Was wondering about the ferox. Alot of people tell me to put heavy launchers on it. Was wondering should I get heavy launchers or go for the Hybrid turret Bonus optimal range.
I'm not trying to tank sentries this is more of a Solo gank people who ratting or Miners stuff like that.
Hvy launchers or Rails if my main concern.
And if you can put some advice on the Med's and Low's that be nice too I already know I need the 2 medium nos :).

5 missiles 2 nos
20k scram web afterburner large extender medium shield booster
Pdus or bcu's (or wcs?!?!)
Your tactic here will be get as close as possible and nos him to break his tank and finish him with missiles *Dont forget your five drones!!)

The Rox is my choice of ship, it's a good all rounder.
Highs: 5 x Heavy launchers 2 x 250mm rails (Iridium ammo for extra range)
Meds: 10MN Microwarp 1 x Med Shield booster 1 x Invul field 1 x Warp Disrupter (20km) 1 x Med shield Extenders
Lows 1 x BCS (Ballistic Control System) 3 x PDU's
And then throw in a few drones. This has work quite well for me, until last night when I had to fight back against a Scorp and a Interdictor, that didn't work so well.

Medium booster and medium extender? You must have about half your grid and cpu left.
Highs: 5 heavy launchers, 2 medium nos meds : 20km scram, 1 large extender, 1 invul field, then mix and match the remaining 2 depending on the situation (eg,, large shield booster, web, an extra large extender, jamming, sensor booster etc) Lows : 3 damage mods and a pdu or if you can spare one, a decent damage control.
You want as many damage mods as you can to get your launcher rof as low as possible. I usually fly with no shield booster but then my shield and cap skills are maxed and BC is at 4. Train battlecruisers up and make use of the extra 25% shield resistances.
I can setup my ferox with a decent damage control to have 8000 shield, 70-80% shield resistances, 2 damage mods and a scram. Hell with a very good damage control you'll get 50-70% resistances on your armour and 50-60% resistances on your 3000+ hull. That will outank many a battleship setup aslong as you do the damage.
The above is an expensive loss though as decent damage controls cost alot. ;-)
Try various setups out, but stick with the 5 heavy launchers, 2 medium nos and as many damage mods as possible.
edit: Oh yeah, and don't pirate it's bad!!

I'd actually suggest you went the other way and build a BlasteRox. It pwns <12km.

I was about to suggest the same thing. Remeber to use your drones for support and not DPS. Tracking disrupter, damping or webbing drones go a long way.

Why do you have a MWD, and medium shield tanking stuff on there, with a poor bonus to your EM resistance?
5 Heavy Launchers 2 med Nos
tech 2 AB 2 x Tech2 Large Extenders (or 1 for pvp) EM hardener, active. 20km scrammer large shield booster
Local Hull Nanofiber 2 x PDS 1 x BCS

Edited by: Avon on 08/03/2006 11:08:56 The Ferox is almost the perfect solo pirate ship. It is certainly the modern replacement for the previous solo pirate ship of choice, the Blackbird. (Ah, those were the days).

Hmmmm lots of people seem to like the split setup, try both is my suggestion, just remember 250's are completely hopeless against smaller ships though.
I think the extra 2 rails make little difference and 2 medium nos will do far more damage.
Oh yeah and mae use of your 5 small drones they do make a big difference.

I hate Ferox's. (Is it apostrophe "s" or "s" apostrophe?)
My first PvP involved a very large Ferox dishing out some serious bumlove on my Caracal, which I had not the skills to undock safely, let alone fly. I also refused to pay the ransom, foolishly believeing CONCORD would not allow this injustice.
I was wrong obviously as I was in 0.2, and very promptly ended up in my clone.
Any time I see one now I hit warp....I think that first one left me mentaly scarred. But I'll be back.....oh yes I will....
/me shakes fist at Ferox class Battlecruisers in general.

Anyone else got any comments or suggestions or advice of any sort I am trying to learn the most possible setups for ferox's.
Also I might be Duoing with another ferox who is a close friend of mine and suggestions on that subject as well will be appreciated.

scrambler is 20km, launcher is probably close to that too, why bother with a nos and going under 10km ?

Well I was think Kahor about after I get them to ransoming or if small targets get closer to me then it be good to use. And I dont know which drones I should get.
If anyone help me with what drones will be good to get it be helpful.

Neither. In this case, "Feroxes" would be appropriate. Apostrophes are not used for plural nouns.

Cuss under 10k you can web them so smaller targets (t2 frigs for example) cant get away. and NoS would be another reason to go under 10km :)

I have to be honest, my Brutix would probably take on most of the Ferox setups and win handily. You have to remember that tanking is king in very small battles, and a lot of these setups I'm seeing just aren't carrying enough tank to outlast someone who's really properly tanked. A smart pilot will be carrying counters to NOS these days. The only ones I've seen that could really give me trouble are the ones E Phoenix and/or Welsh Wizard posted - a good Brutix (or Cyclone!) pilot would tear through the rest of these setups before a Ferox pilot could blink. -------------- What good are actions if there's no one to tell the tale afterward?

This is just a setup...not ment for pirating, but this one works fine.....
High. Heawy launchers 2 guns
Med. 1 shield recharger TC2 and 3 large shield extenders TC2 the last slot you choose i normaly go with an em hardener
low slots 4 shield power relays
drones (I use ew drones when hmmmm pvp ;) )
This gives a decent damdege output, a werry nice passive tank (shield recharge rate) and with the drones its werry fun.....remember FOF`s just in case
my 2 cents

Reaplce the armour plating with a Damage Control, or even a magnetic stabiliser.

Yeah, replace the armor with just about anything. I'm partial to damage controls and/or ballistic controls there myself.

I'm sure it could be done, though I think a Brutix would be much better owing to its natural preference for close-range fighting.

I was Minning the other day in my Cyclone when a very poorly set up Ferox attacked me. This was it's setup. Yes, I got the kill mail.
2x Assult, 3x Heavy, 1 Small Nos, 1 Small Hybird gun L SB, web, scram, L Extender, Afterburner 2 BCU1, ???, ???
When he attacked me I thought I was dead, but for some reason my shields never got below 50 %. :)

Thats nothing moody... Me and a m8 jumped on a ferox who was using 1 torp in highs. Later he argued that his 1 torp outdamaged 5 heavys. I just went LOl>.< ---------------------------
