ISP costs, server maintenance, and employee payments and you get some number which I have no idea what it would be, but I cannot see how they are hard up for money.

Frankly, I can't understand how some players think testing with a server that has 200 people on it is going to put the same strain on the system as a server with 20,000. In this case, it's obvious that the memory leak was never a problem on the test server because there weren't enough people playing for it to become an issue.
And, if the devs were unaware of the problem, how could they fix it before it goes live? Herein lies the problem with ALL MMOs on patch day - the test servers never have the same load as the live servers. It's nothing new, so people need to just chill, kick back, and watch TV, read a book, play Unreal Tournament or Battlefield 2, or just generally do someting else while the devs work on the problem. -Wrayeth
