It doesn't sound like he was suspended for kissing her per say, but because he had other issues that all snowballed until this was the straw that broke the camels back. Most schools have a policy if you touch somebody that makes you feel uncomfy, then that is against the rules. He was told not to kiss the same girl before.
The News Headline really isn't indicative of the entire story, which should be taken into account. It's a misleading attention grabber designed to make you guffaw at the lack of common sense, and knowing most people won't read the whole story. Great for clicks, poor for knowledge. |

Ok, seriously guys. The kid probably watched any number of disney flicks where the prince/noble/etc kisses the princess/maiden/damnsel on the hand. I'm *pretty sure* the SIX year old kid wasn't just trying to get his game on. Mostly because his game is likely Angry Birds on Daddy's iPhone.

true thre's no comment from teh girl, the only comment about the girl being "I like her and she likes me" There is no comment from the girl or her parents, so I assume the "we like each other" part is correct, then how is that harrasment? Whos being made uncomfortable here?
he's been punished for other problems in school(no mention what) including "rough housing", I admit I am not sure what that means(playing chase, shoving another kid harder then intended in the heat of the game resulting in a scraped knee?) but I am also not sure if that is something that deserves punishment.
Either the story is twisted and just poor journalism, or it is more like what seems to be the rage on tv, all sorts of violence is allright but god forbids you show affection or love on tv |

Along the same lines, the town my family used to live in has banned balls (soccer balls, basketballs, etc.) during recess. Too many injuries. And tag can only be played if a teacher supervises. I have no idea what kids are supposed to do during recess now. Play with their iPhones I guess.
(Also sort of related, this memo from my company to all employees about the upcoming Christmas party: Involvements- [Company name] does not hold parties with the hopeful net result of a harassment complaint. Behavior while at the party should mirror with that which is acceptable in the workplace under our harassment policies. Hmm, what did I miss at last year's party? ). |

bad journalism, I agreed, thing is, this IS in line with similar stories I hear more and more, so in this case suspension might be just, thena gian it might not be. Another example that I hear a lot happening on schools over here.
Recess, teachers all sitting inside drinking coffee. Kid a hits kid b. Kid b hits back. Kid a cries. Teacher sees kid a crying, asks what happened. "he hit me". teacher asks kid b if it is true. "He hit me first!" "That is no excuse, if he hits you you should come see me. You have detention" and nothing gets done with kid a cause he should receive pity for being hit.
Thing is, if kid b went to teacher before, teacher off course didnt see anything, at best kid a get's a "bad boy, you shouldnt hit others" scolding. If kid b doesnt do anything he gets beat up every day, if he goes to the teacher he gets beat up maybe eevry other day. if he hits back he gets detention.
this is something I hear a LOT, and article does fit with this(apart that happened over seas) |

So...they've dropped the "sexual harassment" charge on the 6 YO.
But the issue is indeed, this boy has been out of control in pursuit of this poor girl, he has been told not to have anything to do with her multiple times. He has also been in trouble for a variety of other issues.
What we have is a problem child with potentially latent anti-social tendencies, and a probable learning disability. There really is not much to do except to try him in a more disciplined, specialized environment. He does indeed keep doing the same thing over and over....and once he is 12, this is going to start leading to rather big trouble.
But indeed, slapping "sexual harrassment" on him is idiotic, as the poor child does not even know what sex is (see article.....he is now pestering his mother with"questions").

When I was in grade school we used to run around in packs. Single out and separate specific girls from their herd and hold them down on the ground and kiss them. This wasn't even considered wrong at the time. No complaints to teachers or parents and they would get their revenge using other means that generally left us embarrassed or some such in class.
Children had their own social structure completely independent from any authority figure.
That was back in the 70's though where kids actually dealt with their own issues without help. It was the same way with fighting. If you were getting chased or picked on the teachers would simply tell you to go back outside and deal with it on your own.
Pretty sure we would be sent straight to some sort of special school these days.... or at least some sort of 'program'.

Absolutely none of this holds true for my school year experiences in rural Arkansas in the 70's at all. None of that went on, nor would it have been allowed.
The draconian measures were much steeper though in high school in Texas, where if the "drug dogs" sniffed out even one ancient beer bottle cap hidden underneath the foot-mat of your car parked in the school lot, that was probably not even yours, meant absolute automatic expulsion.
There just does not seem to be much middle ground.

I am at a loss for words here
I can remember back a few months ago a similarly aged male student grabbed my 15 year old cousin's ass in school and she turned around and slapped him one. She was the one who got in trouble for "bullying" because she hit him. Never mind the fact male student who basically committed a minor version of sexual assault.

I am at a loss for words here I can remember back a few months ago a similarly aged male student grabbed my 15 year old cousin's ass in school and she turned around and slapped him one. She was the one who got in trouble for "bullying" because she hit him. Never mind the fact male student who basically committed a minor version of sexual assault. The day is fast approaching when we will all need to walk around in Zorbs.
Zorbs are sweet!
Unwise to go skiing in one though - Oh dear lord

here it means using more physical force than is necessary whilst 'playing' I grew up playing british bulldog and cuts, bruises, sprains and the occasional broken bone weren't all that uncommon
kids today are pampered and coddled way too much
