so yeah, feel free to tear it apart, not even getting in depth with it, just got bored so i decided to post.
How about, at least in null, possibly low, all you can see with local is the player count (except alliance/corp members who WILL appear at all times), NOT counting cloaks, until someone talks. however, we get a new probe similar to the old moon-mining probe in function, that you can script for going out a certain AU in distance before stopping, and all players who pass through its area of affect (maybe a couple AU) get immediately added to local (name and ship they are in) whether they are cloaked or not.
prolly needs a shitton of tweaks because obviously it was a half-baked idea, but i was bored and thought it sounded interesting.
even gives the babies a way to "estimate" the location of a cloaky, albeit to a very large area. |

I like it, but a cloaked ship should remain hidden unless it chooses to decloak otherwise you could just plaster the system with probes and warp to a cloaked ship which are highly vulnerable without a cloak. Dumbing down of Eve Online will result in it's destruction... |

it would just say "hey, somewhere in this 1-5 au sphere you randomly chose, there is a cloaked ship", so in other words, wouldnt actually do ****, while still throwing a bone to the cowards who cant stand the thought of not knowing where a supposedly AFk enemy is |

There's a 200+ paged rant about this, surely including what terrible idea you just sprayed into this topic. I am the Zodiac, I am the stars, You are the sorceress, my priestess of Mars, Queen of the night, swathed in satin black, Your ivory flesh upon my torture rack. |

yes it is still a terrible idea, but not something that would fit in in that 200 page rant |

If these probes of yours don't decloak anything or let you warp to it and they only say "something of some kind is somewhere in this area of no less than 1AU" I don't see how it's a big problem for anyone.
It's not like people don't already know that you're somewhere with the current system. |

It's not like people don't already know that you're somewhere with the current system. the reason it was a fun/stupid idea was this woudl replace local.
go into a system, outside of corp/alliance members, all you know is there are X people out in system, after that you have to probe to find out what ship/names are out there.
it would be boring, repetitive, tedious, and most of all very unlikely to ever happen. |

So basically it would be a lot like playing EVE.
Something that 300,000+ people do rather frequently, and have done for years.
