Been playing for quie some time now, and finnaly upgraded to a fairly decent BS.
Been ahmmering it out for the last few months in 0.4 - 0.1 and I think i'm ready to take that step into 0.0
Are there any 0.0 space areas 'safer' near metropolis than others? I've heard of some systems basicall 'off limits' to non members of specific corps, but surley not ALL 0.0 is under this sort of restriction.
Just want to try my hand at some 0.0 ratting at first.
Any help appreciated.

Edited by: Dark Shikari on 10/03/2006 11:07:30 If you just got your first BS, I would highly recommend against taking that BS into 0.0 without the support of an alliance or the like, simply because you will lose it .
Nothing to do with who claims the space--you will simply lose it, I can nearly guarantee you that
It takes a bit of time to get used to staying alive out there.

Edited by: Preliator on 10/03/2006 11:13:15 It'll be pretty hard to survive solo in 0.0, especially if you have just got your BS. Best thing to do would be to join a corp with control of an area of 0.0, or that has an alliance that has some control in 0.0.
But at least it isn't as bad as what I did. 2 weeks into the game, decided to travel deep into 0.0....in an ibis! Crazy thing is I survived!

yeah, leave the BS at home and grab a rifter for a trip to 0.0. Then try and make friends with the locals.

1. you use a jumpgate, and you assume everyone is hostile
2. 0.0 space close to empire is generally really crap, whereas deep 0.0 space contains rarer ores. You can see the true sec status here. The closer the system is to -1.0, the better the ores / npc's

Rofl, NPC's don't sell anything in 0.0 but some drugs and trade goods. Tbh, it's time CCP phases them out fo low sec too, and eventually high sec.
That's the challenge of 0.0 you see, either setting up friendships and contacts to amke deals with and provide for yourself, or set up shop somewhere in an npc station and produce what you need from refined loot or mined ore.
As to where to enter. Where's metropolis again ? Is that like north or south ?
In the north, I'd try entering cloud ring and pure blind through the low traffic chokes. That's NOT EC-P and PF- or P3E. Most others are traversible if you take care and have a good look before trying.
In the south, avoid HED-GP and A2V6, since the former leads to the most hostile region of eve and the latter leads nowhere but straight into Delve or Querious, both relatively densely populated and defended 0.0 regions.
But all in all I'd wait a bit. Your first BS makes you feel all strong and so on, I know. But BS are the least favourabel ships to be lfying in 0.0 space actually, and without experience or friends...well, it can turn out dissapointing.

A2 (backdoor to Q iirc) isn't that bad in my experience, and the trip through Delve/Q towards PB/Stain has been relatively quiet the couple of times I've went that way.

Here are some good pointers for 0.0 NPC hunting in a battleship.
System
Allways use a system that the autopilot DOESNT take you thru an example is 54-MFG, its 2 jumps from Eurgrana (0.4) and autopilot doesnt take people thru 54-MFG so its quiet apart from NPCers usually.
Bookmarks
Before you take a battleship into 0.0 makesure you have insta jumps for EVERY system you will be going thru, these need to include insta jumps from multiple directions and multiple safespots in each system (at lest 3, as far from each other as possible)
Scouting
When you have the instas setup and are ready to move out ALWAYS use a scout (even with instas you are VERY vulnerable in a big fat battleship)
You could get a friend to scout or setup a trial account and scout it yourself with both the trial and main character running at sane time.
Ammo / Loot
A nice thing todo is before you set out in the battleship take a hauler with giant secure container and anchor it at a safespot (dont use the can location as a safe spot) to use for loot storage and ammo refills.
When in 0.0 ALWAYS watch local, If ANY unknown player enters local go IMMIDIATLEY to safespot (you could be only seconds from being scrambled/killed)
If you follow these points the chances are you will come to no harm, but, as always, incase something does go wrong make sure you are fully insured.
have fun

Its generally not practical to NPC in claimed space unless there are NPC stations there. There's just nowhere to resupply.

just NPC a couple of jumps from empire, sure the spawns are not as good but you should be able to find a dual 1.4mill spawn atleast. -------------------------------------------------- PLACEBO

Would there we profit in trading ammo in those sectors? Meaning I transport ammo to station in low security sector and put up a sell order?
I've done a little Rum running in .1 sectors.

Not in general, people produce it in place since it sues so little resources.

A2 isn't bad no in terms of being camped, but it leads nowhere but Delve and Querious, both regions held by alliances with the tendency to go after neutrals quite vigorously. Also both are quite densely inhabited compared to some other regions. Once you get past Delve only stain is a possible destination in which a solo hunter can operate easily, due to npc stations. Stian wouldn't be a bad choice for someone with some experience, but for a new guy it's a bit far from empire I'd say, and the routes to it aren't the easiest in Eve to travel either.
Using the npc stations around Pure Blind might be easier, or those in Geminate, Curse or Outer Ring.

I'd be wiiling to run as an escort for you sometime. We Brutors must stick together. Perhaps I'll have some trading to do in the area you want to go.

or you fly amarr ships seems to be a huge advantage you could stay longer than anyone else in hostile space

*Nods* .. Providense might be ok as well. I think CVA let neutrals live in their outpost there.

solo 0.0 ratting guide -
1. take a fast frigate into 0.0 and scout to a desired quiet backwater. make bookmarks to and from the area you choose.
2. take a hauler with 2 giant cans filled with ammo to desired location and ancjor at a safe spot.
3. take bs to location, grab ammo from cans and replace with loot.
4. when cans filled with nice loot use an excequer or similar cargo ship with wcs to bring valuable loot back to empire. make it fast strong and stab it up.
